This kicks ass, it looks like it slipped by over here.
Maybe it's time for people to take out their old smartphones and check if they can also run their own monero node!
Nothing beats regular pc but people in third world don't all have computers, and this way they can contribute the network.

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

Not sure if this is off topic or not, but read a post today stating that is more profitable to mine Raptoreum than Monero? have you guys tested this?
Not promoting Raptoreum, just a bit intrigued that there might be a coin more profitable.

Monero Developer Ricardi Fluffypony Spagni released from US jail two days ago and I am not sure if we should worry about that.
He confirmed release on Twitter but he could also be working secretly with governemnt and I would better not use MyMonero wallet.

Why? Has there been any wallet update since he has been out?

Why jail? Did he get locked in a can? I see there is new news being circlejerked that talks about US ban on privacy coins. Hows that gonna affect Monero? I doubt there well be pernicious impact on the price but on the whole it does not smell right. I suggest that people with significant monero holdings sell it all or they may find themselves in a bind with their heavy losses. Better allege ur pain now than take a bath on ur fortune later.

Until there is no regular news about banning privacy coins, there is no point to be afraid of. Also, USA is only a small part of the world, the rest may or may not follow. My bet is that they will not, but your mileage may vary.

My Scrabble game: skrebl.eu
My database of electronic parts: elparts.mekweb.eu

Because MyMonero wallet was made by Ricardi Spagni and it has bad history, so I would better choose Monero GUI wallet instead.

In the second half of July 2021, there was an anomalous increase in transaction volume on the Monero network.

Oh boy.  People smarter than me (hopefully?) have done some work to explain some of what I have been yammering on about in the speculation thread for, well, quite a bit...

Thanks for posting.  I hope it's not bunk.  let's see!

This was excellent analysis!  And very interesting... I will be pondering it's meaning for a while.

Although they call the event an "attack" at one point in the piece they never speculate as to motive.

One motive I can think of is creating a sybil attack for future decoys?  A database of ring members to be used in de anonymizing attempts later?  Which also justifies the ~1k cost incurred in fees?

To be honest this is hitting the boundaries of my "How does Monero work" knowledge...

Just assuming that WAS the motive, i wonder if there are any countermeasures that do not introduce more attack surface.

VERY INTERESTING STUFF!

How about if this is all connected Binance exchange with recent regulatory changes, and we know very well that Binance is manipulating Monero price for some time?
Single enitity could be Binance or chainanalasys, but I think Monero developers can always work on this.

Binance can not manipulate price of Monero because Binance is not the only exchange Monero is listed and traded on. There are more exchanges for Monero and they are not small exchanges.

The chart of Monero is good enough and price about $200 is good to buy it more.
With this chart, it is safer if you wait for price from $150 to $160 to be called. I don't believe Monero will fall to low price like that.
