Reminder / Update

ThickAsThieves, VJain, Franktank and myself have put together the next round of questions for the community to vote on.

Once we have a consensus of the top three questions, ThickAsThieves will submit them to Friedcat.

The last round was a big success, so we will continue doing this for the foreseeable future.

The questions are available for voting here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1M7wigyDWjKjabHKdC7msaEfXvYaNxtMbbmTIRss8EqU/viewform

If there is a question that is not listed, please let us know and we will discuss adding it.

Thank you!  I know the community appreciates it and I bet it saves friedcat a lot of time.

question number (#1) one what Bitfountain is everyone buying into here...thanks ir

Care to rephrase as a complete sentence? This is not comprehensible.

Care reformulating the question and giving the answer to everybody?

Monero's privacy and therefore fungibility are MUCH stronger than Bitcoin's.
This makes Monero a better candidate to deserve the term "digital cash".

Care to stop feeding this troll? Look at his recent posts in this thread. Pure troll with no information (said he got AM's REAL website address) and no wit.

So question should have been:

"Which Bitfountain does ASICMINER belong to, as there is more than one?"

Is this weeks mining dividend still right around what the last few have been even with the low hash rate over the last couple days?

Can someone tell me what the last 4-5 weeks dividends were for mining alone?

Thanks!!

it doesnt seem up to date for this week since it is showing just over .012 but it should make it halfway up to the .016 line. THank you very much for the graph but do you also know how often it is updated?

Much appreciated.

Ahahah! I would be too scared to just think about it Smiley

Back to topic.
I'd like to know what you guys think about the next specs. KnC aims at going straight to very high-technology chips (28nm), way ahead of existing ones at the moment. (Please don't start saying it's not sure they will do, that's not the point here, I wrote "aims at").
If Friedcat announces soon the specs of gen 2, and they are below this.

  • Would it be a serious concern? For which reason, immediate damages to "reputation of leader"? Longer term concerns?
  • Would it be fine because on the other hand it is cheaper to produce and has some advantages, and we can wait for gen3 (4?...) to get closer to state-of-the-art chips? (you know, like the CPU you're using to read this, what we're heading to anyway on the long term)

In short, I believe the ASIC market now is still a proto-market, sooner or later it will be way more competitive, do you think AM to remain the leader needs to be on the technological edge at any moment or not necessary?

Thanks for ignoring me, I was the first response after you asked for questions:
I nominate a query about mining a small amount on p2pool in order to keep it finding at least a block a day.  In fact, with p2pool, if they are able to mine more efficiently than the average, they can potentially earn more than solo mining.

P2pool currently has a 30.2 hour average block time.  Helping keep p2pool alive is beneficial to the community and if the operators can achieve lower latency than the average the payout should beat solo mining[1].

While no idea is perfect, some ideas are useful.

There already exist companies working with chips on "better" technology at this exact moment -- Avalon (110nm) and BFL (65nm). So far they have been more an example of how not to approach this business rather than a threat. In the short term, it seems it's quite obviously a case of "size doesn't matter, but what you do with it": proper management, execution and customer service weigh a lot more towards success compared to the technology of the chips.

In the long term, there will come a point when the utter gains in efficiency of better chips will make up for the incompetence of all these competitors -- and it is quite possible that a new and so far unproven company comes up with both the tech and the execution to "take the crown"; it's happened before in very competitive fields. At that point, ASICMiner should be ready with an answer -- but rushing towards the latest and greatest in process nodes might not be that answer. Keep in mind that the more recent/small a process node is, the more difficult and expensive it becomes to work with. The tools are more expensive, the companies providing wafers are fewer, chips take longer to design and any mistakes cost more in both time and money. Personally I believe keeping at least one or two generations "behind" the latest would yield a the optimal balance of cost vs. performance and power consumption, but of course that's something for ASICMiner to evaluate themselves.
