Was able to snap this pic of bitcoin today.

Bitcoin Fact: the price of bitcoin will not be greater than $70k for more than 25 consecutive days at any point in the rest of recorded human history.

So if I'm seeing this right..... Market sells are executing in the low 100's and market buys are executing around 150... and there is nothing in the middle??

yes that's what the manipulators realised - noone places fixed price orders when the lag is large as noone knows what the price will be when their trade is executed, and they could have wasted their 30 minutes putting in an offer at 190 and market is then at 170.  It's then another 30 minute wait to cancel /correct the order.

So to be sure they hit sell at market. Similarly for the buy side, who, however are considerably more relaxed about it and perhaps willing to wait and see where things settle down.

The result is the aged order book of day old or more orders is what is mostly filling the panic sells and the price keeps going down. The bid ask spread just gets wider.

It's criminal that Gox permit this stupid state of affairs. They are being deliberately overwhelmed by bots placing little orders everywhere - not necessary for the bots to trade.

You can make a fortune selling near a shaky top in size, immediately placing a bid for same amount 20 percent lower, and forcing gox to lag like hell.

The winners are the manipulators and gox's bank account. The losers are gox's reputation, the panic sellers, and bitcoins reputation for stability.

It went down because the damn 0.001 bot kept spamming down for hours and scaring already fearful traders. The bot owners bid are probably all being sold into right now and he is laughing his head off.

Ares, that's exactly how i feel.

Anyway, on clark moody the lag is fine for me, every time it hits 10secs it seems to reset, the person trying to push the price down might find themselves screwed if they try to sell when people can actually buy back. We just saw real resistance at $150

Hi everyone, just a quick update on the situation and what happened last night.

First of all we would like to reassure you but no we were not last night victim of a DDoS but instead victim of our own success!

Indeed the rather astonishing amount of new account opened in the last few days added to the existing one plus the number of trade made a huge impact on the overall system that started to lag. As expected in such situation people started to panic, started to sell Bitcoin in mass (Panic Sale) resulting in an increase of trade that ultimately froze the trade engine!

To give you an idea of how impressive things were here are some numbers that we would love to share with you guys:
- The number of trades executed triple in the last 24hrs.
- The number of new account opened went from 60k for March alone to 75k new account created for the first few days of April! We now have roughly 20,000 new accounts created each day.

Due to these facts we have been busy working on improving things since last week and our team has been working around the clock to improve Mt.Gox to catch up with the demand. We will continue to release several updates today and in the coming few days to improve our system overall performance.

Also please note that we may have to close the exchange for two hours in the next 12 to 24hrs to add several new servers to our system.

Thank you for your understanding and continuous support!

Good news is lots more bids than asks.

I honestly don't know any more. All I know is that I don't think its going below 110 any time soon and thats where i've got all my coins at Smiley

Lets look at it this way: The chances (assuming chances of more buys coming in and more sells coming in) of going above $260 again and gowng below $100 seem to be ~ the same. Seen in that light, everything seems pretty dandy at least from my point of view.

they seem to be trying REALLY hard to lag the system but actually gox is holding just now, so hopefully they woke up and have done something.

the forums were lagging like mad for me all day, and sometimes the forums didn't respond at all.

is it because of to many people hitting the forums all at once?

or was it DDOS...

is their a way to distinguish between DDOS and a million noobs hitting refresh?
