Hi folks,

Thanks for all the hard work in keeping the coin going!

Could I just check. I have my UTC on my windows qt, minting away. What do I need to do to upgrade without risking losing my coins? Should I transfer them to say cryptsy or something, do the upgrade and then transfer them back, or is there an easier way?
Please bear in mind, I am a novice at all this...

Many thanks,

Roister

Download link is down, can anybody upload ?

If you are going to leave your BTC on an exchange please send it to this address instead 1GH3ub3UUHbU5qDJW5u3E9jZ96ZEmzaXtG, I will at least use the money better than someone who steals it from the exchange. Thanks Wink

Steven, hello. Update 7.4.1-8 I downloaded a few days ago. It's the same thing that you're talking about now? Or do I need to download it and install again?

I believe its a problem that occurs with the Windows updates - if you are behind some things stop working properly sometimes - if you do the updates then some things change and don't work properly.

You just can't win.

Microsoft just don't care if its not a Windows program that you are running.

Yes, thank you, I will try to do it, but why it happened, vedya I have not changed anything in the system. Just when you start the next wallet happened.

Greetings. I have not updated at all. Just shut down the computer and turn it on again. And I got this problem. Automatic update Windows I generally disabled

just some ideas from my previous mistakes and misadventures with QT over several coins.

First above all - make sure you have backed up your wallet/s.  Back up and save the wallet.dat to more than 1 place (a few usb memory sticks) - (and if possible, if you know what I am talking about - check the size of the file against the backup file in App data roaming Ultracoin etc).

You should be able to just extract the Ultracoin folder and run the setup.exe in that folder - and it should give you the new wallet with your coins all intact in an updated wallet.  That being said - many times the remnants of the old wallet and the bugs in the Windows system you use cause some issues - and I just dont do it like that anymore for any wallet - up to you.

2nd - never transfer coins to an exchange if you dont need to.  Bad things can happen on exchanges - and Cryptsy is about due for some. Keep your coins under your control.

With Cryptsy - there is another issue that folks need to be aware of.  With a wallet change and other changes coming 1st Nov there is a good chance that Cryptsy will put the UTC wallet in maintenance mode.  This will allow no transfers in or out.  They are very slow at reinstating the wallet - so it may take a month if history repeats. A recent good example to the extreme is DEM down for 4 months.  So my advice - do not transfer to cryptsy.  Keep your coins under your control.

If it was me - I would install the new wallet on another computer.  When its synced the blockchain - test and send it a few UTC and send some back.  If it works - encrypt your wallet with a password AND make wallet backups - send all your UTC to the new wallet on the other computer.

This has another advantage - if you stake a lot you have maybe thousands of small transactions and sending to a new wallet cleans out these cobwebs.  Be prepared to adjust transaction fees if you get asked because lots of small transactions require more data to be sent as part of the transaction. Send in decent size chunks to minimise the number of staking blocks and maximise your stake payouts in the future.

Then - if you really want your UTC back on your original computer. - Back up your old empty wallet (always keep old empty dead wallet backups - why - cos Satoshi Nakamoto said so).  Save to a few usb memory sticks.  Uninstall Ultracoin QT from Control Panel/Programs etc.  Go to (make sure - Show Hidden Files is selected in Windows) Users/username/APP data/Roaming and DELETE the Ultracoin folder (with prev data and your wallet.dat file).

Restart the computer and do a clean install of the new wallet.  Sync and test with a few small transactions.  Encrypt and backup.  Send your UTC back to this new wallet on you old computer.

Your choice - but if you have wallet backups - nothing can make you lose your UTC in the end.  There is always a fix.

I hate to say this (dont like Windows and MS) - but if you dont do Windows updates - thats the likely cause of your wallet problem.  May not be but quite often is.  Your possible fix is a clean install of the new wallet and recover your old wallet from a saved wallet.dat file as I described previously.

I believe its a problem that occurs with the Windows updates - if you are behind some things stop working properly sometimes - if you do the updates then some things change and don't work properly.

They seem to be identical - from a check of the file list and sizes (I downloaded it 5 days ago and it checks against the one released yesterday).

So I don't think you need to reinstall again - but Steven may confirm.

@Steven

You are probably already on to this:

But you need to have a chat to Cryptsy (and the other exchanges - BUT especially Cryptsy) about the new wallet and Nov 1 changes to UTC.  Mullick is generally the person at Cryptsy in charge of this.

No doubt Cryptsy will do their normal "wallet down for maintenance" trick around 1 Nov.  With a new wallet out already - they could do it sooner.

Cryptsy have a very poor reputation for getting wallets back online fast. 2-3 weeks is fast for them. Staking wallets are longer cos they can stake a profit while sleeping and extending delays.  DEM is now down 4-5 months or maybe more with working wallets available and used on other exchanges.

UTC holders need to think about if they want to risk having UTC trapped on Cryptsy.  Generally its a negative.

Maybe this will come to nothing - but at least be aware of the potential happenings over the next few weeks/months.

Yes, this is the same update that has been up for a couple of days. I just wanted to wait until the GitHub repository was up before making the official announcement. So there is no need to update if you did indeed install latest version.

@usukan

You're absolutely right, I did contact the exchanges plus coinpayments this morning to have them update their wallet software. Cryptsy is notorious for taking a long time to inspect new wallet software and have them go live. Last time was around 2 weeks, I will do whatever I can to have them finish it on time, even if it means driving all the way up to West Palm Beach and buying the whole team dinner just to get them to expedite it.

+ 1

GO UTC TEAM. GO !!!!

The signs in the normal economics world are green and positive.
So the cryptcoin world will follow soon upwarts !

Hmmm, do you really think it is the teams fault ?

I remember they did a lot.
They invest a lot of private time.
They Invest a lot of private bitcoins for multiple purposes and developments.
They made it possible to participate at two large and  different crypto exhibitions.
They arranged before the first exhibition a lot of publicity.
They stayed positive and developed a new website and as I understand Steven and Kracko are still busy in the background with developments.

I think the problem is not the team but the market.
So many coins.
Serious coins and scam coins.
Next to that, the whole crypto market is since the beginning of 2014 in minor.
All the big coins are still down...for a long time... so why could do UTC it better then the rest ?

Next to that, don’t forget that a bank or an institution has a lot of investors and investing funds and payed professionals to do the job.
Every day again.
In this case the team invested private money and time and did everything next to their daily job and family.
For non professionals who did it all allone and by them selfs i give them applause.

And last but not least….
Onley a view good community members did helped from time to time the coin.
The rest sat leaning back and thought they could get rich quick.
A part of them were onley wining and crying, stalking and trolling.
They did nothing for the coin and did dent helped the team.
My advice for you dear pugman and for your "buddies" : Cry like a little cheerleader girl or better, look in the mirror and ask yourself some serious questions instead of blaming the team.

For me, I am not happy how things go.
But I accept how things went till now.
I have to.
I am bagholder and stay a bagholder and wish for better times.
I did invest in UTC, from the start, fully aware of all the risks. 100% aware.
And if not, if there comes no better time for UTC, than I accept it and I take my loss.
Without crying and blaming someone else !

I'm also selling 4 x R9 280X Sapphire GPU's with aftermarket coolers (Arctic Accelero's) which bring the temperature and noise down CONSIDERABLY over stock. I have upgraded to R9 290X's so I no longer have any need for them (they've been sitting around for almost a year). I'll even throw in an UTC t-shirt in the deal, asking $500 for the set of 4 plus shipping.

P.S. Ultracoin t-shirts are still available for those interested.

just means putting your password on it.  Add password.

It means if anyone were to compromise your comuter and manage to steal your wallet.dat file - they would need to know the password to be able to steal your coins.

If you have no password (ie not encrypted) anyone with your wallet.dat file can reconstruct your wallet in a few minutes and steal your coins.

Make sure you back up - save your wallet AFTER you add your password (not before).  Otherwise your backup won't work.
