1061  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor firmware update on: June 03, 2020, 09:33:53 PM
Saleem Rashid strikes again. He IS a hardware wallet.

I guess I should've expected an endless stream of niggles and holes with hardware wallets, but it still surprises me when yet another pops up. At least it's reassuring that there are many eyes out there scrutinising these things. I'm waiting for the Big One though.
1062  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixers become more and more popular for the darknet on: June 03, 2020, 02:27:59 PM
Honestly I don't understand why darknet users can't use better privacy coins that leave no traces when you make transactions from one address to another, Bitcoin wasn't build with privacy in mind, correct me if you think I'm wrong

Because they're lazy.

I too expected everyone to be on XMR by now, it's far too easy to slip up with Bitcoin and lord knows what surveillance tools they have that they're keeping to themselves, but even if you're a loathsome druggist convenience still wins out for many.

With Monero you have to work harder to convert it, there's far less wallet choice and you're exposed to even more volatility. I'd still put up with that over a billion years in prison though.

1063  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-06-01] McAfee backs down from wild Bitcoin $1 million price prediction on: June 03, 2020, 01:47:42 PM
I guess McAfee already sold his soul fully to shilling shitcoins even prior to him making this tweet.

He never had a soul to start with. He knew a hype when he saw it and knew he had a few factors that would turn on crypto fans enough - a mild degree of fame already, ancient track record, lots of guns, lots of squalid habits.

Everyone knows he's full of shit, as does he. Everyone still pays attention. I'd probably do the same given the opportunity apart from attempting to put some nominal effort at credibility in.
1064  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is bitcoin not anonymous? on: June 03, 2020, 01:41:50 PM
If Bitcoin were are impenetrable as Monero I'm pretty certain it would not have been allowed to flourish in the way it has by governments. We'll see a point where all proper privacy coins aren't allowed anywhere near regulated exchanges. Coinbase's latest UK banking partner made getting rid of Zcash a condition of them coming on board and that's not even that convincingly private.

I wonder whether Satoshi consciously made complete privacy something you have to work at or he couldn't be arsed to add it or decided it was someone else's problem in future. P2P cash without the total anonymity that cash has seems quite an oversight.
1065  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-06-01] McAfee backs down from wild Bitcoin $1 million price prediction on: June 02, 2020, 07:48:58 PM
It looks like he's talking to himself, because no one apart from him believed his nonsense about $1 million. And when you start talking to yourself, well, maybe it's time to retire. Smiley

They certainly talked about it and that's the only reason it was spouted. It means he can charge more next time to be a shitcoin 'adviser'

Since he's been rubbing himself all over the crypto space for several years now it would be helpful if he'd actually achieved something by now. Literally anything is better than the nothing I'm detecting.
1066  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 02, 2020, 07:44:06 PM
Man, that was back in the 80ies. Now a top 100 WTA player destroys a mediocre ITF male player.

You should know better than to discuss feminoids with 'him', or anyone who is not his magisterial self.
1067  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: June 02, 2020, 03:07:03 PM
They responded to my ticket and said that I had insufficient founds on my USD card to cover the monthly fee.

That's weird. Mine's been kept empty for months on end and they haven't said anything. I stick some money on there and disappear again. I assumed if you keep it empty the fees back up until it's loaded again. Seems onerous to keep freezing and reopening.
1068  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Thoughts on changelly on: June 02, 2020, 10:41:55 AM
Changelly exchange rates are insane, too much, in 2017 it wasn't really like this but now I can't use their service anymore simply because of their rates, I've never lost any token using changelly so that's say much about it's safety but rates are way too much

It depends on the coin. Sometimes it's tolerable, other times it's been not too far off double the market rate. They just go and buy on Bittrex on your behalf, or that's what they've said in the past, so they have quite a bit of stacking to do on top to make anything from you.
1069  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 01, 2020, 02:41:35 PM
I have always dreamed of being in a gang. For too long my chicken legs, concave chest, fevered panting and micropenis have been the subject of persecution. Now the boot is on the other foot and it's time to round on someone else.

Kill, lash out, stomp, maim, disfigure.

GET HIM.

I'll be hiding round the corner if you need me.
1070  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud mining - why? on: June 01, 2020, 02:02:00 PM
The first thing many newcomers ask is 'how do I start mining?' If they ask that they get told it's an impossibility for the average person.

Then they see cloud mining and think 'hey, this is where the real money is and I don't have to do any work. I can't believe more people aren't doing it. I've got one over on everyone else.'

They pour in and wind up with nothing. If they'd bothered to ask about cloud mining they would be told almost all of them are ponzis but many are not inclined to ask after the first time they're told where they're going wrong.

The people selling it know how that's how many a mind works and they certainly know how to exploit it.
1071  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitmex Warning: Withdrawals suspended. Banned from Chat. Over 100 Bitcoins stuck on: June 01, 2020, 01:44:46 PM
You can report the posts to the moderator on the bottom right and add your reason why you're reporting it. Whether they'll bother or give any type of shit is another matter. If you think they're dodgy maybe living it where it is will help others.
1072  Economy / Speculation / Re: Grayscale Buys 800% More Bitcoin Compared to Q1 2019 on: June 01, 2020, 09:46:26 AM
This may be just speculation, but it makes sense if we think logically, although the idea of reverse transactions is something that most today would not accept when it comes to Bitcoin. Obviously, it will no longer be just a question of investing in BTC, but also of verifying the origin of such coins.

If that takes hold then Bitcoin is dead meat.

I can imagine 100% radioactive coins are nothing but a liability but they already are. I can imagine totally virgin coins will have a placebo premium for some and they already do. Anything beyond those two extremes rapidly becomes totally unworkable.

I'm sure some will attempt this. They ain't getting far and everyone will truck past them.
1073  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Thoughts on changelly on: May 31, 2020, 09:27:23 PM
It's the KYC that scares users away from these exchanges and this Changelly is just one that asks KYC.

A reputable exchange asks for KYC upfront and that's it. A disreputable one like Changelly springs it on you whenever it feels like it and uses it as an excuse to hide behind. Monero users in particular have had a lot of trouble and Changelly have openly stated they will keep your money if you don't satisfy them.

Some say they're owned by the same people as Minergate/Bytecoin/Freewallet/HitBTC and and others and the latter two have the exact same MO so it's possible.
1074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: so what to do with USDT ?! on: May 31, 2020, 07:36:51 PM
That sucks. Its a good thing though that there is https://www.binance.com/en/trade/USDC_USDT  I guess this still is an option and then send USDC to coinbase. Price doesn't have much difference unless he gets to have a hundred thousands that need to be sent.

Coinbase would be crazyheads to give USDT their full endorsement. It's far, far too sketchy and their investors would probably tear them a new one. They would probably love to as there's a shit ton of money to be made with it but that's a shitcoin too far for them.

They unquestionably list crappier stuff but at least they're transparently crap.

Can you sell your USDT for paypal USD?   I'd probably be one of the user who will buy and that's straight going to you account which you can directly sent to your bank too.

Yes. But you would be mad to do it. It's probably against Paypal's terms, but the much bigger likelihood is the Paypal buyer initiating a charge back and you finish up with nothing. No one sells Bitcoin for Paypal who's sane for the same reasons. Bitcoin is not reversible. Paypal certainly is.
1075  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: so what to do with USDT ?! on: May 31, 2020, 07:23:23 PM
Coinbase supports USDT.

No it does not.

Coinbase custody have just announced you can deposit and withdraw ERC20 based USDT, but it's only for institutions and there's no mention of exchanging it for anything else.

Coinbase does USDC and DAI.
1076  Economy / Speculation / Re: Grayscale Buys 800% More Bitcoin Compared to Q1 2019 on: May 31, 2020, 07:14:47 PM
This is a really interesting story, not only that someone buys large quantities of BTC, but that they currently buys more than is actually produced. But the key thing is that they do it of course through OTC, and that it still does not affect the quantities available on the market, so there is no price pumping.

The halving changes the OTC landscape too. OTC buyers who previously bought from miners will be squeezed and will have to look elsewhere. Miners who previously dumped on exchanges, and there must have been a few, will find OTC buyers seeking them out. I expect far fewer mined coins will reach the open market from now on. There's no need.

It's going to add up eventually and in a significant way. A bitcoin with a giant and urgent electricity bill attached to it is a lot easier to prise out of an owner's hands than one they bought some time ago.
1077  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: May 31, 2020, 07:08:02 PM
There is (also) a problem: various services need "fast" transactions, the most wide spread may be the withdrawal from exchanges (customer trust, lack of options in the software like "I'm not in a hurry, but let me have the extra $), but also certain payments need confirmations.. faster than one week.

Good point. At some point that variability stops being a quirk that some explain away and becomes a flat out impediment to normal operations. I'll guess that's one of the prime reasons Blockstream got Liquid going but I've no idea whether it'll ever have any private uptake and it might end up worse than normal banking in terms of onerousness for all I know.

LNs had better get their skates on as otherwise it's going to be centralised services all the way. So far I have not been compelled to sample it.
1078  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is getting rich quickly! on: May 31, 2020, 06:40:19 PM
What happened in 2013 also happened in 2017. It's an interval of 4 years. The same is expected to happen in 2021. It's the after effect of Bitcoin halving. From record, Bitcoin soars out of reach a year after every halving.

Well, fingers crossed, eh.

These are officially weird times so anything could happen. The signs are there for some explosive action in the next couple of years but it requires enough flush people to follow through and make it a reality.

You can't plan your future around a cycle that's only happened twice so far. Third time lucky maybe.
1079  Economy / Speculation / Re: Double bottom @ 3.1k or lower low @ 2k? on: May 31, 2020, 03:49:54 PM
People dream too much and so is the reason view that the price would dump before a big rally. If they stop considering bitcoin as magic way to make money then they will stop having these wild dreams  Cheesy.

It starts off being what you actually think will happen, then becomes what you want to happen and then you jettison all reason and desire and set your mind on 'it WILL happen' just because you've spent so long nurturing this belief.

We've seen it a million times on here and they almost always balls up and go silent.

They could well be right eventually but the chances are high they're so fixated that they screw up long before the actual event with a premature move. An open mind and willingness to go with the tide is prerequisite for success at this type of thing.
1080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: May 31, 2020, 03:42:23 PM
You are late. Right now 1 sat/vbyte is good again.
And you should read more. The fee is completely unrelated to the quantity or value of the coins sent.

But some day that will be a fond memory for good. I'm interested to see how many people readjust their expectations and are happy to wait for less cost rather than it having to be NOW. Either way the broke will need a solution that isn't widespread at the moment. Could be LNs, could be something else.
