Actually, the fact that so many alts have heated up in price and Monero hasn't followed suit seems to speak to me somewhat about its stability and the reluctance of pumpers to make their moves on this coin. This stability is a good thing and XMR is my next alt to start collecting (I only have 2!)

It should be higher then it is now I think

I think you just articulated the very definition of a good investment.

Stop and think about how surreal this situation really is. I bought into Monero when it was $1.60 and now it's up > 20X, yet I catch myself sometimes thinking I have missed the boat somehow.

I don't feel like I am missing out, because when xmrbtc is declining, I buy xmr, and when xmrbtc is rising, I sell xmr.  Not with the majority of my xmr, but with about 2% of it, lately.  The result has been that each time xmr hits a new ATH, my MtM net worth outperforms anything else I have seen running over 3 years.  Including eth.  Key is to have a discipline: Don't sell into a falling market, or buy into a rising one.

I do not know of anything in the history of assets that has come close to the recent run-up in some cryptos. This dwarfs the South Sea bubble and the Dutch tulip mania and the dotcom bubble. Monero by itself dwarfs those bubbles but some others dwarf Monero.

The south sea company was worth more than global GDP.  To day that would mean $50 trillion.  It was the first and largest ponzi, with backing of parliament and king.

Tulips had negligible moneyness. Monero has perfected moneyness.  The value proposition of Monero plausibly runs into the trillions, unlike tulips or ponzi shares.  I did not say "probably".  I said "plausibly".  If you are not accounting for that possibility, you are not deciding rationally.

I would be interested to know what features suffice to motivate your interest in others.

Was there some information released recently that showed that like 40% of XMR transactions were compromised? If so can anybody explain the details, I heard a few rumors about it but haven't been able to find solid information on it.

Every coin on cmcap with a little exception from Monero just went full retard. Never go full retard someone said once. Bad things await us.
BTW Jaxx gonna try again to integrate Monero.

I follow regularly Monero reddit but haven't heard such things. Where did you hear that? From the competition or from the ignorant competition? Which one?

Don't forget to vote for the btcc integration: https://twitter.com/bobbyclee/status/865851769116475392

Like I said I only heard rumors about it and never actually found any solid information. Guess it was only a rumor. I was just looking for clarification.

Greek tax  authorities are planning on opening safe deposit boxes looking for taxable assets.

http://www.ekathimerini.com/218576/article/ekathimerini/business/tax-authorities-to-chase-undeclared-properties

Somehow I doubt that they will neglect to check the blockchain for Bitcoin assets.

Also, this idea that somehow crypto is inherently more vulnerable than bank accounts simply has to die:

Was there some information released recently that showed that like 40% of XMR transactions were compromised? If so can anybody explain the details, I heard a few rumors about it but haven't been able to find solid information on it.

I don't recall the percentages, but some proportion of transactions before 2016 are potentially linkable with asymptotic probability.  This is a notion of compromise which is unlike the notion of a compromised transaction in, e.g. Bitcoin, where, by this standard ~100% of all transactions are "compromised".  Transactions on the monero blockchain today are not subject to a similar linking analysis.

You can read all about it on the Monero Labs page:

https://lab.getmonero.org

Okay, that would probably be what the rumor I heard was based on. Thanks for the clarification.

You can find answers at this link: https://getmonero.org/2017/04/19/an-unofficial-response-to-an-empirical-analysis-of-linkability.html

tl;dr is there is no cryptocurrency that is 100% anonymous but current iteration of Monero is close and getting better. Take a look at a transaction in a Monero block explorer.

Okay, that would probably be what the rumor I heard was based on. Thanks for the clarification.

https://lab.getmonero.org provides the facts in excruciating detail.  If you can propagate the facts back up the rumor chain, it would help everyone involved to avoid misinformation.

It also suggests to me that I should move my cold storage to a new wallet once every year or two - which is probably a good idea in any case, due to software evolution in general.

Yeah, and I do that too as the price has been moving up... split-out balance amounts to more addresses, so that there's never "too much" in dollar terms worth of XMR on any one address.

That way there's a lesser 'high value target' for attempt to attack any one account/address, for lower return on investment. Not worth the effort, in other words (hopefully...)

Of course, that means if Monero ever hits $1 million a coin I'll have a bigger problem dealing with thousands of mnemonics and addresses, etc

But I suppose if that ever happens I'll be able to afford to hire a money manager to help me deal with it, LOL
