Up all night trying to figure out BAMT in order to avoid having to go get windows.

Anyone know why my miner just opens up and closes?

What do you mean, "opens up and closes"?

@vesper,

I read this comment on reddit:

R9 270X I squeezed my three up to 503 Khash each last night at 77 degrees. No HW errors. Going to play some more today.

I've hit 500 peak before but it never stayed. I wish he'd left his settings to see what he did, and to know if it was a peak or an average.

RE BAMT 1.3

Newer isn't always better. The main reason 1.3 was released was to included the latest AMD drivers for some R9 cards, and it includes sgminer. This doesn't mean it'll provide you the best hash or most reliable system, because as some are finding out on the BAMT thread, some R9 cards perform better/more stable, with the older drivers. I also question why the author decided to put a dogecoin flash screen in BAMT 1.3. FWIW it's possible to install any mining software you want on BAMT (cgminer, bfgminer, sgminer, etc).

Here's a quick "what I know" breakdown on the versions:

Version / Compatibility / Comments

1.1 - Almost All - Great-to-Excellent for the 7900 series or older cards, known for solid stability. Comes with cgminer 3.1.1, but manually updating cgminer to 3.4.3 makes it even better.

1.2 - 6xxx/7xxx, Some R9 - Excellent for the 7000 series or older cards; Works well with some R9 cards. Comes with cgminer 3.7.2.

1.3 - Some Old / Some R9 - This was released specifically for R9 cards, may not work with others. It's been noted in the BAMT thread that not all R9 cards benefit from this due to driver issues, and might instead run better with 1.2. Comes with sgminer 4.0.0

Basically what I would do is find your "best" settings on a card, and try them across all 3 versions. You might find a card runs better in one version than another.

That and public opinion -- the firearms accessories industry has some of the same issues with banking and credit card processors.  100% legal and licensed small businesses sometimes have issues with basic banking services.

In the current financial world, providing actual banking services is pretty much bottom of the list in priorities, so if theres any hassle, its a no go.

Yeah that bothers me also, as I've run into that situation myself. With some recent rulings against small business refusing to serve customers based on opinion/belief bias, I wonder if such suits will ever come against banks.
1383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: January 28, 2014, 02:42:11 PM
even if congress pushes the banks to accept it will still take a long time so here is a nice place to store all those paper bills while us govt gets their shit together

Maybe...I'm not sure if banks have the right to refuse service to a customer.  For example, "no shoes, no shirt, no service" type thing.  Since the US AG has stated its not illegal for banks to take in this money there's no legal reason why banks shouldn't be taking in this cash...However, I think they're just refusing to offer banking services to the dispenseries to be dicks...ultimately I think greed will win the day as banks stand to make a pretty penny or two off of pot money, so they'll come around.  So yes, until that time there's a small window of opportunity here for crytpos to market hard, develop technologies, and insert themselves into the purchasing process to become the defacto method and supplanting traditional fiat mechansims (cash, credit cards, checks, etc.)

The AG's opinion isn't law. Standing Federal law, which banks generally go by, prevents them from doing it even if they wanted to.
1384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: January 28, 2014, 01:17:43 PM
...Think about the coins worth when dispensaries start dumping their hard earned cash into this because its a federal crime to store the money in a bank...

Actually the US Attorney General, Eric Holder, just came out in a that it's not a crime for banks to take money from legal pot dispenseries.

http://swampland.time.com/2014/01/24/signs-of-a-big-shift-on-u-s-marijuana-regulation/

So now the only thing stopping the pot dispenseries, is simply the banks themselves not wanting to deal with "drug money"....hypocracy for sure since HSBC and others often launder money for drug cartels and gun runners.

This is a perfect situation for cryptocurrency to be useful in some fashion.

That's awesome dabs, congrats!

Got my 270 MSI rig back online. The burning smell and shutdown issue was a failed power cable. Nothing new and improved wiring couldn't fix.

That sounds cool (excuse the pun). Are you running yours in open enclosures or closed chassis ?

Open, they're on flat plastic shelf racks.

why all my mining Qty is Orphaned??what is the pool doing for our miners?Huh

Please read the Opening Post of this thread. The orphan issue is known and a solution will be in place within a few days. It's unfortunate, but there are still random orphan issues right now.

Hello miners,
After several days of mining TAGs on tagmining.com I have a problem with logging. When I try to log in it says:
Unable to login: Account is locked. Please contact site support.

Do not know what to do? Does anyone have the same problem?

Fuse (above) is the admin, he will fix you soon.

A buddy of mine and I have kicked around the idea of fixing a coin we both like, and this could be it. We have several on the table. I can do some coding, and I have a team of folks at my disposal who could help.

If we do pick this coin, it's not necessarily likely it'll be of any value, more so just to make it functional and fun. But you never know. If that time comes, we'll see. I just have way too many other things going on to even put this on my list.

For now though, I'll be dumping my coins as soon as I get home.
1393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Development on: January 27, 2014, 08:18:39 PM
With due respect you picked the WORST card to base your example on, as I clearly stated above. The R9 290 is the Absolutely WORST designed card when it comes to noise level as well as poorly designed when it comes to cooling. There is a reason my altered card is BOTH quiet and cool (13-20 degrees cooler than stock!!!). The R9 290 is made to run at 95 degrees (or should I say "withstand") as they apparently used the cheapest design possible - which is why they "made it to run" at 95°.

Alpha Tech can EASILY build a fairly quiet rig. The key is in the fans combined with an optimal cooling and air flow design. It is not rocket science and the work has basically already been done. (Just like the aftermarket R9 290 cooling system.)

In this day and age, there is NO reason to have a rig running above 20-25Db's, depending on the level of cooling needed (and perhaps if the overclocking is huge). If we start making these rigs impossible to
keep in houses, we do mining a great disservice imo.

IAS

^- On point. My farm is approaching 25mh and you can't even tell the systems are on.

I put one in my bedroom. My girl can't sleep if so much as an ant walks on the floor and farts, it'll wake her up. She didn't even realize I had a mining rig in the bedroom until I showed her.

Prolimatech MK 26 coolers, Blue Vortex 140mm fans = 18db of mining fury @ 50-65*C overclocked. The only noise you ever hear is the occasional tinge from PSU components heating up and cooling down.
1394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 27, 2014, 08:15:23 PM

Seems a little high to me, but you probably wont find another one. I might actually have a need for that but wont know until I dig deeper. It would hurt me mentally to pay 1000.00 but I would probably do it because of the scarcity.

Regards

Considering Mercury's are going for $1,500-2,000 on ebay, you could just get one of those and use the mining module. Or sell it.

They ran the machine for days on a publically-verifiable pool ... This is old news, discussed like 20 pages back.

another lie.. it was up for like 5mins

Roll Eyes Believe what you want man. I suppose the network hashrate isn't going up either right?

The pool? Yeah..

Might sell or trade my 5 ASUS 270X CU/TOP cards, I'll be figuring that out tonight.

Nothing wrong with them, I just don't like how hard it's been to get them to hash the way I want, and it fluctuates a smidge more than I like (+/- 10kh).

They and the MSI's are the quietest of the bunch, they're great cards.

If I do decide to sell or trade, I will let this thread know first. For trade, I want MSI 270/270X cards, new or used/like-new. If you can't find any, this thread has them, and I would accept a shipment from him as well.

I'll keep you guys updated.

24kilo, this doesn't affect what I'm doing for you, I'm still going to tune yours! Like I said before, I'll do the work on my units, then make sure your units have good settings based on mine.

As far as I and many others understood it, you would only get an increased hashrate if they decide to lower the sale price of the x1 or x3. Had nothing to do with delays or making sure their customers reach positive roi but instead to insure that anyone preordering would receive the best deal they offered if they decided to lower prices which they haven't.

Maybe that was the case, I just know that it was expressed to myself and some others that it was regarding profiting, because the difficulty level 7-8 months down the road was vastly unknown. Folks didn't want to buy in to something which wouldn't make a dime, so they said you would get free hashpower (or discounted hashpower) if the system can't provide ROI+Profit within 45 days of receipt.

I was the first person they contacted to be a US retailer but ended up passing. It was during those discussions that this was expressed, through email but also on here. Somewhere in the first 30 pages I think.
