5x PowerColor 290s (PCI bracket removed for better airflow) Gigabyte MB: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4642#ovSempron 145 CPU Single 8GB RAM stick 320GB 2.5" HD 5x USB riser cards/cables: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=370907.03x Rosewill 750 Modular 80Plus Gold: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182264I was gonna use 2 PSUs for a 4 card setup, but ended up getting 5 GPUs to work, so I had to add a third PSU. I'd like to replace one of the 750s with a 1100W, and keep it at 2 PSUs. Got this one set up today, and will tidy up the cable management tomorrow (don't laugh! ) MB and PSUs are on shelves on the front of the rack, and the GPUs are on a shelve on the back. GPU mounting is temporary while we figure out a more permanent (and still cheap) solution. Each rig should take up ~6U, using 3 shelves. We have tons of 2 post racks and those little shelves, so we should have at least 3 more rigs like this by the weekend, and another 8-10 by the end of the month. Ubuntu x64, AMD 13.11b9 driver, TC 32765, E:1040/M:1400, and fan @85%. Could go to 1105/1500 for 855KH/s per GPU, but the temps start to hit 90C, which I don't like. These cards have elpida memory, and do well with any Engine/Mem ratio of 0.74 (after much testing).

Let's hear it... what's the story? The big question of course is when will this "broken miner" be listed on Ebay. Someone will pay a lot of money for it.

My first dedicated LTC mining rig: I'm jelly of you and your 0.0000001 khash ! Oooh.. is that an S3 Savage 4 gpu ? 0.0000002 khash.. I know bubl3s irl. I saw that rig in person. This is back before the solidcoin devs came out with scrypt support on reaper, so at this time LTC was CPU only. The CPU in use there escapes my mind, though I think it may have been an old Athlon 64.

OK that wins the prize for the worst rig I have seen, and I've read every single post in this thread. It looks like it fell though the ceiling or something yet somehow is stacked semi neatly. Is that a wasp nest or beehive developing on it!?!

My guess they put too much load on a wire, it melted, shorted and set on fire, then burned through the ceiling causing the collapse. Before you put rigs together learn the load capacity AWG (Americican Wire Gauge) of your power cables.

Unfortunately there are many reasons why that equipment could've caught on fire. You can't just put it down to overloaded cables.

Not the prettiest looking thing! In total, the rack only cost about $15 to build from scratch. So far it has a 7970, (2) 280x's and a single 290. About to order 6 more GPU's to cram into this thing https://i.imgur.com/ETg54sl.jpg

Unfortunately there are many reasons why that equipment could've caught on fire. You can't just put it down to overloaded cables. We almost had a fire on our test rig the other day from a shitty power cable. It was only powering ONE 290, and my Kill-a-watt said it was pulling less than 450W at the wall. Yet the cable was so cheap, and it was getting so hot, it was melting and discoloring and charring the testbench it was sitting on. After we unplugged it, it was so brittle you could bend it and snap it in half! As I said, this was pulling less than 450W for less than 24 hours, and the cable was toast. So yes, it's easier than you think, and only takes one bad cable to ruin everything.
