Namecoin is about 6 months behind Bitcoin as far as halving right? So we will get a good indication of the price trend by what Bitcoin does the second half of this year.

ummm i thought it was like 3 years behind bitcoin

Yep, I have no idea where I got that number from. Last halving was 2014 so I imagine the next NMC halving is around 2018.

does anybody know anything about this coin as far as plans for the .bit domain? shouldnt this coin be worth at least 100 bucks by now. who is in charge of making the .bit domain thing happen?

AFAIK it works ... you need a browser extension and they were working on lightweight version a while back that might be out already.

It works now to the full extent possible, but domain names registered in Namecoin will never be available to the common person as simply a dot bit unless someone were to spend the $100K to buy the .bit top level registrar name, and someone running the .bit domain still would undermine the decentralized trust that the blockchain provides.

With configuration to hook your local computer's DNS to the namecoin blockchain, your local computer can look up namecoin domain names as dot.bit or any other tld you want. There are also various sites on the web that make namecoindomain.otherdomain.com work, or block explorers that allow you to look up the data stored in domain names more easily than running the software yourself.

Wouldn't there be a way for someone to set up a server that acts as a DNS that includes namecoin domains?

Then you just point your computer DNS to that computer...what am I missing here?

Nothing. Those have existed from very early on in namecoin. Bridges they were called for a while.

The .bit bridge at OpenNIC is alive and kicking. Go to http://opennicproject.org/ and pick an IP for your PC's DNS setting. You should be aware of the privacy and centralization issues of this method, though. Then try nx.bit, arm.bit, veclabs.bit, etc. (your browser may need a "http://" in front of the URL, otherwise it could interpret the input as a search engine request).

will never be available to the common person as simply a dot bit unless someone were to spend the $100K
It would be much more efficient if someone spends $30k for the development of a blockchain-read-only .bit resolver for Android. biolizard89 recently mentioned BitcoinJ as a good starting point, see https://forum.namecoin.info/viewtopic.php?p=16473#p16473

Looks like NMC is getting delisted from Kraken exchange by the end of this week. Just a heads up for anyone with a Namecoin balance over there!

Thanks to Kraken's buggy XBT/NMC GUI hardly anyone bothered messing about with work-arounds just to be able to trade NMCs at Kraken. I was actually thinking about developing a simple open-source UI as a replacement. Unfortunately their Terms of Service explicitly prohibit this and I therefore had to abandon this idea.

The strange thing is that they later got everything right when adding the ETH/XBT pair. They then could have easily copy-pasted the ETH GUI to the NMC GUI and >>>vrooooom!>>> catapult their NMC trading volume towards btc-e dimensions (i.e. increase by a factor of 100 to 1000).

Any reason Namecoin is up 25% today?

ETH owners fleeing to NMC?
