the hub i grabbed was http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Power-Adapter-Control-Switches/dp/B0051PGX2I

and now that i look at it... sigh. it may not power a full 12 either.

I think I would rather receive my unit untested rather than have it run under-current.  I'm not an EE...which is probably part of the reason I am paranoid about these sorts of things.

Also I worry a little bit about the time it might take to get the cgminer or whatever software figured out for these brand new devices.  I'm sure you will be keeping us informed of progress through the time you crack open the big box.  In the hopeful case that we get that far at any rate.  If everything goes smoothly and seems to be working, it would be nice to have the optional QA.

BTW, has ~friedcat mentioned anything one way or another about any QA they might do at the shop?  I've not spotted it in any of his posts.

that's what we're waiting on actually. him getting the chips and testing them.

i'll do everything i can to have cgminer set up, the packing materials and addresses to mail to, etc, ready to go the instant the box arrives. and lots of caffeine on hand too. i want to get the bulk orders done the first day, if i can. that's over half the chips though, now that i look at it.

as to the hub being underpowered: ...excuse me while i contact bitspend to cancel it!

you guys won't kill me if fro mthe day i get the package to mailing it all out is 3 or 4 days, will ya? christ there's a lot of you, and a lot of chips...
1702  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 13, 2013, 12:25:10 AM
i've also picked up another hub so i can test 21 of these at a time.

I got a couple 10-port hubs recently myself (Rosewill), but as I look at it, I see the wallwart is only rated to supply 4 amps.

I don't think I'll be trying to run more than 8 on mine, unless I wire mine up to get 5V from my PC ATX power supply.

oh god, no, thank YOU.
1704  Economy / Auctions / Re: Bioshock Infinite AMD codes for steam minimum bid 0.01 [btc] on: May 12, 2013, 08:00:33 PM
auction over, isn't it?
1705  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 12, 2013, 06:20:38 PM
That would be a *lot* of wall warts powering those hubs.  Cheesy

god, i hadn't even THOUGHT of that part.

lets see, 12 port hubs... what, about 35 of them? BAHAHAH. i don't think this house HAS that many plugs... to make no mention of the circuits blasting
1706  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 12, 2013, 06:16:14 PM
yea, i know. no worries.

imagine hooking up all of them to one pc... that'd be a lot of USB hubs...
1707  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 12, 2013, 05:45:41 PM
Well, I didn't want to be a wet blanket, but I don't really see the point of transferring the BTC to John.  I understand him being the point man on the due diligence of arklan, but since we will be trusting arklan with 100k of gear, why wouldn't we trust him with 100k of BTC?  I'm not complaining about anyone involved or their fees, I am just trying to find a way to make it more convenient for everyone.

I was also thinking if I were FriedCat and had intentions of continued retail in the US, I would hire a trusted individual in the US to do the resale.  Isn't that how everything else gets done?  You have the benefit of drop-shipping pallets of miners, and rapid deliveries of orders.  Of course, If I were FriedCat, I would probably be on the beach by now, being served drinks by supermodels.

well, at this point, john HAS the money. so, you know.

as to the later part - i should talk to the cat about that.
1708  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 12, 2013, 05:09:55 PM
I have processed an emergency refund to cchan as discussed and agreed with Arklan.John

OMG! Thief! They're takin' our jerbs!!! err.. bitcoins! Cheesy

Sarcastic fear aside, it struck me again how smoothly this has gone.  Here we have 100 virtual strangers who've made a promise in an anonymous forum to make a purchase worth $200-$4000+,  a promise that 95% of have followed through and immediately paid up.  I don't know how many of you have tried this before in other group buy contexts, but that just does not happen.

We're also collectively trusting two other virtual strangers with the equivalent of $100,000. Next, we're trusting a tiny, relatively unproven company to deliver us an in-development product that nobody outside that company has ever seen function.  We do this knowing that even if things go incredibly smoothly with manufacture/delivery, and the difficulty ramp is better than expected, none of us will see our ROI for at least 6 months, likely longer.

Pundits on either side of the 'will bitcoin last' argument need look no further.

or, in other words: we rock. Cheesy

Congrats Smiley I actually bought a code for Crysis 3 awhile back, but I desperately wanted Bioshock.. if I didn't already have Crysis, I might've gone after it harder. Enjoy!

heh. thanks. i'm a big fan of both. Cheesy

Does anyone know the configuration flags to use to get cgminer to work with the Block Erupter?

obviously there's some people running the full blades, but but i don't think the dev's have even gotten these little guys.

so, in short, nope! not yet.
1712  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 12, 2013, 04:11:58 AM

nice. is that dividend projection accurate? looks it. i'm just surprised. .014 next week predicted, and it's saturday.

It simply takes 90% of the mined coins for the previous 7 days and divides it by the number of shares. 90% is an estimate, and it doesn't include any equipment auctions or sales.

very interesting.

Friedcat says he'll start taking the orders once he has received and completed the test on the sticks. Hopefully we can get the orders in quick!  Grin

Best news i've heard all day!!! Thanks to you and Arklan for busting your asses getting this done in a very professional manner. Danke!!

aww. hear that john? they like us! Cheesy

...god i'm a dork.

Goddamnit.  Grin

it's STILL only like 25 bucks! for two games i'd otherwise pay AT LEAST 90 for? bargain.
1716  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 12, 2013, 01:25:10 AM
Is there any chance I can still place an order for 20 units?  Please!   Cry

not with me, sorry. check the other group buys.
1717  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 12, 2013, 01:16:06 AM
that leaves 5 unpaid.

john is, as i've said, going to submit the order immediately upon getting the info from friedcat. we are all set to go.

i've also picked up another hub so i can test 21 of these at a time. better then the 5 i was at... and of course, when i say test, i mean plug it in, run it for 1 share, then pack it.

I've never mined a share in my life(*).  How long does it take?  Do you believe that this QA is something which will slow down the re-packaging and shipping process, or is it something you can do overnight (and still have the mental capacity to ship the next day without undue errors or substance abuse Smiley

If you finish up and get some Z's you have authorization to leave my unit on-line overnight and try to pick up some BTC.

---

(*) Actually when I first got around to building bitcoind I needed some coins like everyone else.  I found various documentation about cpu mining and built some of that software also.  Then I got an account on a pool or two.

I got banished in short order for 'inefficiency'.  Man what I butt-hurt!

Only then did I realize that I was reading months old documentation that was horribly outdated already.  CPU mining was already completely useless.  This would have probably almost exactly two years ago.

on my raedeon 6870 at 270 mhash, a share is usually no more then 20 seconds or so. don't worry, i'll not abouse any substances... besides caffeine...

as to running them: no idea.

I repeat again unless BTC rockets in price again, and it's holding steady under $120, you will never make an ROI on these.

The USD / BTC exchange is irrelevant, if you pay in BTC and you get your return in BTC, then it's just a matter of calculating in BTC. No USD or EUR in play here

Only partially true, without a FIAT exit BTC is almost worthless. If the USA made trading BTC into USD illegal watch the value of BTC plummet. And good luck trying to pay your electricity supplier in BTC in the near future, if ever!

Again, you should not look at the BTC to USD rate, as you can just as well buy the BTC 2 and hoard it.

If you invest BTC then you should look at how long it will take to get the BTC back

Quote
Only when Unit abd all BTC mining costs are issued and payable in BTC will this statement be true. And those using "Free" electricity from parents /work etc, you are actually stealing!

Some of us do run on renewable power, which is costing us nothing, if you discount the government subsidies we get. Technically we don't steal from our parents but from all of you ;-)

solar powered bastards!

i kid. i'm just jealous and want to join your ranks.
