Why the marketcap is so low?

Because pumper dumpers and market makers don't appreciate the protection of freedom of speech. When their blog or website gets taken down after some faux pas that offends some Karen or hybrid kev/kar then they might learn the hard way about the benefits of Name Coin Smiley

i cannot see why the market price shall have any relevance, for me only the functionality has. This, i believe in this coin, and own it independant of the market price. And i like it because of no lying PR. The only thing is, that other technicians should know that this technology exist.

Be the change you want to see... come offer to buy some Namecoins or offer to sell some Namecoins on an exchange that is easy for people to maintain their privacy and actually withdraw their coins.

A little secret about this stuff... No one wants you until everyone wants you and the moment a VC sees they can make some money off it, tada.  Namecoin has that potential.

Functionality has a price.
Namecoin cannot exist without mining
Mining costs joules.

i agree, and namecoin has a price, and will have it as long as it has a functionality. But why should it have a higher price than now? For most crypto investors it has no more functionality than becoming rich itself, and i will compete this behaviour, with my modest capabilities.

The good thing about Namecoin mining is that is piggybacking on Bitcoin’s miners, something that was established in the beginnings as merged mining. For this reason NMC has a lot of potential in the sense that its blockchain is secured by BTC and so the price of NMC may drop without its network being compromised by attacks. The bad thing is that NMC has been kept in a closet for some reason, its tremendous potential has been hindered by nearsightedness, the current developer claims that only the functionality is important to him yet for many years I have personally seen no functionality, even to try it in the nightly build  tor browser is almost impossible. Mayor exchanges have been delisting NMC do to low volume and lack of interest, I have been holding this coin for three years also thinking about its functionality but only have seen my investment been reduced 10 times, there seems to be no limit to how low the price of this coin can go, something is definitely not working. If there is something in all these years I have noticed is that when Bitcoin pumps, Namecoin bleeds, and when Bitcoin dumps, Namecoin bleeds even harder. If functionality was the only important thing, then why not just create a non-monetary domain blockchain, its like saying that you only care about the functionality of your bicycle but that the roads you ride in are of no importance because they are unpredictable and irrational. There is clearly a one sided thinking at the core of this project that is driving it to its demise.

It's nothing more than rebalancing, it's known as the "Pantoffelportfolio" here in Germay from "Finanztest". Because it's a passive strategy, it works for stupids too. This i believe all humans are simple minded, without any exception, fatuous as an earthworm.

The more a human believes in it's intelligence, the more stupid he is, because there is no absolute intelligence, rationality, wisdom, or strengh. Animals and plants are becoming more and more intelligent and rational over us over time, the end of this way is cruelty among humans.

The rules of rebalancing contradicts the rules of neoclassic economy in the way, that market price oscillation is leading to profits only. One profit with cheap buy, the other profit with expensive sell. The result is a deescalation of market price deflections. Better yet, the higher the deflections, the higher the profit above average. But if all people in this world do it, then there is no gain for any person any more. This is the human way of trading, open and free, and the greedy elites will try to break this community the neck. This can only happen, if we stay more greedy than them.

The neoclassic economy is not wrong, it's the escalating greedy I-economy or me-first-economy, with people who believe they are knowing, and could predict the market. The people playing this game want to get rich, but they loose all longterm for sure. Animals as apes can compete them, animals and plants are relative intelligent against greed:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/rickferri/2012/12/20/any-monkey-can-beat-the-market/

As earth worms leaders do not make sense. They are only for delegating theft to a more unscupulous person than oneself.

For rebalancing distribute your wealth over a set of non correlating assets, each asset having a budget (equates confidence) in % of all savings.  Rebalance from time to time, especially after an unexpected heavy market price deflection. Take your time, the longer you can wait, the higher is the profit, the greedy world is giving you its wealth by choice. Profit is not the goal, preservation is the goal. And never use credit, it's not allowed in a humane world!

Preserve this earth! Stay tuned!

This altcoin was successful and had a good value back in 2013, I don't think the price of 2 satoshis will touch it, I think the current price is very cheap, it's really cheap now, I just took another look at this old altcoin, what is this project still alive and still developing

Hello, I am in Namecoin since some days, I find the Nameid and .bit stuff very interesting, but unfortunately there is not much user friendly setup/configuration for that. I am missing a less techy, but more easy walking thru document (examples that work). Especially the JSON stuff, for setting up and changing .bit domains or nameid's is confusing for me as newbie. I try since days to login to Nameid (registering with signing a message) but it just does not work at all. The Firefox add on can not be installed, due to broken add on (mozilla says) therefore it is also not available at the Mozilla official repository. That is all very frustrating for a newbie. I also registered a .bit site and want to resolve that from my regular dns homepage, but the JSON does not work and I can not find a easy How do (with examples that work). Frustrated! Maybe someone here knows any good setup/configuring Document to provide it here. Please.  Angry Sad Embarrassed Undecided Cry

Especially: How to get my id/name registered on https://nameid.org/?view=login (I signed 50 times no success (signmessage "address" "message") failure= invalid signature, but if i do verifymessage it says true......

How to get my https://homepage resolved to/with homepage.bit? I tried that: d/homepage {"ns":"homepage."} (i don`t have a static IP address). I tried more complex JSON as well, all did not work. And yes I have Namecoin Core running and ncdns dnssec trigger and I can resolve other .bit addresses.
Thank you for helping a newbie. At least things have to be easy, to attract more people. The Idea of uncensorable .bit domains and of Nameid is great, but if it is not accessable to the mass it is useless. Thanks!

I miss when crypto was about decentralisation.

Decided to dive back into Namecoin after years upon years of neglecting it. Anyone have a list of peers I can connect to? Namecoin Core is stuck in limbo at the moment and can't sync.

Crypto was created to liberate the individual. Decentralisation matters.

My recollection is that the NameID Firefox extension uses XPCOM (as opposed to WebExtensions) and therefore won't work in modern Firefox.  Alas, NameID is not getting a lot of maintenance at the moment, as the relevant developers are focusing on other things (e.g. Namecoin Core and .bit).  As usual, if an interested new developer would like to step up, it would be welcome.  (We have some ideas on how NameID's design could be improved.)

I also registered a .bit site and want to resolve that from my regular dns homepage, but the JSON does not work and I can not find a easy How do (with examples that work). Frustrated! Which documentation did you look at that you found confusing?

How to get my https://homepage resolved to/with homepage.bit? I tried that: d/homepage {"ns":"homepage."} (i don`t have a static IP address). I tried more complex JSON as well, all did not work. And yes I have Namecoin Core running and ncdns dnssec trigger and I can resolve other .bit addresses.

I don't see that value in "d/homepage" here.  Anyway, {"ns":"homepage."} means you've set your nameserver to "homepage.", which is presumably not a real nameserver.  Not sure why you'd expect that to work.  FWIW, Electrum-NMC has a quite nice GUI for constructing the JSON, which you might find useful.  (It's in the process of being ported to Namecoin Core as well; there should be a news post about that in the next week or so.)

Thank you for helping a newbie. At least things have to be easy, to attract more people. The Idea of uncensorable .bit domains and of Nameid is great, but if it is not accessable to the mass it is useless. Thanks!

Yep, no argument.  UX has been steadily improving over time (kudos to our excellent funders for enabling that), but there are certainly still improvements that can be made.

Namecoin's IRC channels are now also available via the Tor-friendly OFTC network: https://www.namecoin.org/resources/chat/

Also, a development update from yanmaani about eliminating a footgun in the name_show API in Namecoin Core: https://www.namecoin.org/2020/08/22/namecoin-core-name-show-expiration.html

It's not particularly surprising that newcomers to cryptocurrency don't have much interest in Namecoin.  Namecoin is derived from the culture that permeated the Bitcoin community in 2010-2011, which was a culture that was here for the tech, not to make easy money.  Today's cryptocurrency culture doesn't look much like that (sadly), so Namecoin is of little interest to them.  On the other hand, there's plenty of interest in other areas, e.g. in the Tor community.  Even a bit of media coverage now and then.

Real cypherpunks don't worry about whatever market fads are en vogue now.  Cypherpunks write code.
