I have a small calendar at home, that kind where you remove the files as days pass. On one side of its files you can find important events which occurred in the past, while on the back side you may find some very interesting short writings. By pure chance, after I removed a file of this calendar I found an article on its page, which relates so much to our campaign of improving the posts quality in our local boards. And this campaign, in fact, vouches for the correct use of our mother languages. The author of the article is unknown, signing it as "T.C.Z.". But, whoever this T.C.Z., is, he is so right with what he's saying! I tried to translate the small article below, adapting as much as I could the Romanian idiomatic words in English. Although I could not fully adapt it, as some words make sense only in Romanian, I believe everybody will get the meaning. At World Linguistic Congress it's a debate about the differences between how you spell and how you write words. French say: "Most spectacular French word is beaucoup. It has 8 letters but you pronounce only 4 sounds, bocu.". English people say: "In our language, most spectacular word is enough, which you pronounce as inaf. A single letter becomes a phonem. Romanians say: "In Romanian, coolest word is poftim ( n.b. poftim can be used for "here you are" and also for "what?"; the article refers to the lattest meaning). You spell it as p-o-f-t-i-m and you pronounce it as - Ăă? ( n.b. this is a funny riddle, "Ăă?" meaning a sort of "Whaaaat?" ). Joke aside, things are not looking well. Just like in all other languages, we imported words and expressions which do not have an equivalent in Romanian, mostly being technical words: soft, hard, hard disk, mouse. However, without any proper justification, we also imported words which have Romanian equivalents: human resources, backstage, fashion. We also have abbreviations: prof ( n.b. like the proff as short of professor), [...] mate, geogra ( n.b. similar to Math or Geogra used as short for Mathematics and Geography). Will we say one day ap instead of appartament, [...] or off instead of office? And then we have acronyms stolen from English: FYI, BTW, ASAP etc.. Speaking of which, if we are in such a hurry (or we are so lazy at writing) RPD would be 25% shorter than ASAP ( n.b. RPD is (abusively) used as short for repede, which means fast)! The peaceful principle saying that "The language is a living phenomena" is a debatable one: terrorists are also a living phenomena. So are the sharks. Or real estate sharks. And so are also foolishness, cowardice or malice... This does not mean we accept them. And the idea that "The habit wins over the rule" is really a language killer. Am acasa un calendar, din care rupi fiulele pe masura ce trec zilele. Pe antetul foilor sunt date interesante petrecute in zilele respective iar pe verso, de multe ori, se regasesc articole interesante. Am gasit intamplator un astfel de articol, care are legatura cu campania de imbunatatire a calitatii postarilor in sectiunile locale, campanie ce se refera, in principiu, la folosirea corecta a limbii materne. Nu stiu cine este autorul articolului, acesta semnand cu "T.C.Z.". Dar, indiferent cine este acest T.C.Z., are mare dreptate cu ce spune! Iata, mai jos, continutul micului articol de pe pagina de calendar: La Congresul mondial de lingvistica se discuta despre disonantele dintre fonetica si grafie. Francezii spun "La noi, cel mai spectaculos cuvant este beaucoup. Se scrie cu 8 litere si se pronunta doar 4 sunete, bocu.". Englezii spun: "La noi este enough, care se pronunta inaf. O singura litera devine fonem.". Romanii spun: "La noi, cel mai tare cuvant este poftim. Se scrie p-o-f-t-i-m si se citeste - Ăă?.
Lasand gluma la o parte, lucrurile nu stau prea bine. Avem, ca toata lumea, importuri inevitabile de cuvinte si expresii fara echivalent in limba romana, in general din zona tehnica: soft, hard, hard disk, mouse. Am importat insa, fara nicio justificare, cuvinte si expresii cu echivalent 100% in romana: human resources, backstage, fashion.
Avem prescurtari: prof, diriga, mag, cas, mate, geogra. O sa spunem intr-o zi ap in loc de apartament, mas in loc de masina ori serv in loc de serviciu?
Avem, in fine, acronime furate din engleza: FYI, BTW, ASAP etc.. Intre noi fie vorba, daca tot suntem asa grabiti (sau lenesi la scris), RPD ar fi cu 25% mai scurt decat ASAP!
Principiul impaciuitorist ca "Limba e un fenomen viu" e discutabil: si teroristii sunt un fenomen viu. Si rechinii. Si rechinii imobiliari. Si prostia, lasitatea, rautatea etc.. Asta nu-nseamna ca e musai sa le acceptam. Iar "Uzanta bate norma" este de-a dreptul criminal de limba: inseamna ca pana la urma vom accepta "cartea care am citit-o"? |

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but some may want them as collectibles, especially the first few batches. And then sweeping makes them much less interesting. Indeed, I also believe that the fans of collectibles would be very interested about these cards. Regarding the possibility of sweeping them, considering the value of 0.001 BTC, I would not be tempted to move the funds from such card, if I were the owner of it. However, those fearing of being " yogged" may try this as well. But the value is not too big, at least now (perhaps I would have a different mindset if BTC would reach $1M ) so I would take the risk and keep the card as it is. The scenario of having the cards swept by someone else is a very unlikely one, but everyone is free to have a different opinion here. ...I tried to think on scenarios where keeping the funds there makes most sense. And for such scenarios OP can come reassuring the people, although we all know: some will trust the issuer and some may be picky. It will be up to the winners to decide how they'll proceed. But I would keep the card like it is. It is really nice to have Bitcoin-related collectibles and I am always trying to improve my collection. It is very important to spread among many languages these historic documents which opened the path for free cryptography, private communications and, ultimately, for Bitcoin!
If I may add, those who are interested to read a much longer piece by this visionary, he also wrote The Cyphernomicon, a Cypherpunks FAQ, but not the official one as he clearly stated there. He also wrote True Nyms and Crypto Anarchy. These documents are also very important for all those which shared Cypherpunk's vision and ideology. I read them both in the past, but I could not find True Nyms online... But I knew there was a book containing this essay. I am talking about Vernor Vinge's True Names and I searched a lot for finding this book. May's True Nyms is in the opening of the book and I was really fascinated while reading his essay. But thank you for sharing this online version of this essay, which I could never find before! |

Finally, together with one of the forum users, we have almost completed work on the creation of UniJoin custom cards. These cards look very nice and I am sure that the winners will be very happy for being the owners of such cards! I am eagerly waiting for the moment you'll make the raffle!
At same time, regarding the questions asked by some other users, 1. How does the winner spend the BTC. Do they receive the physical card and the Private key/seeds? Card design looks cool but I am little concerned about private keys with products like this, and how/when are they generated. I believe that these questions were asked after the drama provoked by yogg, which swept all the Cold Cards he issued. Knowing that such unfortunate incident happened once, it is normal to be afraid that it can happen again. I guess UniJoin can better answer here. However, a measure for eliminating the fear would be to move the funds immediately after receiving the cards. |

Let's say 2 DT1-users have no inclusions from other DT1-members [...] Lol  Thanks for point out this impossible edge-case scenario. Obviously, I did not have something like that in mind. But I believe that some tweaks can be added in order to avoid such situation, if a change would be made. nutildah also has a point when he says that meeting the criteria for DT1 (which includes the ability to "vote" via inclusions/exclusions) is a separate status from having DT1 powers. Probably I did not come up with the best idea but in my mind there is still a contradiction regarding the current state of the system -- meaning the fact that you still have some DT1 powers although you are excluded from DT1... |

I don't quite understand the addition of Timelord2067 to DT1. There are about 7 DT1s that trust him and about 17 that distrust him. Didn't he drop out of DT2 because of that? See Default trust breakdown: he has DT1 Strength (-12), which means his feedback isn't shown by default. But he can still vote for other DT1-members (up or down). I know that Trust system works this way but I don't think it is 100% fair, to say so... The system is made, in fact by 3 components: 1. Be eligible to be elected 2. The monthly random shuffle 3. The inclusions and exclusions, which have the power to overrule the monthly reshuffle. Practically, these 3 components are complementary to each other and work as a whole. So in this case, after a monthly reshuffle we have user A included in DT1, as he was eligible to be part of DT1. At same time though, he has more exclusions than inclusions (from other DT1 users), therefore he is automatically out of DT, although the reshuffle placed him there. Practically, the vote of majority took him out. In this case, I don't consider it's fair to allow this user to still have the power of voting for other DT members, as he was, actually, removed from DT by the votes of those excluding him (which was greater than the ones including him). What I'm trying to say is that, although (1) a user is eligible to be part of DT1 and (2) the system nominated him as DT1 (by the monthly reshuffle), then if he is cast out by the vote of majority (more exclusions than inclusions) then his voting powers should be also eliminated. Why should he have the power to vote if he is not part of DT? |

Hey Porf, I spotted 2 small errors in the list of translations in progress. Are you si kind, please, to fix them? I listed them below. Translations IN PROGRESS: Bengali language appears twice inside the list of translations for fillippone's 5 Resources to teach Average Joe about Bitcoin. Inside the list of translations for the second topic the hyperlink of the Filipino translation redirects to a post from fillippone's topic, not to the Filipino translation. I hope this helps. |

I proposed, a while ago, a board dedicated to historic and educational topics. Some users agreed with my proposal, while others made other suggestions (either make more sticky topics or they considered the topics listed by me are placed in the right board already). However, I still have this idea in mind, about a board which could host all these topics which are part of Bitcoin history or those which can educate users. Other than that, I keep seeing requests for various local boards. I don't know the needs of the users speaking those languages but I belive that, in some cases, since they make such requests, a local board would help them more in developing a local community on the forum. As a Romanian I am more than happy to know that Romanians have a local board, which is also pretty well structured, containing sub-boards for Marketplace, Important Announcements, Mining, Tutorials, Altcoins, Press, Offtopic and Welcome. Perhaps it's not the most complex local board from the forum but it suits very well the needs of Romanian users. What I'm trying to say is that I understand the feeling of those which want to have a local board for their language and I hope that in the future we'll see more local boards on the forum. |

The promotion of mixers, gambling or casinos does not obstruct anyhow the discussion about Bitcoin, technology or crypto at large. Obviously, OP is too new on the forum and makes allegations without any sense. If OP wants to participate to any technical discussion he is always free to do it, no matter if the other participants wear any signature or not. How can the presence of a signature obstruct a discussion? I really don't get that. Furthermore, and I don't know if anyone else observed this, OP just started this thread and never came back with any reply. It seems simply ridiculous to initiate a discussion thread, complaining about how to discuss and then never make any post inside your own thread. I guess it's common sense to debate inside the topic you started, since it was your interest to start it but OP is probably lacking this common sense. |
