Wow, forum finally let me register without a "you just registered 45 seconds ago!" message.

So, I have a question.

Is it possible to control the majority of a POS coin's network?

For example, if you had a network of say 20 or 30 computers running a custom version of your wallet, and all other clients connected first to your network (using the connect command in the qt wallet), would whoever owned that first machine in effect have more or less complete control over the network? Could blocks mined by other users be rejected, or additional blocks mined and hash rate misreported?

I'm not a programmer, nor am I much more than passingly familiar with crypto communication protocols and network communication between nodes, so the above question might have zero relevance. But I've been seriously bugged by that mystery hashrate that appeared from nowhere, and went back to nowhere and isn't mining anything else. How is hashrate calculated? Is there any way to check raw block data against the difficulty as reported? Is it possible to "pause" all POS block creation if you controlled 51% or more of the network (or at least controlled the first node everyone connected to, and therefore the information source for all other nodes and blockchain info)?

Is a 51% attack (or in my scenario maybe it's a 100% attack) even possible on a POS coin? Could a 51% attack be pulled off with less than 51% of the net hash rate if you could somehow control other aspects of the network?

Someone more knowledgeable than me please clue me in.

Thanks!

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

MAJOR issues with the core code

I've been doing lots of transfers...
It's even worse than that implied 6 minute confirm time...
The wallet has been unusable with VERY ERRATIC confirmation times for about 24 hours...
Last night a 1st confirmation took over 60 minutes.

Price crashing, premine gone, Dev won't answer questions, weird cult like bag holders who take everything as gospel. This is a sure sign to GTFO!

Dumped. This is all too dodgy. Sure it may go up later, but that's too much of a risk.

I'm relatively new to XC... Made something with DRK... Still in DRK... Ramping up my position size in XC... Wish I could do more right now... I can't now, but soon will..

I do Dev too... And it's hilarious to read folks writing about XC and its Death Throes...

Do you really think a guy with the XC's professional background would throw that record of excellence down the drain for a few bucks? A few BTC?

Really?

I don't know what's going on at this precise moment. I don't care. What I know is that the kind of guy he must be to put together the kind of Architecture and Design supporting Anonymity he has... this guy is a serious guy... And that's why I'm a buyer... Dump all you like...

direct link pls, not just check the explorer to find some patten.

because there are few transfer on block explorer, it's easy to find some patten.

but nobody can find Direct link between XC blockchain which implies the XC mixer has worked smoothly.
also XC dev will update this bug in next version, so no more fixed patten can be used to track the sender's address.

we all know you are a dark supporter
and i am a XC supporter
no offend  to each other, we can check this thread one month later.
if XC coin is a SCAM coin, it deserve going to die sooner or later and i will pay for my mistake.

DRK has months and forked recently... XC has weeks...

The problem here seems to be the dynamic trust network, when the point of cryptos is a trustless network.
