i'm so glad i sold my last S3's last week. this thread is beginning to read like yet another car crash.

Train wreck more like....

It's almost as if bitmain deliberately gave their entire customer base a firmware that f*cks their miners up in the hope that they'll just buy some more as replacements....the fact that they still haven't removed it from their website yet, or don't even comment about it is just astounding.....

Way to go bitmain. How the mighty have fallen......... Tongue

To add insult to injury, Bitmain tells me my warranty expired eventho I did not receive it until Sept 18th. What's up with that?

It's kinda like they start  the warranty clock on the day they ship it (- ie: Sept 11th in my case). That's just not right.

I believe legally it's when you receive the item, so they're wrong.

I think any logical person would agree with you....but their in China and I'm in North America....so f%! me. However you know how the saying goes:

" Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Guess what they won't fool me once more...........because they just lost me as an ongoing customer by not honoring the warranty.

I do not wish to "rub salt in the wounds" of those who've bricked their machines, but the cardinal rule with this throw away tech is "if it ain't broke, do not fix it!"
There was NO good reason to update any S3 type rig with the Nov firmware. Yes I know it was supposed to fix the reset button and bitmain publicised its release more than any other I've known, but still, there was no need.
The reason I did not even bat an eyelid was because it purported to fix an issue that I had no need for, aka the reset button. My S3 types were running OK to well and have never had a reason to use the reset button. Most nuances that I have encountered with the S3 types are mostly down to my limited IT knowledge, but a quick google search usually resolves those (if not a post in these hallowed pages).

I am aware this post is not sticky, but I'll say it while I can;

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Do Bitmain actually entertain warranty claims? Received an S3 with one blade DOA, and another with faulty controller. Asked me to document a set of tests for them and email it over. That's like a month ago. No replies of any kind...

Hello,

I did Reset to defaults via browser and it never ends.

Now I see all leds on. green for ethernet is blinkink and other three is on (red, green, yellow). And now I even can't connect via browser.

Anybody know what is wrong and how I can fix this problem.

Anybody can help?

Quote
If all parameters in web page are OK and your miner is working very well, you don’t need to update it.

***Go to ‘System->Backup / Flash Firmware’ you will be able to upgrade the firmware.
‘Keep settings’ is chosen by default, you should choose it if you hope to preserve the current settings. You should cancel this option if you hope to restore to initial settings.
Click ‘Browse’ button to choose upgrade file. After choosing upgrade file, then click ’Flash image...’ button to start to download this file to your system. After downloading, please click ‘Proceed ’button, then upgrade system. During the upgrade process, you need to wait patiently, and must keep power on, otherwise, AntMiner will restore to initial settings. AntMiner will be connected to login interface after finishing system upgrade.
Warning: Power outage during firmware update should be avoided.

Do I need more power to do reset?

Quote
Factory Default RESET Button

Please let the Antminer S3 powered up and running for about 3 minutes, then use a paper clip or something thin to press a button inside this hole on the "RIGHT" hand side of the Ethernet cable connector.  Press and Hold the Button for about 10 seconds, let it so, wait for 3 minutes, then Press the Resett Button 1 more time.  Please wait for 3 minutes, then turn the power off and power it back on.

I did this many times and it not help.

Doing reset first time I can see difference- yellow led is turned off and green is going dark, but if I do this second time I don't see any changes on leds- It's ok? It' normal?

In advance ty for any support.

I say this many times

1. make sure your PSU is at least 25 percent greater " I prefer 50 percent" than your miner max power rating fully overclocked to the max

2. Make sure miners are on a breaker in your fuse box in your home by themselves with nothing else on the breaker. also make sure the breaker can supply at least 80 percent of the rated power continuous.

this happened to my every time any appliance "toaster, refrigerator, microwave" or anything with a heavy load was turned on "which my wife is always using" my hash rate on my miners would drop down and I always have had to reset them.

now that I put them on a isolated breaker by itself no problems except for the one bad miner that a bought from "www.112bit.com" they had the cheapest price which I knew at the time. I never do that again the guy is more than likely selling rejected miners that did not pass spec that's why there so cheap.

anyway if you have a billion watt PSU with 100 percent efficiency you will have problems if the continuous power from the wall is not enough. the breaker will not trip or cause a fire that's the worse case but it will cause a whole lot of issues. anyway you get the point.

hey BITMAIN did you ever think about going into the toaster business lol lol Cheesy Tongue

maybe it will be the new S5 that is soppose to be coming out.

change your name to S**TMAIN will your at it.

I am going to make some toast now on my new s3. Tongue

I heard back from Bitmain Warranty. They're wanting me to pay 0.18985 btc for one S3 control board. That's not the end of the world but it's the principle of the issue...so i am insisting they send it for free as the warranty (going by normal business practices and legally) does not expire until Dec 18th.

I think you've got away with it (now that the BTC rate is a bit depressed). If I were you (and that price included shipping), I'd just pay up and chase them for vouchers. That will save you on downtime and headaches, IMO.

Ya- you're right. That's what they're counting on. This world we live in has everyone in your pocket for every nickel (or crypto) they can grab.

I guess i will go for the quick solution.

Uh huh, your theory being that because a tiny percentage of all of the S3s out there have issues, Bitmain is deliberately trying to sell more miners by crippling the ones that they have sold?

Get real.

Admittedly, it doesn't seem likely that their failure rate approaches that of Motorola or Nokia, but it certainly isn't enough to cry "conspiracy!"
