How slow can you run an s7? Going for cool, quiet. Have it at 550 now, 40% fan.

400 no worries 28 to 33% fan
Excellent.
3.2TH now quiet as a mouse. Probably pulling 4 amps at 240v

Glad my rentals were not rented yesterday. Most of them were rolling back to here. Good to see green again. Paying off nicely.

Another green block, no 5 of the day

It is smoking hot on the pool and in NJ it will be 100f today so hot to hot makes the blocks.
115f  feels like in VA
Was going to sell a few s7's but by cranking them down to 400mhz I can run them in the basement.
Don't really get much for them.
If one goes belly up in the datacenter I can just crank the basement unit speed back up and replace.

good let me know how the the 400 setting at say 35% fan works.

I had success with s-7's as low as freq 300-320  and fans at 25%

with this heat you do the best you can

Just curious, how much power is the machine drawing at that speed? Is it worth running or is it using more electricity than it can come close to returning. I guess if you have VERY cheap power just about anything is profit. But for most of us (me anyway), running the S7 at normal speed, at this coin price, was making some profit, but not much. (I know, people were running the S7 when coin price was in the $200's)

Just wondering if you are cutting the hash speed down to 3.2TH, are you seeing that ratio of power use decrease?
Thanks! Smiley

Was out for a while...just saw this and wanted to "ditto." Found this was the case with my S7s as well, before shipping them off.

It's a beautiful day in paradise this morning...and with blocks to boot. Mine on!  Cool

To infinity and beyond...on two 741s and one of only 3...nope, make that 4...full nodes in Hawaii...on <30A. (I have other gear on the Hoth ice planet)

no but maybe.

if you have older s-7's  batches 1 to 7 there is a sweet spot that will get you to .248 watts on a plat psu

a freq 600 to about freq 550    on a batch one will drop you to maybe .248 watts a gh. say from .255 watts a gh

but going lower   to freq 400 and the fan/controllers work against you since they grab a certain amount of juice.  and you drift back up to .255 watts

again.  most of my testing was done on older s-7s from batches 1 to 7.

the newer gear is different   it is ups as high as .278 watts  and with tweaking can go to .24 watts but you need to program a chip  sidehack has done some work with this

Have a fluke meter but I need access to one of the hots on the 240v circuit to get an amp reading.
Either take the plate off the breaker panel or put a small extension cord with a L6-30P to L6-30R and get
access to one of the hots. At any rate I will check and update when I get a sec.

I have all batch ones. 4.86th.  I dropped the freq from 600 to 400. The hashrate went from 4.8 to 3.2.
So if everything is down a third I figure 6amps to 4amps at 208v
Or about 1200watts to 800watts but I will make sure with the fluke.

I have four S7's just sitting in the coin room unplugged. I don't currently have ANY place at all to plug them in. I'm all out of outlets in the coin room, no other rooms to conveniently put them, no basement, the attic is a few degrees cooler than the surface of the sun... Wink

If the coin price would jump up a few hundred, I might consider plugging in a few, very under-clocked as you mention, in the dinning room. I could probably stand it if they were making a tidy sum. Smiley

Thanks for that info. Very helpful in deciding if they are worth running vs. power consumption. Mine are batch 7 and up. I even have one of the single fan models. (Which has always run well and not hot.)

EDIT: Who turned off the block valve? Smiley

Have 3 running now, one in hot garage and two in cool basement.
Heat and noise identical to an s3. Was surprised.
Fans at 2500, 400mhz 40% fan , temp 50c in basement temp 58c in hot garage.
I smell a block...
