1101  Economy / Speculation / Re: Grayscale Buys 800% More Bitcoin Compared to Q1 2019 on: May 29, 2020, 01:48:44 PM
These stats are slowly starting to be talked about more. I'm surprised it's taken this long to sink in.

I've often maintained this halving will be the one we remember above all because of figures like this. One company, with one product has demand enough to eat more than the production rate. And there aren't really any other comparable players at the moment.

Imagine if there had been multiple ETF approvals by now. I don't believe there will be an ETF for many years to come but I expect there'll be bypasses, kludges and direct ownership from other players.

Grayscale could be geniuses, they could be goats, but it's a glimpse of a future that not enough people have bothered to think through properly.
1102  Economy / Economics / Re: If Recession Kicks In, How Will Bitcoin Perform? on: May 29, 2020, 01:33:56 PM
2008 wasn't staring in your face quite the same way this is. There was a vast amount of turmoil but whole industries weren't turning to dust in front of your eyes.

At the same time the elites are pulling further away from the little people than ever before and markets have less relation to underlying reality than at any other time. Many normal people did not benefit from the never ending stock boom of the last few years. That could repeat in an even more stark manner this time.

If more big money chooses to play with BTC it might latch on to that la la land.

Whatever happens the little guy is unlikely to be driving anything this time.
1103  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance: accusations of insider trading on: May 29, 2020, 09:50:06 AM
If a DEX has access to their customers' wallets, then they aren't a DEX. I know there are plenty of exchanges which call themselves DEXs or peer-to-peer or hybrid exchanges or other attractive sounding words, but if you need to hand over control of your coins to a "trusted" third party then that is a centralized exchange.

Aye. That would not be a Dex but nothing is until there's something either in wallet or on chain. They should bill themselves as non custodial exchanges.

The Dex's I've come across are still centralised websites showing you a number that may be totally fictional. They could be selling you their funds and similar for the person at the other end of the trade.
1104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: May 29, 2020, 09:26:51 AM
I totally don't get all the whining here. If you haven't realized the true value of bitcoin in 2020 you should be neither be able to hold some nor discussing about fees.
Use whatever other crypto you like but forget about btc

Bellowing 'tough' and then leaning back in your throne to grab a chicken leg and grouch about your gout lacks a certain grace.

It would be nice to see more education on the subject, perhaps inside wallets themselves. More people should know that if you're prepared to wait you can pay a lot less. I'll assume many believe it's the 'big' fee or nothing still.

And newcomers have probably never been exposed to a dynamic marketplace of this nature before. Telling them why it exists could be helpful. Who knows what the fee market will look like in future but it'll certainly not be what most people arriving from elsewhere are used to.

1105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Taxes on Bitcoins: Unreasonable or essential? on: May 28, 2020, 11:51:45 AM
Why the hell should Bitcoin get a pass? Because it's 'special?'

Everyone and everything is special. I've seen people write 'I shouldn't pay any tax because I took a risk' or 'I shouldn't pay any tax because it's on the internet.'

No one else gives a shit about your tale of investing adventure. They pay tax on things they risked their arses on too, often MUCH more risk. You made a profit. Cough up.

Bitcoin in the UK is taxed like every other similar entity - foreign currency, stocks etc. It's dull but that's how I fully expect it to be. If you're lucky enough to live in a place where it's not taxed then good for you and I hope it lasts.

1106  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: May 28, 2020, 09:16:20 AM
The house of cards is falling hard!

The sad thing is that this probably won't have any effect on price. That reflects on how stupid and shameless market participants are. The chicken fiddler recognised Craigy as an opportunity to make a splash and he got the job done. Now it's established enough to no longer matter what happens to him.
1107  Economy / Exchanges / Re: From UK, Understanding Investing Jargon help on: May 27, 2020, 06:05:06 PM
Is there a way to save the QR code without having the new phone nearby?

Most phones should have some sort of screen shot/capture function. Mine does it holding down the power and volume down button. I'm not sure how keen I'd be to leave something like that on a phone for any period of time though. That's the key to a lot of things.
1108  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 26, 2020, 09:09:40 PM
Tumbleweed.

I was going to keep this between me and the client who commissioned it but it looks like you're cracking up so you need something to give you some strength.

My client requested a portrait of his dream Bitcoin developer and here it is.

I'm probably going to jail for breaking a NDA but if it gets you through the night it was worth it.

1109  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 26, 2020, 03:53:08 PM
Yeah, they want the badger tied up with a short leash.

When Bitcoin searches are at an all time high, Elon Musk is giving away Bitcoin again 1000 times an hour on Twitter and a million new Youtube vids pop up with their drivel every week yet STILL the price is doing nothing is when I'll start to believe it.

Until then I believe we're in the same nothing as 2014/15/16. You can pretend it's on a leash when there's no organic enthusiasm.

I don't doubt that it dictates short term moves, but I can't see how it could defeat a genuine upswell of demand.
1110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin is ...... ? What does your auto fill suggest ? on: May 26, 2020, 03:20:10 PM
Mine's a bit on the negative side.

I must be secretly making hate searches in my sleep. I'm going to have to track my id down and have words with the goddamn thing. Or perhaps I'm blind to the truth it's urging upon me.
1111  Other / Meta / Re: Last of the V8s Merit Source Application on: May 26, 2020, 03:11:36 PM
I don't have a sodding clue what criteria are required to be a merit source but anyone of such heady seniority and commitment who brazenly states they're looking to rank the minnows up gets a Delta IV up the arse from me.

I would very much like to be bothered to do it myself, but I am not.

1112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: May 26, 2020, 02:47:43 PM
There's the 'headline' rate and then there's the rates you can get away with if you're in no hurry. I moved some last night for 12 sats per byte. I was expecting it to take ages but it was all done and dusted within 3 hours.

There'll always be someone in a hurry. If you're not that person then there's still a lot of room to breathe.
1113  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Eidoo's debit card on: May 26, 2020, 01:05:17 PM
Another with a shitcoin attached to it. Why?

If the fees are lower than Coinbase or Wirex I might consider it for pin money. I do wish these places publicised their spreads, or said whether there's one present, as that often eats a shit ton more money than any headline fee. Wirex's spread adds about 0.5-0.7% but they don't mention it anywhere.
1114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So it looks like Cobra is planning on passing on the Bitcoin.org domain on: May 26, 2020, 10:26:15 AM
And what'll happen to bitcoin when that day comes?

We're all going to die of course.

Perhaps you're better off taking a breather from this scene for a bit? You don't seem to be in a jolly state of mind.

My own personal preference as of this morning would be for a total asshole to take control and turn it into a shithole filled with flashing ads to fully trash it. The sooner it discards any centralised point of influence the better as far as I'm concerned. No one goes to an Android website. They just use it.

1115  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance: accusations of insider trading on: May 26, 2020, 10:05:34 AM
We know it's illegal but if they are doing it and not getting caught, they are certainly making a lot of money, referring to the company as a whole.

Illegal where? It's not as if we know where Binance is based either.

The biggest risk for an exchange's rapeage of customers is the customers finding out and leaving in disgust. Since Binance seems to have a weird psychological grip over its advocates I doubt they're going to be bothered and will head straight back.
1116  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance: accusations of insider trading on: May 26, 2020, 09:38:41 AM
Looks like exchange can dodge this bullet easily.

Is it illegal anywhere in the world? As far as I know it isn't and even the reassuring Coinbase has made moves that stink to high heaven.

I expect if it ever was made illegal Binance would move its 'jurisdiction' to somewhere where it was.
1117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So it looks like Cobra is planning on passing on the Bitcoin.org domain on: May 26, 2020, 09:24:58 AM
I would probably sell it to Binance for like $10 million.

You wish to hand control to a man that wanted to roll back the entire Bitcoin blockchain for the sake of a few millions dollars of coins stolen from them? That's the type of thing you'd expect a zitty little shit who'd had their faucet earnings nicked to say, not a crypto behemoth.

By virtue of your post I also believe that control of the domain should not be handed to you. You're canned, honey.
1118  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: May 26, 2020, 09:17:50 AM
And more confused BSV fans about the Tulip Trust list signing event of today. A compilation."[/i]

Behaviour of this nature always reminds me of this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhCZLa5rbL4&t=26m55s

I dunno whether it's a modern epidemic or not but I'm sure I don't remember this many people wilfully blinding themselves to straightforward facts of all types when I was a nipper.

Not only has he returned from death, he also appears to have returned as a non native English speaker. It certainly must have been one hell of a trip.
1120  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: May 25, 2020, 11:42:39 AM
And the most amazing thing about all of this is - not one BSVtard will be turned.

Craigy could break down their door, sit on their face, mash his phallus and scrotum in their gaping maw as the clinkers rain down shrieking 'I'm a liar. It was all horseshit' and all they'll gasp is '4D chess, dude' and give the thumbs up as his bowels let go.
