okay i got it, irritating, took a lot of tries, then i had to set some gpu levels once into the miner. thank you anyways. if someone ever asks i had to do
sudo ./sgminer --algorithm darkcoin --no-extranonce -o stratum+tcp://blahblah:blah -u xx -p xx
from the settings i went from there and used the intensity and yado yado to get it to work, hope this helps, had to change the intensity and everything after it took a minute to load, it will say something about an error, just let it sit, it will start up, then change the gpu settings from the menu after it starts to work, you will see your hash rate increase from there.. this of course being if you can't get it to work ANY other way and are a total noob to ubuntu or linux... i am a windows user moving into ubuntu ;p at least for mining anyways..

NeoScrypt -- When i issue the command "git clone --recursive https://github.com/sgminer-dev/sgminer.git", the cloned "sgminer" directory does not have the "neoscrypt.*" files in the "kernel" or "algorithm" directories. ystarnaud has added the "neoscrypt.cl" file from Wolf9466 a few hours ago. The new "neoscrypt.*" files can be seen in the directories mentioned above via ystarnaud's github post. How do I clone ystarnaud's latest edition? --scryptr

There is something wrong on the develop branch git version..
Scrypt and scrypt-n barely work at all, just spit out HW errors. Also random HW errors on Keccak and neoscrypt, and also sometimes even on X11.
Master branch from git seems to work with no HW errors, with exact same config.
So, anyone struggling with HW errors, try the master branch version.. This can be perhaps be combined with kernel files from the develop branch.

also my mod build is based off the master branch with all the changes for neoscrypt added so you might try it as well not really sure what the difference is i know scrypt-n has always given me some errors but they do seem to be worse now
