I ordered 4 S3+ and one of them had a crooked cap that made smoke pour out of the unit, the 2nd DOA unit just made a spark when I plugged it in. That's a 50% defect rate out of the gate! There is nothing wrong with my power supply or electrical as everyone including bitmain is suggesting over and over to me. I used a 20 amp single breaker on each G2 EVGA 1300 with just 3 miners on it with stock PCI-E connectors that worked fine on all my other S3, which should be more than enough. I ran regular S3s on this setup since June.  I am sorry, but bitmain has to do something to really restore my confidence here. I can understand the S3+ going bad after a few months, but 2 of right away out of the box? Even though I have the photos as evidence, its still feels like no one believes me, it MUST have been something I have done wrong and not anyone at bitmain. Very frustrating. I am sending them back, even after they see the smoke pouring out and the spark from the other unit, they probably will still want to blame me for it.

One word - SPONDOOLIES! Israeli made, no bullshit, just works.

This guy is right. Spondoolies iz awesome!

nice try, but no way. Others have had the same issue, how is a cap that is raised off the board my fault? I have purcased over 50 S3 or more and other mining equipment.

From where and when did you purchase the S3. When did you return it and to who. Who have you communicated with at Bitmain?

Hi there. This is my first post.  I purchased four S3’s and have had trouble keeping them mining since I received them about three weeks ago. They will all run for several hours and then GH/s drops down from about 450 Gh/s to about 45 Gh/s.

I had previously been running five S1's that ran great for 6 months. The issue has only begun with the four new S3. They do not drop internet connection they just lower the hash rate to about 45 Gh/s.

This happens randomly with each S3 and at different times. I cannot run longer than 16 hours before 1 to 3 miners will drop out to about 45 Gh/s randomly.

I would much appreciate some suggestions and help.

Your S3's shipped with the "faulty" firmware so you will have to flash them to the latest 19th December firmware.
To check what firmware you have on your S3's, go to the webUI Status => Overview page.

Get the latest firmware from the bitmain support page.

This is correct, firmware can be found here. Double checking to make sure that latest December firmware is being loaded as standard (if not already). MD5: 7DF1B12D28B25E10AAC37E2EAFC7397B

Its a known firmware problem, but would be good to know what his PSU setup is as well.

MrPark, the cap in the photo has been damaged by an impact.  It was hit with something.  You can see the slight dent in the cap can.

I purchased them from Bitmain directly from the website, I spoke with Yoshi, when I showed him that photo and told him smoke was pouring out he asked me what pool I was using??? He said they are going to fix that fire trap and send it back to me. I just want 2 new units or a refund, I was told neither is an option.

So do you have one or two units which are a problem, what are the problems on both of them? So far I see a photo of one bent cap. Yes, you would not receive a refund or replacement unless you sent the unit back anyway.

I'm not sure what the problem is, you're saying the miner(s) are damaged and have been offered to have them fixed?

Yes, one was the bad cap, the 2nd unit when I plugged it in would not power on. So what I did was I unplugged it, opened up the case and plugged it in. The only thing I saw was a spark on the right board, nothing else, the other board would also not power up. I tested these on different power supply, its just like those 2 miners came from a bad pile. I just want them to ship me 2 new units, which from my emails with them is not one of the options they are willing to offer me. I just received these days ago, so there would be no motivation for me to break them on purpose and go through all of this.  I want them to send 2 brand new miners, or refund me the full amount. Both of those I was told are not options. It's not like I was mining these for months, they were DOA units! Not something that needs to be repaired! I agree it is odd that I got 2 bad miners, I believe they shipped me miners from a returns pile. I only ask they make this right since it's clearly a mistake.

Yoshi has given you address details right? Ship them back and I'll make sure you get new miners.

Dogie. Why are the fans on the S3+ so loud when Bitmain markets them as quiet miners? It seems like a little more money could be spent on getting a high efficiency fan that runs quieter so we don't have to go buy aftermarket fans to replace the stock fans on the S3+ units. Bitmain needs to start considering things like this and provide a better quality product for the end users.

the s-3 fans are quiet compared to the stock s-1 or the stock s-5

just downclock the  s-3 to hash at 425gh and they work fine.  I have 2 in my friends office batch 1 been running them since july 22 2014.

If you want to complain about s-3's you can  but they are way better then the s-5

The 12025 is pretty much as efficient as it gets in relation to a sensible fan. In terms of cooling, what other people are doing is replacing them with significantly less powerful fans and running them hotter. In order to retain the same efficiency and long life, there is a certain level of cooling (and so inherent noise) that is required.

Trust me, I bang on about them all the time about minimising noise, and there are tweaks they can do to improve the S3. But the solutions you're comparing the S3 aren't comparative because they run at different targets

My S3+ are almost silent. Unless you put them next to your pillow, you really don't hear anything. I also have S3's its the same thing. All the other vendors use fans that are 60+ db which are much louder.

Huh?? My S3+ is super loud when hashing full speed and temp around 47 C. It is way louder than 60 db. You must have much lower ambient temps than I do. My ambient temp around 28 to 30 C. When aircon is on it does quiet done a bit.

There must be something wrong... What is the fan RPM?

When loud about 2300 or more rpm. Seen it as high as 2900 rpm. Nothing wrong. My brother's is exactly the same.

I cant really help you, the ones I have are same temp and RPM and to me they are near silent.  I can't imagine that type of fan even being even capable of 60db.

Hello all. This is my first post but I have been lurking for a while. I was wondering if anyone had any insight on this. I ordered 2 S3s from cryptocrane. They arrived in a timely fashion and in good condition. When I got them all I had was an old 600 watt psu. I plugged the one miner into it and before I could configure it, the psu blew. I figured it was old so had to be psu. Ordered a 750 watt psu thinking that would run both. Plugged the same miner in and it blew that one. Okay, strange. This time I got slick (or so I thought) and ordered 2 1000 watt psus. Plugged the same miner in that blew the last 2 and pop, third one. Okay definitely a bad unit. Plug the other one in and I'll be damned, it blew the other psu. That is more than a coincidence. Any ideas? just bad luck or bad units? So far I'm out 120 bucks cause I opened the 2 1000s. Very frustrating to say the least. I then got a evga 1000 watt g1, now one miner's (the second one) fan comes on but nothing else, no led lights nothing. The other one (the first one) does nothing at all.
