Here is the Windows exe with heartbleed patch. No coin control or anything fancy that I did to it, just compiled with newer openssl.

i am getting libwinpthread-1.dll is missing and it won't run

Thats odd I don't have a libwinpthread

This due to compiling with QR_CODE=1 in a non static mode.

I believe  I have that dll in this zip from HBN.

https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/releases/download/1.3.0.0/HoboNickels-1.3.0.0.rar  ( this is an old version so don't use it for HBN)

Tranz I am browsing through your commits on v1.3 for coin control... damn that must have been a lot of work!  I thought it might be easy to add a few of the commits to tek to get coin control going, but the differences in the codes add a lot of debugging time.

Admittedly those commits were a bit of a mess. I combined a few too many things with them.  I would look at PHS or NVC. ORB just did it as well and added the weight as I did just recently.

Have we pinpointed which code syncs to the correct chain with out having to use the download?

No but I can get the orginal code that allows me to sync from start, although it might stop at another point, I can if them correctly.

It compiled and launched now, but now it is stuck syncing with 335931 blocks left.  Not sure if this is the same problem you had Tranz?

After manually downloading the chain and replacing it it syncs, but not on its own. Interesting.

Nice.

Yes this implies there was a hard fork, that is not part of the new code.

Same problem on the github src.

I just get this. When I try to sync.

I don't think the source code release builds well... well at least I am getting a lot of errors.  Using Qt 4.8

I got it to compile, but it wouldn't sync even 1 block. Having this on github would be really great.  So changes can be tracked and development by others is easy. Otherwise it becomes very difficult for version control and code review.

here is the github

and a zipped chain up to 2/24/14 block 245k+ https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0M-bp2HC0eYdXlqc0RQWkFFRnc/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks for the github link.

The Qwindow error was with the machine I was using, my other machine goes through the compile of this linked code and gets caught up on net.o  anyone else getting stuck there?

Your UPNP deploy may not be correct, you don't really need it. You can use the argument USE_UPNP=- in the compile settings. Under projects/build/detail/additional arguments.

Personally I think seeding your wallet with 100-1000 coin blocks, depending on your wallet size, and leaving them stake for a few months before combining them is good.

I both use multiple-wallets and I use different address in the same wallet. Both have advantages and disadvantages.  Just make sure you keep good backups of your newly generated wallets.

Here is how I create a multiple wallet. RPC commands

1) loadwallet newwallet
2) usewallet newwallet keypoolrefill 500
3) usewallet newwallet backupwallet /c/walletbackups

This will create a new wallet called wallet-newallet.dat, then fill it with 500 more keys, then backup it up. This is a good procedure for creating a wallet and making sure it is backed-up right away. With 500 keys, it will be sometime before they are used up. So your backup is good for a while.

These commands can take a min or so, so just be patient.

tranz, what are the keys used for?  only if you generate additional addresses correct, or these are used during transactions?

Yes when you generate a new addresses.  Also when you send and you receive change, it will use a new address from yoru wallet to receive the change.

I was once again able to start HoboNickels-qt with git-952ef63b599b, no more assert failures in GetStakeModifierChecksum.
Or is it just a coincidence?

Glad to hear. Its a good idea to stop the client and take a copy of blk0001.dat and txleveldb, so if something happens in the future you are able to get up to speed quickly!
1111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Version 1.4. Stake For Charity. on: April 28, 2014, 04:20:12 AM
Okay so I tried to combine some of my coins for the first time as I'm starting to have a ton of small chunks of coin. Fortunately I just did a small trial with coin control to start. I selected a few small pieces that added up to about 5 HBN (using coin control) and I sent them to a second wallet I created. The outbound transaction shows in my main wallet and it shows as an inbound transaction in my secondary wallet but there are no confirmations showing up and when I hover over the outbound transaction in my main wallet it says "offline (0 confirmations.)

What the heck does that mean?

Does the transaction show up on the block explorer?   Were you fully up to sync when you combined? You might try to do the menu wallet->checkwallet to see if there are any issues.

Well, I was online and fully synced at the time. It eventually confirmed and went through so frankly I have no idea what happened.

The wallet will resend unconfirmed transactions periodically. So that might have been it.

There is a rpc command resendtx will force it to resend(currently broken will be fixed in v1.5)

big pump n dump today. missed it totally tho Sad(

my HBN journal is all about steady, sustainable profits. Plenty of people won and lost during that pump but remember this, quick buck artist come and go, but its the steady players who make money in any market condition.

If pump and dumps isnt a part of your trading style, then ignore them completely.

2% every ten days?  Grin Sustainable?  Grin

You must be joking Smiley

Pump and dump is your scamming style and you are ... ?   (Insert correct word instead of ...)

It sounds aggressive but when you do the numbers you will see that the monetary expansion is only a few 100 k coins ahead of the PoW target because often very small PoS blocks will crowd out the PoW blocks.

Good points.

Also as the staking difficulty goes up, the interest declines. I guess once there are 8 million coins out there, maybe 1 year from now, the interest rate will be in the 90 percentage.

Kind of weird...  I just tried opening the HBN client to transfer some loot and it crashed with and 'error opening blkindex.dat.  On further inspection there is no blkindex.dat anywhere in the AppData/Roaming/Hobonickels folder.  Wonder what happened to it??  Huh

I don't have blkindex.dat either, but my clients loads and syncs fine. What version of the client are you running and what OS?
Windows 8.1 64bit & HBN 1.4.0.1 (latest)

It has been working just fine until now.  Anyway I just deleted everything (but the wallet  Grin) and have started the download of the blockchain again.  That is interesting you don't have that file either, I guess that is by design, I just assumed it was missing because every other coin I have has that file in the root folder.

Sorry about this, it is a bad error message. When you open 1.4.0.1 for the first time, it attempts to upgrade your index. The index used to be blkindex.dat, but now it is kept in files in the txleveldb directory.  1.4.0.1 adds the block hash to the index, this will decrease start up time quite a bit.

You can also check this page, get up to speed faster.

Thanks, but the problem is not with the version but with the wallet.dat not being readable due to the deamon process not ending properly.

So -salvagewallet is of no help?

so after 2 year you plan on stopping devellopment tranz? or a new plan will pop up?

I won't stop development, but I believe my role will change, much in the same was as Gavin's is now changing for BTC.  But plans are just that, they can be adjusted.
1119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Version 1.4. Stake For Charity. on: April 26, 2014, 03:58:58 PM
Tranz, two weeks ago someone told me to invest in HBN, since I glanced at it thought it was interesting, but didn't do an in depth analysis, well today I finally did that analysis and am terribly sorry that I did not invest in HBN sooner.  The CC's performance, day to day, week after week, and month after month is absolutely stellar, what accounts for that?

There is NO other CC that I see with a performance record like yours, it represents both stability and reliability even while all other CCs are on roller-coasters. please tell me how you are doing it.

Its you guys as much as me.   I think the biggest difference between HBN and other coins, is most who invest in HBN, myself included, are not looking at days or weeks time frame. We are looking at months and years.

I also conduct my self with honesty and integrity.  A bit different then most coins created solely for P&D, or outright scams. In an industry where scams run rampant and unchecked, finding a community that is not participating in that is also a breath of fresh air.

I have a 2 year vision, about where I want to see this go. So far I am about 8 months into it, and about 25% of the way there. So still some work to do.  But this is pretty much it for me, come hell or high water.

Welcome aboard!

2mullick: is it safe now to send/receive HBN to/from Crypsty?

Yes it is. I was able to deposit and withdraw from Cryptsy within the last hour.

Edit: This is a good of post as any to ask...

Tranz, are you accepting stake donation for continued development of HBN? One of the benefits of stake for charity is that small amounts can be donated. You have put forth an enormous amount of work, time and effort into making this one of the best coins around. I would like to contribute to that.

Edit #2: If not, this may be a good charity to be in contact with http://seansoutpost.com/ in order to get the most benefit of stake for charity. It actually fits the name of the coin quite well, and they have done some really awesome things there.

Edit #3: Just reddit messaged the owner of Sean's Outpost:
Quote
Hello,

I was inquiring about you accepting donations in HoboNickels. It is a cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin, with a proof of stake feature. One of the benefits of this coin is that the developer has implemented code in the wallet that allows for stake blocks to donate a small portion of the stake to a wallet of their choosing. This allows a miner who is generating proof of stake blocks to donate small amounts of currency on a regular basis, with minimal effort. I believe that by accepting HoboNickel donations you could further the excellent cause of Sean's Outpost while at the same time providing a holder of HoboNickel a great reason to donate. I hope that you do consider this proposal. If you do believe that this is a good idea, please let me know what your Hobonickel deposit address so that I may update my wallet in order to stake for your cause.

Thank you,

Redacted

Hi Isotactic,  I am not accepting personal donations at this time. But thank you.

We do have a charity page on the main website http://hobonickels.info/donate.php. I have 4 wallets loaded up with 1,000 HBN each and I am donating 50% to each of those address.  I do not control any of those addresses.  See https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/9606-hbn-trouble-shooting-and-user-guide-stake-for-charity/page-2 for using multiple wallets to use for s4c.

Regarding your suggested site.  That would be great to have them on board! Just let us know if they accept and when they have an address listed, and we can see about getting it added to the donation page.

Thanks!
