Does seem a little odd to produce a device slower than a good (2 year old) GPU or FPGA device.
Yes I do realise the chips in both ASICs (ASICMINER and Avalon) are slower than a good GPU or FPGA, but the point of them is that there are lots and cost less per MH/s and use less power per MH/s
Connecting 10 devices to a computer via USB is gonna be problematic for some - USB cables need to be good quality and so do the hubs There are a lot of cheap crappy USB hubs out there - especially when the hubs need to supply power to 10 devices ...

Its not slower. Devices are not measured in MH/s, they are measured in MH/s per watt. That device uses 2.5 watts. A GPU that does 300 mhash uses 125-150 watts. The reason GPUs are becoming unprofitable is not because they are slow, but because cost of power usage exceeds the value of the coins.

ya know, at current difficulty, these make about .66 btc a month. at the current exchange (122 on gox, yea, i know. been a wild week.) that means, even at a cost of $75 per unit, they'd pay themselves off in a month.
the only problem i see, looking at this, is that with that width and height of the heatsink, it would be impossible to get two of them side by side without skipping a usb port.

The amazing thing about small products is that you can charge a lot more hashrate wise. People want a cute USB ASIC miner, and even if it's four times the price per MH as other ASIC offerings or what there will still be a lot of people who buy it.
My God. You must be one of those marketing geniuses about which we hear so much. By far the cutest thing I have ever seen. When can I buy a dozen?
Q.E.D. AM should play this to the hilt. PenguinMiner, PandaMiner, etc.

It's kinda obvious this isn't designed to connect 10 via USB. Cool gift to a friend, "my first ASIC", etc.

A device like that is so unmesurably good. It's not just a good thing if you are an ASICMINER shareholder. With such little USB-miners the Network could become more decentralised than in best GPU-mining times. And with the right software every (sorry) idiot could just stick it in his Laptop and mine away a little on P2Pool while he is working or whatever. Friedcat you just blew my mind... again The future is bright

Q.E.D. AM should play this to the hilt. PenguinMiner, PandaMiner, etc. That would be awesome! I definitely support this idea (only if it doesn't add too much to the cost) but for people who know nothing about bitcoin that would definitely be a good conversation starter for it.

I'd buy one if they're under $50.
You want 300Mh/s for $50? That's called a 5830.

1) this pic made me have the same warm-fuzzy feeling as when I first saw the Atari Lynx. 2) I would obviously love to buy 100 of them 3) iCEBREAKER just kills it with every post, I was also thinking cute & funny USB cases. Also shout the aluminum super-case. Any shot these would work in one of those powered USB strips? Could you line an entire room with them? 10x 10 spot USB strips, 10x of these cute little guys hashing away?

@friedcat or anyone with ASIC... I'm going to be "on air" in polish largest business tv station... CNBC TVN But they have a hard time to believe that ASICMINER or AVALON ASIC exist... and how it looks... May I ask some of you... just 1 or 2 people - to make a picture, please... holding a piece of paper with
"for Satoshi.pl and CNBC TVN" ?If 1 of you could make a small video... it would be even cooler... It would be great to show something like this in TV... Thank you and cheers

You want 300Mh/s for $50? That's called a 5830. These would be far easier to manage. I personally would rather deal with the logistics of powering 15 300 MH/s 2.5w USB sticks than powering my 7 650 MH/s 275w HD 5970s.

Hard to believe that ASICMINER doesn't exist when you can watch their hash power: http://www.btcguild.com/halloffame.php It's the big one. ;-) ASICMINER has not sold any devices yet, all of their ASICs are mining for the company. There are pictures of the boards somewhere in this thread.

I keep forgetting about ASICMINER, because I frequent the Custom Hardware subforum. Also, if I want to find out who's said what when about ASICMINER, I balk at the thought of wading through a 160 page thread.
When ASICMINER finally do start making their ASICs available to the buying public, will they please please please start a new thread in Custom Hardware? I'm getting sick of BFL this and Avalon that and NewScammer the other.

Its not slower Yes it is. You're basically saying that a hybrid car is not slower than a ferrari because cars are measured in L/100km. Having other favourable qualities does not mean that this unit is not slower than a GPU.

This is an excellent idea! I agree that 300mh/s is not much, but the majority of people using bitcoins right now are newcomers. For most, one or two of these things will suffice and get them into the mining game with little risk and hassle. As long as they are priced accordingly, these things will sell like hotcakes! If ASICMiner limits purchase quantities to 1-3 devices, they could help tremendously in decentralizing the network.
Good luck guys, and kudos for waiting to sell before the product is fully developed. Count me in for a couple.
