1561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Open Letter to VCs on: December 14, 2013, 06:42:28 AM
Thank you, for taking a chance on an experiment that we call Bitcoins. When I arrived in my full bitcoin mode to this forum over 1 1/2 years ago, I noticed something about the community if you had a successful site, later or not you become a victim of your own success. Meaning that either you couldn't scale due to funds or you just had no business experience therefore no clue how to take a business from zero to the next level. I know that most sites were helped from community members, but when VCs who deal with this everyday can really guide a lot better you know that businesses are going to explode, no disrespect to the community members here. Today we are getting that experience that was so critical into the businesses we enjoy and so we can enjoy for long time.

So just thank you to all the VCs and all the companies, because whenever I read a story VC gives out funding to a bitcoin company, it gives me that fire inside of me to just keep building, to keep hacking, and to just keep experimenting. I just can't wait to see what happens in the next 6,655,204 Blocks.

1564  Other / Meta / Re: Images now proxied on: December 13, 2013, 11:21:20 PM
It would just be finding somewhere that uses them as Theymos has indicated he's not willing to put any effort into this.

I don't think that is true that all, I just think it is hard to find actual business that does this type of proxing. Remember proxing images isn't easy at all, it takes up a lot of space to cache, bandwidth, and it isn't cheap to run this service. Remember this forum is over 100K+ members and I would say about 65% of post contain some image of some kind. That means you have to have some pretty powerful machines. I would say at least a dedicated server. There is no money that can be made from this service either, it is a very niche situation.

But if anyone has a good dedicated server they are not using, here is the software I built https://github.com/italiano40/image-proxy just requires mysql, php 5+ and ability to add cron jobs, so anyone can host this and try to convince theymos it is the best option if you believe it is.

1567  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help the bitcoin network by being a node. on: December 13, 2013, 06:35:17 PM
but by having bitcoin-qt on your computer you're a node as well right?

Technically yes, but what these people are doing is having servers that are a lot more open than you would do on your computer.

That is insane! This is why I don't have $25 million deals, cause I totally would be rapping illmatic and probably scare him away.
1570  Economy / Services / Re: [PHP] How to create a wallet for BTC, LTC,NMC and other alt coins? on: December 13, 2013, 05:49:17 PM
If you don't know how bitcoin works don't work on this. This is why people get hacked cause people lie about security.
1571  Economy / Auctions / Re: [Twitter] U.S. Republican Party wants this account, but I want to give it to you on: December 13, 2013, 08:38:21 AM
And what happens when twitter steps in and just takes it from you or whoever buys? You know twitter will just give them the handle if they want it that bad, if it does happen now it will happen after they are done waiting. So this is a horrible deal.
1572  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the easiest way to create private/public key pair PROGRAMMATICALLY on: December 13, 2013, 06:52:20 AM
I'm most specifically interested in how mixing services work and how BlockChain's taint analysis works.

Mixing is kinda getting turned upside down, so basically a mixing service is to bring a disconnect between address, but that isn't really that private anymore. Plus they can steal your funds. A new mixing type has been created, which is coinjoin, and it aids more on that you are confusing people, and making it so mixers can't steal your funds. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=279249.0 <<<read that.

Blockchain taint analysis works by doing a search for where two or more addresses are connected meaning they were used in the same transaction.

Use php to connect to bitcoind, and use the rpc command to create the key pair.

Count me in, a poker childboard would be really nice!

I think we need a lot more people to convince either SaltySpitoon (if he has that power, IDK) or theymos.

1577  Other / Off-topic / Bitwall pitching on: December 12, 2013, 06:29:45 AM
http://youtu.be/ikoQLBuIYl0?t=38m25s

WOW, at first when I heard angels and VC saying how bitcoin companies have no idea how to pitch, I took it as an insult, I was personally offended. I think they must be correct now. How do you do 20 Sec pitch, forget to mention bitcoins, in which Kevin Rose just said he was very much into.

The real pitch should have been...

"Hey Kevin and Jason, what if you could get paid or get a twitter shoutout for your online publication. My company bitwall allows publications to do just that, with the power of bitcoins and twitter."

That is a lot better and engaging. When you do a pitch even in 20secs you have to state exactly what your company does and how it disrupts. Otherwise as you saw in the video it becomes a forgettable idea.

Plus that guy from bitwall, should have had a business card, and gave it to Kevin.

COME ON BITCOIN COMPANIES WE DON"T WANT TO LET PEOPLE WHO ARE ELEPHANTS IN THE TECH WORLD TO JUST STOMP ON US.
1578  Bitcoin / Project Development / Bitcoineastcoast.com on: December 12, 2013, 12:18:08 AM
I want to gauge interest of the direction I should take this domain, I got it just now cause I live on the east coast. I am thinking of place to set up meetups, physical places to post ads of them starting to accept bitcoins, etc. Anything you guys want, I would love to start a local forum for just bitcoiners of the east coast but I don't see enough interest in doing that.

Leave your feedback
1579  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Reliable trading platform? on: December 11, 2013, 05:58:40 AM
I see. What concerns me the most is that some people claimed they got hacked and lost their bit coins. In general, storing or transferring bit coins can be quite dangerous due to the nature of this peer to peer network. Do you use Tor browser to conceal your IP address?

If you take the right secure measures you will be fine, like don't use a web wallet. Keep your anti-security, firewall all up to date. Use paper wallets when you can, no one can be hacked on a paper wallet, you can lose them but keep them safe.

In the beginning I was always scared about a transaction but if you double check everything before hitting that send button you should be good.

I don't use tor, I am using a VPN some times and sometimes nothing. But most of my wealth is in paper-wallets, and if someone hacked my computer they get maybe $10 worth of bitcoins or less.
1580  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Reliable trading platform? on: December 11, 2013, 04:50:48 AM
Wow, thats very inspiring. Here I am going to college trying to get a sheet of paper so that I can get a job. I hope I can be successful as you are, but first thing first, how do you even start trading bit coins? Is there a manual or instruction to guide you?

Buy low, sell high, I am not much of a trader so I am not much help there but you will know when their is a ramp up and little bit of a crash. The forums go crazy at during those times.
