Does anyone know if there are any other cryptonote currencies ahead of or near monero in capitalization?
There are no other cryptonote-based coins in the top 100 on coinmarketcap besides XMR and BCN. SDC uses a cryptonote-based design for their anonymous tokens, which is a bit different in terms of coin design and doesn't share code but the cryptography is almost identical. They call it "zero knowledge solution" though.

Miners will earn only transaction fees. Not really the right thread though.

Use this command line parameter "--restore-deterministic-wallet" with simplewallet. In a different folder or computer restore your original wallet from the old seed words which you hopefully wrote down when you created the original wallet. ****Posted on Reddit as well****
Created a simple wallet about 6 months back and exchanged some bits for monero on Mintpal. I withdrew from Mintpal to the wallet I created. I recently updated home brew on my Mac and fixed some library links, entered my simple wallet name and password and up pops my public key with a zero balance. The seed is different though, which makes me think I may be ok just lost in translation on my part. Any tips on what I should do at this point? Thanks in advance.
Please pardon my ignorance but how do you restore? All I see is the option to type in an existing wallet name and passphrase or "one will be created for you." Two more questions: 1. How do you use the command line parameter? when opening simple wallet the first thing it asks for is the wallet name. After that it asked for the password. How can I get to the command line parameter from without simple wallet? 2. Should spaces be used between the 24 seed words? Thanks

Thanks You usually type "simplewallet" to start the simplewallet program, but to restore from the seed words, you type: "simplewallet --restore-deterministic-wallet" (don't include the quotation marks). You will be prompted to enter the seed words. Enter them in the correct order with spaces between words.

Thank you I have been opening the simplewallet application from the app data>roaming>bitmonero folder Are you telling me to start it with the windows command line instead? When I use the Windows command prompt and type "simplewallet" it tells me "simplewallet is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" I do not have much experience with command line prompts. Please include the basic steps that you assume I already know starting from the beginning after logging onto windows. Thanks!

If you get this error, then you're not in the same folder as where your simplewallet binary is. If you know what folder simplewallet is in, you can highlight folder and shift+right click, and select open command window here. Your other option is to make a shortcut of simplewallet.exe, and the right click and select properties, and in properties in the target field, add " --restore-deterministic-wallet" after simplewallet.exe, then run the shortcut.

What are some marketplaces that accept monero? Supposedly you are working with i2p. There are sites accepting XMR now? I dont know how to use i2p yet so havent checked.
There are very few sites accepting XMR. Other than exchanges https://www.cryptocoins-dice.com/ is the only one I know about. i2p is not integrated yet. Now physical Moneros and Bitcoins can be also purchased for XMR at: https://cryptonic.net/product/order/2/Those look great!

I can get simple wallet to start but instead of asking for my seed words it is still asking for my wallet name first. When I enter my wallet name it closes after saying something about the wallet name already existing and it closing to avoid overwriting it I even created a bat file in the proper folder with simplewallet --restore-deterministic-wallet as described here: https://monerotalk.org/t/bounty-create-a-useful-tutorial-on-how-to-setup-monero-closed/13/8For restoring your wallet launch simplewallet with this argument: --restore-deterministic-wallet Create a restore.bat file in your wallet folder with the following cmd inside: simplewallet.exe --restore-deterministic-wallet Launch the bat file for restore I am getting the same issue where I am being asked for my wallet name instead of my 24 word key. I want to contribute to this project with a donation. But first I want to make sure I can at least recover my wallet to be able to send and receive XMR! I did not write down my password, just my 24 key words because the fluffy pony tutorial said that is all I need: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg8246348#msg8246348sorry if I am not understanding something but I still need help!

I am getting the same issue where I am being asked for my wallet name instead of my 24 word key.
First it asks you for the name of the new (restored) wallet. Give a new name for a wallet file that doesn't already exist. Second, it asks for a password which will be used to secure the new wallet. Finally, it asks for the seed words.

Can't I just use my 24 words to open my old wallet file with the existing name? update: Thanks! I was able to restore with the method you described.

No, you're "restoring" the wallet, as in restoring it from a backup. If you have the file you wouldn't need to "restore" it, you'd just open it. But the point of creating a cold wallet is that you don't have the file. If you have the file, that's not a cold wallet, and then you should just use it normally (with a reasonably secure password).

Ok, now that makes sense! your tutorial when you said you dont need to remember the password only applied to cold storage (no file) then. If I am keeping the file then I DO need a password to open it right? Otherwise I need to use the seed words to "recover" the wallet like I just did (since I did not have the password, but did have the file). Am I finally understanding things right?

You need the password to open a wallet file (if you assigned one; it is optional but recommended). You don't need the password to restore from the seed words, because you will be creating a new wallet file with a new password. If you don't have the password then having the file does you no good, unless you can come up with the password somehow (remember it, brute force it, etc.). At that point you will need to restore the wallet, or lose your coins.
