also, i heard from one of the blade buyers. apparently there were no customs fees.
You have to declare a value on the package or declare it as a gift, so it would be interesting to know what was on the package's customs tag. That also decides the insured value. A gift has no value and if you send too many of them, customs might limit your ability to export.

yea, i asked, he didn't say. *shrug*

we're at 316 ordered right now. yay!

i'm going to get some sleep for a few hours. i'll update everything when i wake.
1802  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 08, 2013, 04:52:50 AM
ok traders - question for ya.

i've apparently talked my head off about bitcoin enough that my brother wants in. he wants to buy two block erupter blades from asicminer the next time they're available. i have word from friedcat (in a PM inquring about the group buy of usb's i'm running) that there could be more available in a week or so. worst case scenario, those will sell for about 75 btc each, as they did in the first auction.

so, what's the easiest/quickest way to get 150 bitcoin? coinbase? wire to gox or bitstamp? local? talk to me guys.

...and be annoyed that i don't reply readily as i'm gonna go to sleep now... heh.
1803  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 08, 2013, 04:44:19 AM
i am beginning to regret not thinking this all out more clearly (regarding escrow) from the get go... ugh.

also, i heard from one of the blade buyers. apparently there were no customs fees.

Customs is a weird thing.  I have gotten many things with no fees.  Seems at least one Chinese person in my household, gets a lot of 'gifts' from Hong Kong lately.   These also have had no fees.   I had one time they insisted on $30 for a $10 battery.     A shipment of a single item gets a lot less attention then a bulk shipment does.   I do hope we get no fees, but I would not count on it.  So, fingers crossed but think about what to do if you do get hit with customs fees I guess?

right.

as to the whole escrow thing: yes, obviously it's not really escrow, since i'll get the hardware and such. but equally, i don't know that trying to change it now would be viable. i can ask john his thoughts on the matter.

1805  Economy / Auctions / Re: ASICMINER Auction: 50 Block Erupter Blades CHECK OP FOR PAYMENT on: May 08, 2013, 04:25:42 AM
anyone here get a blade delivered in the states? i'm organizing a group buy for the USB's and trying to guess at potential customs fees. if you guys could provide any useful info in that regard, maybe the declared price of your blades or something, i'd appreciate it.

there was 0 fees

there is an unusual problem with my miner, it works, and sends shares (albeit at a lower rate than it should at about 10 ghs) but all the stats in the miner page are wrong, all the stats besides received and uptime are at 0 and received/ up time go up until uptime hits about 2 minutes and a few seconds, at which point the received and uptime reset and the miner takes a few seconds to send shares again. thoughts? my power supply is a 13.8v 19 amp radioshack one. the wires are braided 12 gauge wires that didn't fit into the power port. since it was braided and the board has 2 holes for positive and negative, i simply seperated the wires into 2 equal sized amount of wires and plugged them into the nessecary slots. (idk if this is a nono)

regardless anyone on irc now? query noitev_ and help me... if not online im either sleeping or driving and really want this fixed

really? excellent!

as to your power thing: ugh. i really hope they put some sort of connector on future blades...
1806  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 08, 2013, 04:18:59 AM
yea, USPS will be the carrier.

i pm'd friedcat, and he has said we can pay anytime.

as to a hard stop: 48 hours from now, i will stop accepting orders. 7 days from then, payments to escrow will be expected to be completed and all money gathered.

so we'll send payment to friedcat in 9 days, basically.

i'll update the OP accordingly.

1808  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 08, 2013, 03:44:13 AM
so i just did some price guessing for shipping - sending one 5 ounce package priority mail via the post office isn't even 3 dollars. where as UPS was more like 18. ...it's been a while since i've mailed a package... yeesh. postal service it is, unless someone has a very good reason as to why not. still insured, with tracking, of course.

also, does anyone have any ideas on estimating the potential customs charges? i tihkn it's dependant entirely on the declared value and what it's declared as, both things we can only guess. hmm. i'll ask the blade buyers.
1809  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 08, 2013, 03:33:04 AM
i haven't the slightest clue how customs would treat this sort of thing coming in from china, nor how ASICMINER will label it. thus, planning the potential customs cost in is something haven't a clue how to do.

as to the reward part - you're right, it is wonky.

escrow - obviously my identity verification is already in john's hands, so, as you say, the point of the escrow may be ...less. but obviously, i'm not the one to call for dropping it. not my place. i leave it to you guys to discuss. if necessary i'll send out pm's asking for opinion on the subject.

hmm. maybe, since everyones built the escrow fee into their plan as is, if we decide to drop it, we leave the price where it's at in case of customs fees? then if any of that 2% remains i could send it back perhaps? the customs thing really throws a wrench in, since i don't know how to estimate the cost of it.
1810  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 08, 2013, 03:22:27 AM
Now it is more than 300.
When will the funds be collected and usb devices be shipped?
Time is very important.  Wink

i actually just asked this of friedcat. he said we're welcome to pay anytime, and that expected completion hasn't changed. according to the original announcement, "This is the first batch under production in quantity. Its lead-time is conservatively 15-20 days." which was may 4. so, completion (and therefore shipping, i assume) should occur during the week of may 20th.

what are group thoughts on shipping? insurance and tracking are obviously something i expect to include. but carrier? i presonally like UPS or USPS. i'm looking into what the cost would be per unit, based on a guess at weight. i'll get that posted here later.

once i confirm the earlier question regarding payment (which address and such) i'll send out the call for payment so we can be ready to have our miners shipped asap.

SO THERE WE HAVE IT.

If you are one short, sign me up for 16 total units, and lets get this show on the road Smiley

When it's time, do we send the whole amount to 1FFyoorSfwQC15Xv7zNZ4Lv5yZcM6WFKuF because the top post also refers to: "fixed fee of 2% for this transaction, pre-paid to 1NB1KFnFqnP3WSDZQrWV3pfmph5fWRyadz".

Also, how does our street address get associated with our payment? Sorry for the dumb questions, but I've never done escrow before.

as to the bitcoin addresses: i'm not sure. i'll double check with john.

street addresses: when we start collecting money, i'll send everyone a pm on the forum with my email address and relevant info. you'll email me your street address and a confirmation of the transaction being sent to the designated address. when all money is collected, john will send it to friedcat, then when i get the miners i'll mail em out. once i know they have been received i'll delete the address holding emails.

tiger - slow? eh, not super speed, yea. but we're SO CLOSE. Cheesy
1815  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 08, 2013, 12:14:37 AM
