Wow, a monero hardware wallet is just what we need, I hope this gets funded asap, I will donate some when I next access my cold wallet which is quite a chore, can't wait for a user friendly storage device, the last piece of the monero puzzle for me!

It is time tested privacy assuring coin and that's why I will prefer to stick with this instead of jumping on others. I am sure having such large community raising of funds shouldn't be big problem though isn't easy. This campaign of donation need to be promoted at large scale to let people know that Monero needs their support to get next milestone.

In my opinion XMR.to is very important for the near to medium future of Krypto as a whole , maybe we need more entries and exit points than blockchains .

If you are using the monero GUI wallet in version 0.12 , you do not need to download the blockchain , you can simply use a remote control if you want .

It should work properly. However, note that syncing to an HDD will be significantly slower than syncing to an SSD. In addition, you can use this guide for assistance with moving your blockchain (data.mdb) to the external drive:

And this can cost you your coins, there is a tradeoff in security. If you plan to use a remote node then VET it!!!

Monero was ranked to respectable 9th place  (leaving behind bitcoin on  13th place) by following criterias: technology, application and innovation in official ratings  implemented by China government. I think it will give XMR  extra momentum on Chinese market.
