1061  Other / Meta / Re: Merit source and top merit earners on: July 25, 2023, 06:59:10 AM
Merit sources are focusing with those accounts or even those top merit rankers in the forum. Merit distribution isn't really that fair and I'm assuming that they are building their own sockpuppets to solo out and milk out signature campaigns that requires accounts that have lots of merit counts.

Merit sources are chosen after an application where they have to meet some criteria.

1. Be a somewhat established member.
2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

The application is not a formality and I know plenty of good forum contributors which applied for this position without receiving it. So those which are merit sources have to do a really good job in order to be elected.

Furthermore, merit spending is not moderated. Each user may send his merits to whoever he wants and in whatever amount he wants (being limited by the 50 merits / month to a unique user limit and by the limit of the amount of his sMerits). So far I only witnessed one case where a merit source was accused of abusing his powers and that user was demoted from merit source position. So actions are taken in case of abuses.

OP, if you can point the finger to someone directly, do it so and bring proof for your statement.

Other than that, since it was only one case of a merit source demoted for abusing his power, I am certain that merit sources are doing their job just fine. (There were other cases of demoted merit sources, but not for abuses. This happened when the user became inactive or did not use the sMerits received for being a merit source.)
1062  Other / Meta / Re: Icopress ' Merit Source Application on: July 24, 2023, 12:30:34 PM
I totally support icopress' application for becoming a merit source. He is a very good forum contributor, known for organizing BitcoinTalk Community Awards contest since 2020. At same time, he is also one of the oldest campaign managers of the forum and he manages these campaigns with a strong hand. So far I did not hear about any complaints about him regarding his managerial skills, therefore he must be doing a great job.

And, since being a campaign manager means also to know and follow forum rules very well; and also to properly seek and appreciate quality posts -- these are a very strong point for him for being accepted as merit source. Other than that, as he already mentioned in OP, he already sent 2500 merits to other users. Furthermore, according to bpip, he is the 34th most merited user (and, at same time, he is on 26th place on the ladder of users with most earned merits) and 68th most trusted. Such stats should tell a lot about very very good contributions, taking also into consideration that he reached such stats out of more than 3.5M users of the forum!

Good luck, padawan! May your application be accepted!

fruktik please be aware that multiple posts in a row are not allowed. According to Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules,

32. Posting multiple posts in a row (excluding bumps and reserved posts by the thread starter) is not allowed.

As a consequence, your second post in a row will be either deleted or merged by the moderator with the earlier one. It depends from mod to mod -- some delete them and some merge such posts. In any case, you should pay attention to this rule in the future and, at same time, since I already gave you that topic for reference, maybe you should read the entire set of rules. I hope this helps.
1064  Other / Meta / Re: How Can We Identify Someone Who Uses AI? on: July 24, 2023, 10:05:51 AM
I have mixed feelings about the possibility of detecting correctly AI generated text in all cases. I know 2 forum users which were incorrectly accused of using AI for their posts (one case is the one from here). While a (one) website was detecting AI generated posts in their cases, 3 other websites were saying that their posts were written by a human.

AI generated posts are, indeed, a problem, since many can use it for reaching their campaign quotas and also for obtaining not deserved merits. So some action against such cases is more than welcome, such as nutildah did. Besides, some campaign managers are also actively looking for AI generated posts.

However, since this madness technology is somehow recent, the tools for properly detecting it are not flawless and they may lead to false accusations. At same time, a broken tool is better than no tool at all so, at least, there is a way for combating this new way of cheating the system. Therefore, since the tools used are not flawless, I believe that best approach is to treat these accusations case by case, try each time using more websites for detecting the AI and not just one, allow the users to defend themselves and to present proof in their favor and so on.

What I'm trying to say is that, since this technology is here and there is nothing that can be done about that, let's not always jump to conclusions and let's make a thorough analysis for each accusation.
1065  Other / Meta / Re: Is it okay to create an off-topic discussion thread? on: July 24, 2023, 09:53:26 AM
I noticed that many suggested OP to post in Off-topic board. But, however, this is not what OP asked. Let's reread his question:

what if I create a discussion thread where the rules in the discussion thread allow off-topic discussion. Is that okay?

I needed to reread this for a few times until I came out with some logical answer. Practically, OP does not want to make a topic suitable for Off-topic board. In Off-topic board you can discuss

Off-topic - "Other topics that might be of interest to bitcoiners"

But this is not what OP wants.

Instead, OP wants to create a topic where to instate a rule allowing off-topic posts. And, after consulting forum rules again, this is forbidden:

2. No off-topic posts.

So even if the topic is created by you, OP; even if you set your own rule allowing off-topic posts -- your rule can not overrule forum rules (be it a unofficial set of rules). So the answer is no, you can not create such thread.

Topics which belongs to Off-topic boards can be moved to that board through user reports too.
Whenever I visit the board, I end up reporting some "insubstantial topics", which then get deleted. There's rarely anything interesting for Bitcoiners.

Oh, you don't think that such topics are interesting?

My prediction is 29.731$.

Thank you, OP! Let's hope that this contest won't be fake, like the ones organized by Rbah and Mitch212.

1068  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me translate my best posts in your Local Board on: July 23, 2023, 08:18:09 AM
As always, you have sensible ideas.
Thread removed.
I will reinstate it if something change on thei side.

I am more than glad to hear that my idea was helpful! Regarding the lattest part, I believe there are very low chances for shitcoins.club to remove KYC. In fact, I believe that all cash-in / cash-pit crypto ATMs will migrate to KYC, if they are not already applying it. I made some research at the beginning of the year and, in Romania, excepting the ATMs from BitcoinRomania, all were using KYC. Some do not even exist anymore (like the ones from ProHash) and the ones still functioning are using KYC (I mean the ones from ATM Bytes, BitMahavi and shitcoins.club).

However, even the ATMs of BitcoinRomania are soon to be doomed supposed to apply KYC (if they haven't already) as a new law was issued in Romania, forcing all crypto ATM operators to apply KYC. Perhaps the most ridiculous part of this law is the one coercing crypto exchanges to use Romania bank accounts for performing their operations. This aspect is ridiculous because Romanian banks are not crypto friendly at all. All banks are closing the accounts of those using them for crypto incomes. So they are practically forcing crypto exchanges to have Romanian bank accounts while, at same time, banks are closing all the accounts involved in crypto incomes...

I will quote below how one of biggest banks in Romania treats its clients regarding crypto incomes and also a reaction of one client toward bank's abuses:

And, in case you still have doubts about what I described so far, the below screenshot proves the way one of Romania's biggest bank treats its clients:

Translated in English, it means the following:

Quote
Within the business relation the bank has with its clients, the bank is forced to follow the laws related to knowing their clients with the purpose of preventing and combating money laundering, financing terrorism and for following the General Business Conditions (GBC) for the entire clients portfolio.

According to GBC, to the regulation 2/2019 of National Bank of Romania and the Law 129/2019, the client has the responsibility to provide the Bank all the documents requested by the Bank, which are needed for verification and clarification of the purpose and the nature of the recorded transactions. Through this document, we let you know that, after analyzing the transactions realized from your account, we decided the typology of these transactions breaks art. 23.1 from GBC, which states the following: "In case the Bank identifies potential risks or some requests coerced by financial institutions implied in banking operations, the Bank reserves its right to not allow transfers for transactions linked to services such as gambling, acquisition of pornographic services (including videochat or similar services), acquisition of weapons/munition without complying to the conditions stated by the law, transactions involving cryptocurrencies.

Below you can read the reaction of a client of the above mentioned bank. You may laugh, but the situation should be treated seriously:

Translated in English, it means the following:

Quote
Subject: Justification signed by [...] in order to explain what I'm doing with my own money

I [...] being a client of the bank, I sign the present document being forced by the Bank, which invokes some internal regulations which are not against me, in order to coerce me to justify in front of the Bank what I'm doing with my own money.

Given the fact that it is summer and a period of vacation, considering it is also a post-quarantine period, I want very much to have fun. For doing so, I'll travel to Holland, where prostitution is LEGAL, in order to fu*k some whores. Most likely, on my way to Holland, I'll do the same in Austria and Germany.
Then, while being in Holland, given the fact that drugs are LEGAL, I intend to smoke some marijuana and hashish, but I'd also try some shrooms.
I heard they have some good marijuana cakes in Holland, and I also suggest you to try them, maybe you wake up and stop forcing people to sign stupid papers, based on stupid procedures, in order to justify to you what they're doing with their own money.
Obviously, if I won't have toilet paper, given the fact that I have so much money, maybe I'll fancy enough and I'll wipe my a*s clean with a few hundreds of euros, like rich men do.
The rest of the money is for lending them to my friends and for making useless expenditures, which I'll regret afterwards.

The quote was taken from my topic 12 years later and people still don't know to use Bitcoin nor what it's good for and, perhaps, time actually came for bitcoiners to make the final step against governments and start using Bitcoin in the was it was meant by Satoshi: fully peer-to-peer and anonymous!

cygan, I also like your flowery style!

cygan is delicate like a flower!  Roll Eyes

I will finish #meritslife:... before the other one I previously reserved about securing the seed phrase with washers: I will need some more time to translate the latter, as it is longer and recent changes in my life reduced drastically my free time.

Securing the seed phrase with washers is longer indeed, but it's not that long though... it only seems very long due to its numerous images. However, it requires some more work than "#meritslife" topic. But the ones really hardcore are those from "Everything you want to know [...]" series and the one related to Stock-to-Flow model.
1069  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me translate my best posts in your Local Board on: July 22, 2023, 09:46:10 AM
Please do not translate the thread about ATM's anymore. It's not relevant as the ATM company embraced KYC; so it's pretty unuseful for buying and selling.
I won't add any more thranslation of this thread.

Hey fillippone! Perhaps it would be better to completely remove that topic from OP? This way, if it is not listed there, nobody would be tempted to translate it. Keeping it there, although you added that disclaimer, will not avoid this possibility. As you know, there are many users which don't properly read the content of a topic (I mean line by line) and they may miss your observation.

Another idea would be to list it at the bottom of the OP. This way it would draw less attention to those which do not properly read the OP line by line. This sounds like hiding this topic in plain sight, but it is an alternative from eliminating it from OP.
1070  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me translate my best posts in your Local Board on: July 22, 2023, 09:21:22 AM
Yesterday I translated a paragraph of it, and I was talking with my wife about a line of your topic: "if there is not any entity to harm them, people choose on their own to harm themselves"

You use some words that are universal truths. I believe your topics deserve more appreciation for how much effort you gave to write them and gather those historical data.

Thank you for your kind words, Learn Bitcoin. Well... aren't things so? Meaning that people always do fool stuff to harm themselves, although there is nobody looking to harm them...? Yes, this is a universal truth... For example, when wars started in ancient times and people saw how much damage a war can do to individuals, to countries, to everybody -- what did they do? Did they stop wars? No. Instead, they invented the helmets to not crush their heads so easily...

Imagine someone reading your topic in the 22nd century and thanking you for writing these posts.

Blushing  Roll Eyes Let's hope that our forum will last until then...

I want to take this opportunity to let you know that I will take a little more time than usual to translate the topic. I hope you don't mind.

Yup, sure, no worry. Take as much time as needed.

At same time, Learn Bitcoin reserved the Bengali translation for the second most difficult topic from the list:

If I may share my opinion, I would rather suggest you to try something more related to the service activity -- which is BTC mixing. Maybe create some avatars with small guys with anonymous faces (maybe having faces similar to this one or faces wearing Guy Fawkes masks) which are holding mixers, blenders or kitchen mixing tools in their hands?

I, for one, don't see any connection between the avatars from the above section and the service itself...

I know, it may be a difficult work, but I am sure that such avatars would be appreciated.

OK. Și mulțumesc pentru suport!

Oricand Smiley

Chiar interesant! M-am înscris, deși s-ar putea să fie cam târziu. Mulțumesc!

Sa fie cu noroc!

I see it like that in the original topic and in the Russian translation :

I just realized that I have a solution for all those willing to translate fillippone's topic There are 2^256 private keys out there: how big is that number?. I already posted that inside fillippone's thread but, for more visibility, I am sharing this information here as well:

As you probably observed, there is a corrupt image inside the topic and fillippone can not fix the image link, as the topic is locked. However, since I translated this topic long before the apparition of the issues with imgur links, I managed to add the image to the translated topic. After the forum did not display images from imgur I simply changed the link of the image, thus it is still shown in my topic:

You can use the image link from above and add it to your translations. I hope this helps.

So, if nobody complaints, we will add dansus021 as a new member in our OP.

I agree with the proposal and I am congratulating dansus021 for joining the gang! He also translated 2 of my topics and I am very pleased by his service!

Other than that, I am wondering where is iwantmyhomepaidwithbtc2 our friendly new gang member which wants to buy a second village with BTC. I did not see him in a while...

1080  Other / Archival / Re: 🌀 [banned mixer] - CoinJoin Mixer | Your Anonymity Is Our Priority! on: July 19, 2023, 06:55:23 AM
Thank you for this update, UniJoin! And I am more than glad to see that many users appreciate the information shared in the blog posts!

At same time, at UniJoin's suggestion, I am posting below the review which I made for them in April 2023:

Premium review and suggestion spreadsheet#10

1. The first impression the website offered me was that it looks too crowded. Chosen colors are relaxing the eyes, but the homepage, to say the least, is overcrowded.

2. On the homepage there is a banner showing various companies (Yahoo!, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Money, Cryptonews etc.) but the banner has no explanation to state why those companies are listed there. Perhaps they are partners on UniJoin, but, even so, there should be an indication for that (something like "Official Partners"). Moreover, when clicking on Yahoo! name, the displayed page is not Yahoo!'s homepage, but Yahoo! News homepage. Maybe this name should be replaced with Yahoo! News.

3. If the above mentioned banner is a list of official partners, then maybe it can be mentioned at the bottom of the page, for making homepage look less crowded.

4. When switching the website localization to Chinese, from the button placed on the top-right of homepage, China's flag is not displayed. Besides, the "N" from "CN" is also not entirely displayed.

5. Another element of overcrowding the website is the presence of "Start Mixing" / "Mix Now" buttons, which appear everywhere. On home page these buttons appear in four places: on top-right corner of homepage, under the "Make your Crypto Finances Untraceable" title (both being on the upper area of homepage), under "Use UniJoin To Anonymize Your Cryptos" title and under "Your Anonymity Is Our Priority" title (both being on the lower area of homepage). Besides, when accessing any area of the website by clicking its various buttons, on each section there is again a "Start Mixing" or "Mix Now" button. Example: click on the buttons from the top of homepage - Why UniJoin, Referral, Pricing, FAQ, Blog, Contact Us. On each of these pages there is a "Start Mixing" / "Mix Now" button. It seems somehow pushy for the user, like the website cares only for mixing coins and thus it tries to determine the user to click on mixing buttons on absolutely any area of the website. Perhaps it would be a better idea to have the button displayed only once or twice on homepage and to be removed from the other website sections, thus having a section of the website dedicated to mixing the coins. As comparison, image an email provider homepage where you would see in 4 places on the homepage the fields for entering user / password. Furthermore, there is an inconsistency regarding the name of these buttons, as in one place the name is "Start Mixing" and in another place the name is "Mix Now". Perhaps, for consistency matters, all these buttons could have a unique name.

6. When the user starts the mixing process, on the page named "One Last Step Before Mixing Your Coins!" is a field named "Order Status Link". The URL written there appears truncated. Perhaps the respective field can be enlarged a bit, thus the entire URL is visible?

7. Still on the "One Last Step Before Mixing Your Coins!" page, there is a warning, saying "If no funds are received within the remaining time, this link will be deleted [...]". However, there is no time counter displayed there.

8. Transfer-wise, the system is working on its basic parameters, meaning that I successfully received my mixed funds with the default delay time. However, I would suggest to have this test performed on various settings of delayed time, in order to be sure that it works properly on any amount of time set as delay.

9. Other than these, I tested the website menu functionality and all buttons are working.

10. Localization-wise, I would advise to UniJoin to try to recruit natives from all the languages in which the website is localized, in order to perform a full proofreading check and spot all translation problems. Seriousness in writing, having no typos, having all the text localized not by translating the words, but also idiomatic, may be crucial in giving a first good impression to website visitors. Otherwise, if many grammar / typos are encountered on various localizations, users may think that the website admins are illiterate and they may lose their enthusiasm in using the services. So far I searched the text only on English localization and it looks fine, but I can not say anything about any other language supported by the website, as I don't speak the respective languages.

I will end here this feedback, but I will come back in case I will find any other bug on the website or in case I'll have more suggestions.

Congratulations, UniJoin!
