how efficient is AM's chips compare to competitors? seem a lot of grumbling about the efficiency.

the already produced equipment is sunk cost.  efficiency ensure positive cash flow (BTC in USD minus electricity price) - esp with BTC down quite a bit from the 650 level.

Not very efficient at all... 800GH tubes using 930 watts.  Bitmain and SP-Tech use well under 1 watt per GH.

Very true, their hardware (both 28nm, I believe?) are more efficient than AM's current offerings; there's no doubt about that. However, the S3 isn't available for shipping until Sept 20th and SP30/31 are in September "Batch 2." AM hardware can be obtained within a week and will have roughly a 2-3 week head start.

I believe the AM hardware is also cheaper. Given the life expectancy of this generation of miners, these factors make the moderate difference in operating efficiency relatively moot.

Well last I checked the group buy did not sell very many...and most people have issues.  As of right now you can only use them on 1 or 2 pools...

Also you can't keep ants or SP in stock for a reason.

I do not understand why friedcat did not offer a packaged item such as previously done: the Asicminer usb miners were a commercial success despite being overpriced hashing-power-wise. Antminers are easy, simple and reliable - Sexy little miners even. Meanwhile I don't get any of that for our latest miners and it worries me  Undecided

My theory: simplicity & ease of use trumps efficiency when it comes to mining market penetration - most of us would rather deal with something slightly slower if it means less tweaking to get it running. The current miners being sold have had poor reception - why not consider an overhaul?
I would love for friedcat to have one Single Product for sale to the general public ("Just Add PowerTM")- while dealing privately with commercial mining farms. I feel this would sell, like the Asicminer cube & usb miner did.

I was about to buy a few of these, but I looked at both the announcement thread and the group buy thread. Price is good, but you have to factor in local shipping, self-assembly, network configuration, and at least 1 person reported hardware issues. Most importantly, it can only be used to mine on one pool, which is not only unhealthy for the overall network, but gives miners less freedom. I ultimately did not get any for these reasons.

Either you own the bitcoins(private keys) or you don't. However with moneroj, nobody knows what you own.

Have you read the update for Round 2 Sales? Assembly is now free.
Do you live in China? Shipping is free to anywhere except mainland China.

Also, there are instructions there on "How to run on pools other than ghash.io and btcguild with Raspberry PI and bfgminer".

Likely because now a single chip can't mine much?

I'm going to say this again.

We can purchase many advertising spots throughout the forum if we pool BTC together. We can help the company, it is what we invested in after all. Why not try to help it as much as possible? How many shareholders are there? If everyone pooled 0.01 BTC we would have more than enough to buy out all add space on the forum. I was really hoping to get the ball rolling by purchasing dogie's add slot. Does anybody agree with this or am I crazy?

sent a PM to hl5460 asking when they were expecting to have the interview up (wasn't trying to rush them, just wanted to know if it was going to be like the bitell interview/non-interview).

Quote
Our guy just came back to the office this morning. We will rush him to produce the feedbacks.

Just curious if they got back to you yet since it's been a day kind of curious since the last few interview dates went by but no one knew where they were released from.

I haven't tried to contact them again and they haven't sent anything else to me.
Give them a couple of days to write/edit whatever. Don't know how long it normally takes.

I have no problem with you purchasing advertising spots for AM (as a shareholder I even encourage you to do so), but in my opinion it's not really our job, it's the companies'.

Most importantly, it can only be used to mine on one pool,

Which pool(s) must it be used to mine on? Wouldn't this be an indication that the self-mining is proceeding with these pools?

Is this limitation because of the hardware, the controller, or ...?

ghash.io is the only pool working last I checked...the issue is the controller software sucks.

You're crazy.  AM has already purchased ads with dogie as well as the bitcointalk.org forum and the signature space of 30 bitcointalk.org users.
