Monero have great features comparable to bitcoin.

how does it scale?

It has some advantages over bitcoin.  Notably adaptive block size.

On the other hand the privacy does make for a larger block chain.

The change in memory usage (Linux 64-bit) from Monero release 10.1 to 10.2 is just impressive (had some downtime in between the update):

Wow. That is really impressive. I havent checked how much ram gets eaten on windoze but I can bet its not less than 3gb. Theres still an uncertainty with enormous ram consumption and cpu load during sync, and this is why I never fully synced the daemon. The frustration of waiting problem.

This is a good explanation of some of the work that went into this:

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/3707/wolfram-warptangent-point-release-10-2-1-performance-improvements

Note that if your daemon if using too much RAM during sync, you can use: --block-sync-size 100 (the default is 200, you can use higher or lower values). This is the amount of blocks downloaded/added at once.

It is very straightforward to bet on this. One simply takes a long or short position of Monero.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

But you don't get the pleasure of collecting from the one who was wrong that way. Smiley

And my current long looks pretty ugly ATM. forgetting that extra zero cost me a little Cheesy

I just got into XMR an I really like it. Running the full node here. Transactions went very fast, just a couple of minutes.

I also believe that we have a very good entry-price-level at the moment to buy some  Smiley

Was wondering if someone could help. I just downloaded the latest version. I'm trying to run (Windows 64bit) monerod.exe. It opens up then closes immediately. Sometimes it opens up but just hangs there. Any suggestions?

Run it from the command prompt, so you can actually see the error message:

- click start, type cmd, open program cmd.exe
- navigate to your Monero folder and run monerod.exe

Quick Update - Not getting any errors... opens, then abruptly closes. Any clues? Re-downloading the files produces the same results. Restarting my computer also doesn't help.
Any other tricks?

Maybe you downloaded the 64bit version but you have a 32bit OS?

^ Thanks for sharing.

However you are in the Monero sub-forum, focused on security and privacy: nobody is going to click that indirect link (at least I don't).

- You can figure out what will happen, not when /Warren Buffett
- Pay any Bitcoin address privately with a little help of Monero.
