1761  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any possibility to put on ignore every member who display a signature? on: February 04, 2020, 03:26:17 PM
Not all signatures are bad. Some members promoting bounties, and really great and helpful posters.

In my opinion, it's far better to add individual members to your ignore list.
1762  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will the world leaders punish China because of it’s handling of Coronavirus? on: February 03, 2020, 05:08:58 PM
Haven't they been punished enough by the warmongers inflicting it on them.
1763  Other / Meta / Re: Claim to the moderator of the Russian section of Xal0lex on: February 02, 2020, 09:45:25 PM
Obviously I have no knowledge of this situation, as I am not a Russian speaker. I would like to make some general comments on moderation though.

Moderators hold the future of the forum in their hands, and it is a big responsibility. They will become unpopular, and this is why many have to remain anonymous. Keeping a forum free of spam, and undesirable posts is a monumental task. However, the deletion of threads and post, or the moving of them to boards that are less desirable in the view of the poster, can be destructive and damaging to the forum. I walked from the mining board because I felt that the moderation there was designed to maintain a small clique of posters, and was not aimed at encouraging members who may be new to mining. I have had projects killed by a moderator, and I am now reluctant to start any new ones. I have seen many comments about similar experiences. What is evident is that the forum has changed, and many good members no longer contribute.

My suggestion is that a moderator reviewer is appointed, and that any post or topic by a Full Member or above is checked by this reviewer, and a moderator who may not be acting in the best interests of the forum or a board is given some guidance. I no longer bother to complain about what I consider to be bad moderation of my posts, as I feel that these complaints don't help the forum. However, it is certain that the forum is losing a many good posts by members as a result of bad moderation. This is not just the posts of the members, but as a result of these members reducing their contributions.

Congrats.

I've just noticed that I missed my "tool" post - 7001.
1765  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Brexit deal passes the European Parliament. 621 - 49. on: January 31, 2020, 07:12:48 AM
Yep, the level of knowledge and misinformation about Britain is astronomical. I get trashed for saying that the modern British Empire controls the EU, but when I ask who is in charge, then nobody can say. It certainly isn't the fake parliament. The EU was afailed experiment from the very beginning, and the ruling elite will try to morph it into something else, or they will replace it. Maybe it will be an enlarged British Commonwealth. The situation was rather like a modern liner being shackled behind a leaky old dredging barge, and the chains are being cut. The barge owners are desperately trying to hitch themselves behind the freed liner, but they aren't trying to fix the leaks. It is obvious to anybody who stops to think about it, that the EU can no longer survive on its own, and we will see more countries breaking free over the next year of so.

I just hope that we are strong, and regain our fishing grounds and air space, and we resist the poisonous chlorinated chicken that the US is trying to dump on us. It's sad that Trump doesn't spend some of his war chest by improving food quality for Americans. Talking of food quality, we had higher standards before we were sucking into the EU, and it looks as if we can regain these once we are free of restrictions. If you don'r believe me, then try some Somerset brie, and compare it with the sterile French equivalent that the French dump onto us.
1766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin protocol be changed to allow for a larger supply? on: January 30, 2020, 06:56:22 PM
You could have a scrip issue - everyone with a bitcoin gets 9 more ( say ), and that would raise the pool to 210 million, but each would be worth 1/10 of the value. But what would be the point? I can see the day when Satoshi is the unit of exchange, and Bitcoin is the name of the currency. Rather like Sterling and the pound, and the Renminbi and the Yuan.
1767  Other / Meta / Re: No support on this forum? on: January 30, 2020, 02:37:12 PM
The amount of merit you've earned does not decrease by giving merit to someone else.

Many members still don't seem to understand the merit system here. I wrote an article for my blog about the  merit system from the perspective of a merit source. I wrote it about a year ago. and maybe I need to review it to see if there are any changes required. If you want to read it, the article is here -

1768  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Brexit deal passes the European Parliament. 621 - 49. on: January 30, 2020, 11:33:00 AM
It's not Brexit if it is linked to a trade deal.
1769  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Is pacing on a first floor apartment annoying and what can I replace it with? on: January 30, 2020, 11:31:29 AM
you can only find out by.... (you guessed it).....

talking to them.

Good heavens, English people don't do things like that. I mean they may not have been introduced. Smiley
1770  Other / Meta / Re: Copying my [D-8] debate threads onto local boards. on: January 30, 2020, 11:27:45 AM
Thanks Welsh. I'd like to help to expand the international discussions in Bitcoin Talk if I can. I'm particularly interested in the changes that are happening in some countries, and how they may affect Bitcoin in the future. One example is the decision by India to start building Thorium reactors  to generate low cost, safe electricity, and the government acceptance of Bitcoin mining. This could cause a shift in the location of mining farms, which would be good for decentralisation.
1771  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Are you a citizen of the world? on: January 29, 2020, 07:33:53 AM
In Japan, it's unethical to eat while walking.

It used to be like that in England. If fact, I once gave up a girl friend because she used eat ice cream cones whilst walking in the streets. Now people eat everywhere, even when shopping in supermarkets, and they throw their litter on the floor. It is not an improvement, and it is just one indication of lower moral standards I believe it indicates a lack of consideration for others and the environment, and probably is the result of low self-esteem.
1772  Other / Meta / Re: The state of Euphoria has been hit by YoBit Participant! on: January 28, 2020, 07:51:47 AM
Of course I know that it isn't a chocolate bar, but I really don;t know what service (if any ) they offered. I haven't visited ChipMixer either, but at least I know what they offer to members. That just shows the power of a domain name, and a business identity.
1773  Other / Meta / Re: The state of Euphoria has been hit by YoBit Participant! on: January 27, 2020, 06:47:36 PM
Am I the only one here who doesn't know what YoBit is/was? Is it some sort of chocolate bar?
1774  Other / Meta / Re: Another merit metric that could be considered in ranking. on: January 27, 2020, 06:34:29 PM
Why do people always have to assume extremes. If all you ever read are books on Rat Rods, then you are going to miss out on a lot of life. Conversely, you can have a rewarding and fulfilling life, even if you have never heard of a Rat Rod.

My point is that you should find the best threads in four or five of the boards here, and not spend all of your time in one corner.
1775  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Is pacing on a first floor apartment annoying and what can I replace it with? on: January 27, 2020, 09:51:19 AM

Could do with gaining about half a foot if growth hormone can help with that 🤣.

Two and a half feet would make you pacing worse. Smiley

Lifting heavy weights is great if you want to bulk up muscles and pose in a "G" string. I think it is better to go for endurance though. That means more reps with smaller weights.
1776  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to make rank-up more difficult on: January 27, 2020, 09:44:07 AM
If you really want to learn about the emerging crypto economy, and you work with other members to improve your own knowledge, and that of others, then merits will trickle in. Most of my merits have arrived in one and twos, and I used to get a bit stressed when I saw people  getting 50 or so merits for posts that weren't really about Bitcoin. I got a few 50d in the early days of merit. but recently it is rare for me to receive an award greater than 2. In theory I don't need any now, but merits are an indication of community approval for some of my ideas. However, constructive replies to posts are better and more useful.

With regards to the OP, I don't think we need to make the structure more difficult, but in my opinion, the board would be improved if merits were awarded more frequently, but in smaller quantities. It would also be useful if we could return to the concept of broadening knowledge about Bitcoin, and get away from the obsession with scratching for free money from crypto. Merits should be used to improve the quality of the forum, and not to help people to avoid having to work for a living.
1777  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pet shop want to become a bitcoin exchange? on: January 27, 2020, 07:17:33 AM
I think you have a few options.

You can accept Bitcoin, and an interesting variant would be an offer to provide change for a purchase in Sterling.
You could use Local Bitcoins to exchange crypto.
You could install an ATM

You will need to be careful that you don't breach any banking regulations, and also you will need to make sure that your business bank is happy for you to have crypto associations.
1778  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Posting on BitcoinTalk: how do I know when my post is "too long"? on: January 27, 2020, 07:07:39 AM
If you think it is too long, then it probably is. Smiley
1779  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pet shop want to become a bitcoin exchange? on: January 26, 2020, 06:52:20 PM
Depending on the sums involved, I could probably buy Bitcoin for Sterling from you, and do it at the XE.com rate with no additional fees.
1780  Other / Meta / Copying my [D-8] debate threads onto local boards. on: January 26, 2020, 06:48:28 PM
It looks as if my first [D-8] debate thread is gaining some interest, and I have been wondering how to rake the topic onto some local boards to help out International members. I own the domain D-8 net, and I planned to use that to support the project. I've just had an idea of a way to extend the project.

If an English language thread is popular enough, then a member of a local board could take some of the posts from that thread, and start a translated thread on his local board. This would then open the topic to non-English speaking members. It would need to be carefully monitored and reported to avoid any accusations of plagiarism of course. This is why I suggest that a link to the translated thread should be listed on the debate network. This will simplify the work of the moderators.

What do you guys think of the idea, and how do you think it could be implemented if it is viable.
