1481  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] - MS66 .5 Brass Casascius Coin on: June 13, 2015, 06:35:10 AM
My bid of BTC0.75 still stands.

Since you've had no other offers, I think you should reconsider mine.

Thanks.
1482  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bin Laden's porn stash will not be released on: June 13, 2015, 06:31:49 AM
Is this really unsurprising? Locked up in a house 24/7 I'd be surprised if he didn't have any. Would really love to know the titles though haha. They should just leak it. Can't see why they care about keeping it hidden as you think it'd be a great annoyance to jihadis.

Yes, it's "unsurprising", which is why it's worthy of being posted here because it likely would surprise people a bit.
1483  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama making bid to diversify wealthy neighborhoods on: June 13, 2015, 06:28:59 AM

To qualify for certain funds under the regulations, cities would be required to examine patterns of segregation in neighborhoods and develop plans to address it. Those that don’t could see the funds they use to improve blighted neighborhoods disappear, critics of the rule say.

So the goal is to get more diverse neighborhoods, but if the municipality ignores the law they could see the funds used to help poor neighborhoods disappear?

This doesn't make any sense.
1484  Economy / Economics / Re: proof of suggestion, cooperation, listening and-or favour on: June 13, 2015, 06:21:46 AM
coins can be minded that are errors? If there's an error why is the coin mined at all?

I think these coins should just be discarded. If there's no value it'll be hard for you create value for them out of nothing.
1485  Economy / Economics / Re: London has been the most popular location for fintech companies, yet... on: June 13, 2015, 06:16:28 AM
Most popular location in the UK? Europe? Any more details?

Outside of Silicon Valley I could agree that London might be a high fintech location.
1486  Economy / Economics / Re: What U.S. states have the highest and lowest taxes? on: June 13, 2015, 06:13:14 AM
This list doesn't tell us anything. You need to look at the income tax rate per state. Looking at average taxes paid is very misleading. California and New York have much higher incomes than Wyoming or the other "low tax" states.
1487  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy vs EARTH how will be the future? on: June 13, 2015, 06:06:40 AM
Why does the speed of recent technology innovation impact climate change? If anything, wouldn't it limit climate change as better technology becomes impactful on the use of oil and gasoline?
1488  Other / Politics & Society / Re: McDonald’s Is Days From Opening Restaurant Run Entirely By Robots on: June 09, 2015, 07:46:23 PM
What will happen to all the people that want higher minimum wage once fast food goes robot? Who will they protest to give them more money for the entry level work?

This would be great and awful...riots would result, unfortunately.
1489  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are we, bitcoiners good at minding our own business? on: June 09, 2015, 07:42:07 PM
I think the community is mostly minding it's business.

Who are the people identifying low share of female users? I haven't seen those studies. Although I guess I'm not surprised. Does it matter if females don't use bitcoin as much as males? This isn't some social organization, it's a currency or an asset. The relevance is quite low...unless of course the community is trying to recruit more ladies, then I suggest you single Gents get on that!
1490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Are The Financial Elite Saying About Bitcoin? on: June 09, 2015, 07:14:39 AM
I don't think the financial elite, i.e., wealthy, are who we need to be listening to. The wealthy will invest in anything that they think might make them richer - stocks, art, horses, bitcoin, etc.

They have the money to lose in these things for the opportunity, the chance to gain. It doesn't surprise me that the wealthy are in on it. They want every opportunity to make money as we do. It's the financial average or financial poor using it that would really make the difference, the adoption difference.

Any studies on average income and average wealth per user?
1491  Economy / Economics / Re: New idea on how to spread the wealth between simple people and spread bitcoin on: June 09, 2015, 07:08:46 AM
If I may, here are a few more suggestions:

1) Put together a document that explains the objectives you hope to achieve with this project, the mission statement, and some goals
2) Give yourself deadlines to meet those goals and stick to them
3) Get good at explaining your idea, briefly with impact, to strangers...to anyone

You never know when you might meet someone that can help you and if you stumble over what you're trying to do, why it's important, and how it helps the world you may miss opportunities that are falling in you lap.

Let me know if I can help.
1492  Economy / Economics / Re: New idea on how to spread the wealth between simple people and spread bitcoin on: June 09, 2015, 06:13:02 AM
I like the idea a lot, what do you need to get it started?

What are the next steps?
1493  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why ISIS winning in Iraq? on: June 09, 2015, 06:10:15 AM
Because simply America it self is also helping ISIS by providing weapons , and I've seen a lot of videos where Americain planes dropped weapons to ISIS then "woops , we made a mistake" .
Also ISIS leader (or leaders) are trained by mossad & CIA so it's not only the Iraq Army who is well trained .

What's your source on this? I haven't read about this.

The Iraq army was trained by the Americans but it's not like they were trained like a full on army...it was more of militia training. Iraq needs to take control of itself, have the balls to want to fight to save its country (which many of their recruits don't), they need to spend money to build up supplies, arms, and equipment to fight the big fights.

The safety of the region needs to come from within the region. It's time for them to fight for their own survival.

JP,

Welcome to the forum!

There's a lot of good discussion going on and there's a fair amount of fluff conversation going on. Try to involve yourself with the good talk. You mention not wanting to get hoodwinked, you should check out the talk about what Gavin is doing to extend the blockchain size. There's tons of talk about it in the general Bitcoin forum. You'll find good talk in Economy and also Politics and Society. But as with anything, go where your interest takes you.

There's a lot of opportunity to get into some gambling fun, but watch out for ppl trying to scam you out of your hard earned BTC! The marketplace is filled with offers for goods and services for BTC. If you get involved there find a person with positive trust to offer escrow services for you.

The signature campaign is a nice privilege, but know that it is a privilege. If you burn the opportunity posting bullshit posts you'll get that right taken away from you. As a Newbie you might be able to get involved in (although it won't pay much). If you post the equivalent of a post a day (and at least once every two weeks) your activity level will go up one point per day (awarded every two weeks). If you go to the Services Discussion forum you'll find a post on the first 1 or 2 pages about Overview of Bitcoin Signature Campaigns, you can start there.

There's a lot of good stuff here, explore, make posts, enjoy it and try to offer something back.

Good luck to you!

P.S. that yellow font is impossible to read! Very colorful though
1495  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Entangled - Why America must stay engaged in the Middle East on: June 09, 2015, 05:41:45 AM
Yes, if everything you touch turns into horse manure don´t give up, do more of the same. Great advice, just look at Ukraine now.

You're blaming the US for Ukraine's problems, why?

Crimea voted to join Russia, no? What's the problem with that? The US didn't force Russia to invade.
1496  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NYC man robbed of his bitcoins at gunpoint on: June 09, 2015, 05:30:29 AM
Not worth it for BTC5 ($1100)?!?!

Where are all the "to the moon" people declaring that BTC5 will be worth $5,000,000 in 10 years...just about the time these guys will be getting out of jail (if they get caught).

I hope they do catch the guy but it's stupid to meet some stranger to sell your BTC, there are much easier ways to do it!
1497  Economy / Economics / Re: New idea on how to spread the wealth between simple people and spread bitcoin on: June 09, 2015, 05:05:37 AM
How does the wealth distribution component work in this idea?
1498  Other / Politics & Society / Re: You Can Be Prosecuted for Clearing Your Browser History in US on: June 09, 2015, 05:04:02 AM
I don't see anything wrong with this.

The Government can clearly make a case for the suspicion of this guy if he was dining with the two of them within close timing of their terrorist acts. Also, if he deleted his internet browser they could reasonably assume he may have been tampering with evidence.

I'm glad the Government doesn't fuck around when it comes to investigating people who associate with the people who bomb a city in the US. There's zero tolerance for that kind of activity...there should always be zero tolerance for it. Peaceful protests are fine, accepted, celebrated. Violent protests should be prosecuted heavily, make an example out of people who do that stuff.

There's always an option for people who don't like those rules...they could live somewhere else, where they agree with the rules.
1499  Other / Politics & Society / Re: LA Times: Jews control the media, government, and financial system on: June 09, 2015, 04:58:55 AM
Dude, why are you posting this twice?

To the Mod...perhaps it was a mistake, but this should be removed.
1500  Other / Politics & Society / Re: LA Times: Jews control the media, government, and financial system on: June 09, 2015, 04:57:24 AM
Well, I certainly didn't say it a false claim. I just asked why it concerns Dick so much.

Here's an article (blog) that hypothesizes why Jewish Americans are successful in proportions beyond their demographic make up of Americans: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=693851

Some of the comments relate to the Holocaust, and potentially an cultural need to be successful to prove one's self. The writer goes on to say that this is merely a hunch and maybe not a good one at that. He goes on to say that the stereotypes of Jews may be a self fulfilling prophecy. If people think a Jewish person is great at "XYZ" that people give them opportunities or seek them out to do "XYZ".

Who knows?

And the point about the lower representation of African Americans in congress compared to share of population is certainly concerning. Maybe it says something about the opportunities granted to one group of people over another based on where they grow up could have something to play...or even stereotypes.

It's definitely an interesting thing to think about. And perhaps this is why the OP decided to post the article to begin with.
