I seldom visit this thread anymore since I parted ways with all my UTC back during the ultrablockparty pool disaster, but did want to add another recommendation for Presstab's BE. His is, hands down, the best (currently) available hosted option for PoS coins.

@ Roister and the community.

here is the reply from PressTab

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi usukan

Costs for an explorer are $10/mo for coins with over 1 million blocks on the chain (I believe UTC has over 1m??). 6 months must be paid upfront, or 12 months can be prepaid for a $1/mo discount for $9/mo. There is also a one time fee of $40 due on signup.

I can usually get a coin up and running within a few days, so let me know if you are interested and I will start syncing the chain.

Thanks,

press
------------------------------------------------------------------------

So this can be up and running in just a few days.  Our Blockchain has 1.67m blocks so we are the $10 rate.  I will tell him to start syncing and we will arrange payment.

If we do 6 months to try it out - Cost will be $40 + 60 = 100

12 months: $40 + 108 = 148

@ Roister01 - I will go 50:50 with you if you want.

Everyone let me know your preference - if we have a few other contributions the 12 months is obviously a better option.

Any others in the community who want to chip in for this?  Just let me know.

Cheers - usukan

Thanks Roister

I will contact Presstab and confirm costs and setup requirements.

Cheers - usukan

Hi folks...

From reading your discussions and trying to understand them... Wink

I think the presstab explorer sounds like the best option, considering POS specific features...

As I can't really help with the programming/computer side of things, am willing to set up a D/D to pay for these if that is the option we all want to take.

Cheers,

Roister01

OK - I have taken the decision and paid PressTab for 12 months.

"press" is a good guy and great to work with.

He will have our block explorer up and running in a few days (hes already syncing) - and its far more than just a block explorer.
It will have graph details of hash rate, staking parameters and a whole lot more including a rich list.

BTC transaction sent and confirmed.

cost was 0.351728 BTC (plus a ridiculous 0.005 BTC, thats $2 USD, fee to get only medium priority on the Bitcoin network)

so all up cost 0.356728 BTC

send any BTC contributions to the block explorer project to:

If anyone else wants to contribute - I will keep any excess in store for our next project (Fixing the wallet/retarget issues).

Incidentally - I am talking with "press" at PressTab about our wallet to see if he or any of his colleagues may be able to fix the wallet/retarget revert to V3-Digishield - on a fee basis.  Will report any progress here.

Dear all,

At the very first start of UTC, many others and I, wanted to help UTC-projects and fire them a bit up with small or bigger financial help.

Now at the new Reboot of UTC, at this moment, Usukan and i put 25.000 UTC in the price pot for a nice contest.

Furthermore Usukan, Roister01, wtfc360 and me put extra BTC in a fresh and new project for UTC, a project which is important for the whole community of UTC, and to make UTC more attractive and better.

I will send at this moment an extra of 0,45 BTC to the development pot to Usukan for any sort of projects that are needed at this moment.

I can only wish the whole community see it as a project we do need to do together and that everybody will do a free donation for this and future needed developments and projects.

Let’s do it together my fellow community members.

Many little donations make a big pot together for important future developments of UTC.

Warm greetings,
Paul.

Thanks

Roister

Glad to see the decision to go with Presstab was made. He's a great guy and, like I said before, offers much more than "just" a block explorer with his.

I've used his robust data display and ideas in my own BE project as I truly do believe that the "standard" for block explorers needs to be raised overall and Presstab certainly accomplishes that.

Hi folks,

Could I just check, we seem to be getting quite a lot of orphans these days wrt to staking...what would be the reason for this?

Also, much as I hate to say it, I notice Bittrex has sponsored coins. When the retargetting is sorted, would it be worth doing this for a while...not in a way of pump and dump, more to remind people that UTC still exists, and get it noticed again? Just an idea...

Hi Roister

To be honest I have no idea - but I might add that in the past with other versions of the wallets I got far more orphans than now?

It may be due to the wallet and its rather heavy resource usage.  At some stage in the future we need to get the wallet rebuilt and streamlined so it does not use so many resources (in my non tech opinion there must be a lot of redundant or inefficient processes flying around inside the wallet which use too much CPU/RAM etc).  This will stop the periodic "lock up" issues too on computers with limited resources.  I think this may improve staking/orphans - but I am not tech.

It may be due to a slow internet connection in some cases?  Or lots of other things running on your computer (like 50 web pages on tabs updating data continuously etc).

I'm more inclined to think its the wallet or something else in the code.  Other coins get orphans too on staking so its not unexpected.

Somebody more tech may enlighten us.

Yes - sponsored coin may be a good idea down the track.

Cheers - usukan

Without going in and reviewing the UTC base code, I do know that GUI wallet responsiveness is not necessarily related to resource usage. UTC is fairly old code (read: ancient) and many optimizations and fixes that were implemented in BTC have never been ported over

Thanks Fuzzbawls - basically it points to a re-write (optimizations and fixes ported over) of the wallet required at some stage in the future.

Cheers - uskukan
