namecoin is a great idea and trial, but seems not get seriouly applied.

now,ENS of ethereum seems more popular with some good names for auction.

Except that ENS is a lot more centralised than Namecoin.

The team announced SoftFork was successful, they make out the network failures that appeared immediately after activating the soft fork
https://twitter.com/biolizard89/status/1184714796630974466?s=20

This...

Namecoin Core 0.18.0 has been released on the Downloads page. This release succesfully softforked at block height 475,000 on mainnet. Contained in the softfork are:

    P2SH
    CSV
    SegWit

That are now activated.

Miners, exchanges, registrars, explorers, ElectrumX servers, and all other service providers should upgrade as soon as possible.

We've just tagged Namecoin Core 0.19.0 in the Github repository (https://github.com/namecoin/namecoin-co ... g/nc0.19.0). This is a new major release of Namecoin Core, mostly incorporating the upstream changes that Bitcoin Core 0.19.0 brought. It also includes a refactor of the mempool handling logic for names, which will in the future allow sending multiple pending name_updates for a single name. (While not typically useful for Namecoin, there was no good reason to disallow this; it can be useful in emergencies or when a messed-up name_update has been issued accidentally to fix the situation more quickly.)

Love the new wallet. Seed phrases are a great implementation!
ah.... Is there no longer an active online explorer?

please forgive the noob question, but in this and cryptocoin projects in general:
why are the wallet and explorer separate things? is it too difficult to incorporate an explorer into the client?
In the case of NMC, I would really like to do a search and find all the results, instead of simply checking to see if a namespace is available.
thnx

my specialization is cryptoart and my preffered platform is CounerParty
Feel free to give feedback on the Treatise I wrote. This Gallery includes multiple works made by, with or for me.

A block explorer is something quite different at least in terms of UI than a wallet, that's presumably the reason.  They also use some indices (e.g. of all data by address), which are not needed for ordinary operation and would thus increase the storage and computing cost of a full node if included by default.  Also most block explorers run on a website, so that people can use them without a full node, which can be useful.

Note that Namecoin Core does allow you to retrieve essentially all the data a block explorer has through its RPC interface, as well as get a list of all registered names (using name_scan).  There is just not a UI for it.

Yes, the project is still very much alive and you can register names through Namecoin Core or Electrum-NMC if you want.

Is there a new update about this coin legend? I see a lack of market interest since two years ago which caused the price and volume of Namcoin to decline. Altcoin competition may be one of the factors also why this coin cannot rise. So I will wait for a new roadmap, especially when Bitcoin will halving soon.

What is happening lately with them? Marketing isn't necessary, companies go into development phases all the time. But what is the best place to find the newest info?

Of course the software works, another thing is that to access a .bit you need to install NCDNS. (before it was even more complex)

Regarding to the initial posting of this whole thread please take a look at my last update in my recently created Telegram Channel. Evidently the dev team has long since been a real "team", and if there's a way to push the Namecoin project into the corner of a nerd's experimental study, someone found and reached it: Congrats to "J.R.", the unstoppable "J.R. Ewing" of the Namecoin community! I'll summarize everything shortly in a separate thread here.

Do you guys have any social media accounts?

Also, what do you do to advertise and market the project?

I invite you to showcase it on the BitcoinRoot project for the general crypto audience to notice your project.

It's idle to explain, that the Namecoin blockchain isn't owned by an individual or a loose union of some individuals. As a peer-to-peer project it's a community project. This community includes therefore all users of Namecoin as a blockchain service or just as a currency, not only the loose union of some individuals. Thereby everyone can decide by himself which project site, which individual or team is representing their interests best, including the services provided. There's no doubt, that the previous team of Namecoin developers just focused on the implementation of the additional Namecoin commands to the two common Bitcoin software wallets Bitcoin Core or Electrum and never provided a blockchain explorer as linked above. Even “J.R.” himself mentioned it on his project site, that the cancellation of the cooperation with the Open NIC project caused widely criticism by the community as Namecoin users. So there is no doubt that the community is divided since “J.R.” continuously abuses the Namecoin project for his theoretical studies. Namecoin as a DNS service didn't get popular within 9 years of development, particularly caused by missing elementary features like .bit email services, the general implementation of the blockchain DNS resolution in the common browsers, search engines and name explorers, SSL/TLS certificates and their acceptance from the common browsers. All we can say: The Namecoin project never grew out of the early stage of an experimental project - so useless for 99.999 % of the whole internet community! The linked blockchain explorer with connected active Telegram channel and group is the first step to change this. Of course pedophiles, drug dealers and terrorists searching for their weapons, who are accessing the darknet over the Tor network with the wish not to leave any trace, are happy of the easier usage after the implementation of the .bit redirect to the cryptographic .onion addresses (after the cooperation with the Open NIC project was cancelled particularly for this abuse of .bit domains) - so congratulations for this great “success”! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
