1821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IBM and Microsoft unroll The Hyperledger. on: February 17, 2016, 10:42:13 PM
So it doesn't have any coin or token attached to it like Ripple, how does that work? From what I read it's centralized, so I don't have that much interest, not that it's a bad word or anything.

It it's centralized IBM or Microsoft could stop supporting it if it became uneconomical. They will only keep up development if they are making money from it. If it's like vista then I don't trust it. Just because it's from microsoft doesn't mean it's any good, I'd rather trust in Bitcoin.

Yeah I don't think this is really interesting for us bitcoiners, but many of these platforms and systems will be implemented soon by many companies around the world. I think Bitcoin strong point is just being a commodity and a secure way to store wealth in these troubled times, it has proven its worth over time but only in this facet. I don't think it will ever become a viable payment system for everyday life though.
1822  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you play an 8 Pool game with BTC as game credit/betting? on: February 17, 2016, 10:38:26 PM
A few years ago I played the 8 ball pool game on yahoo I believe it was. After some time getiing up a bit in the ranks I started noticing players making a lot of insane shots, no everyone but about 1 in 10 players were insane. I got to looking around and found some videos of a cheat they were using that showed the exact angle and velocity to hit a certain shot, which was the reason for all the crazy shots. The way no money on the line and there were still people cheating. I don't think a game like this would work very well, I think cheaters would take over and just kill the whole game.

That's a good story, well for me it's clear now why a game like this doesn't exists but I only named it as an example, is there any other game based on skills that can be used? Perhaps even a more complex one like FPS, racing games, etc. I guess there's no way to bypass a script or bot doing its thing.
1823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google developers about Bitcoin: "The revolution of crypto currency" on: February 17, 2016, 09:51:16 PM
Those are great news indeed but I don't read too much into it. I didn't get future development or Google implementation from that just some admiration which is great but far from Bitcoin taking over Google in the Play Store hehe. With Bitcoin one never knows, I still feel there are a lot of negative issues surrounding it and it needs a lot of good vibes if it truly wants another chance to go mainstream.

I was thinking why a game where you can play based on skills doesn't exist yet, similar to 8 Ball Pool but with BTC (currently available at iTunes and Play stores). What do you guys think? Would you play a game of skill and bet on it? I'm not sure why games didn't catch up with BTC, many could become pro gamers, just as there are pro poker players.
Probably would be a great idea since it is very simple to play a (online) pool game. It is easier than said because it's like a pain in the ass to make bot-proof skill-based game.

I guess as it doesn't exists it can't be done. But if you take my example of an exact replica of 8 Pool Game with BTC and a similar amount of players it will be a gold mine! The app or site could charge a fee for entering the tournaments or per game depending on the option selected. There would still be store items as in app purchases but all done via BTC.
I never said that it can't be done. An exact replica of 8 Ball Pool is probably the worst idea, IMO. There is like shit ton of cheat/hack for that game. (ex. unlimited guideline hack) I saw a friend of mine use this cheat/hack, lol.

Alright it was just an example since I've used to play that game, do you have any other ideas in mind that may work? It could be anything basically since many games are based on pure skill. But now I can see how security can be a problem. It will never happer soon but I was envisioning a Twitch like platform where all gamers can bet against each other on different games.

I'm not reducing it to just a pool game, it can be any video game or similar. Perhaps with a strong registration you can open an account and be responsible if you get caught up cheating?
1828  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you play an 8 Pool game with BTC as game credit/betting? on: February 17, 2016, 06:42:04 PM
What about some sort of captcha system at every turn? I'm just brainstorming here, I know if a script/bot is developed it can bypass any sort of security but maybe there's still a way to avoid it.
1829  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you play an 8 Pool game with BTC as game credit/betting? on: February 17, 2016, 06:16:12 PM
I see, is there not a way to combat the bots then? Why Poker can get away then? I know it's not exclusively based on skill since there's plenty of luck involved, but still.
1830  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling problem on: February 17, 2016, 05:51:32 PM
I recommend watching a movie about gambling and addiction, it's not tragic in the sense of a moralistic high view of it but more as a way of life and how it can shape an individual and their relationships, with people and the outside world.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2349144/

Gambling is something every human can relate to since it's wired into our DNA, to go on an adventure and risk your life basically for a reward that is not guaranteed.
1831  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When gambling makes you cry. on: February 17, 2016, 05:45:00 PM
When you lose in gambling, you will cry as it is hard earned BTC that you are losing. When you are winning, your head tells to continue betting to make bigger wins. The best tip is to bet what you can afford to lose and treat gambling as a form of entertainment.

But that form of intertainment will make you lose a lot of btc, and that kind of mind set towards gambling is a no no because of that continue playing you will surely lose a lot and you can't always win on gambling because of the house edge and if you lose they will earn a lot because of you.

You don't have to be so into it that you lose track of reality but I agree the force is strong with gambling hehe! I think there's a saying that the worst part in gambling and in trading for example is to profit or start winning. You really start to feel that you are so special that you can't come down hard. The truth is that you are most likely headed to a rude awakening.

Good luck, I don't follow too much football these days but I've seen you placed some odds in Basketball, will you do any NBA predictions in the upcoming days? I would love to check those.
1833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin 'real money' to you? on: February 17, 2016, 05:32:56 PM
It is not real money because I consider it more of an investment or a tool that I can daily trade or get to other projects. That's because I haven't been tempted to sell it yet, therefore I don't consider it to have real actual value. But if it goes to a number where I can make some actual fiat money that I can buy a car or a house with then that's the day I would think more deeply about selling my humble amount.
1834  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling. Is It Wrong? on: February 17, 2016, 05:28:28 PM
It is wrong in the sense that you are out of your mind for the time being and that can cause recklessness but it doesn't affect all people the same. Some are in risk of losing absolutely everything, others just have some fun and bet what they can afford to lose and they don't care, they just have some fun. For me the last one is the preferred mindset.

1837  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is current monero's rise legit or just a pump and dump thing? on: February 16, 2016, 11:14:38 PM
I don't think privacy is something to be celebrated in terms of currency, that's why you see so many scammers and hacks in Bitcoin. Exchanges keep running away with their money, etc. Privacy is a delicate issue and 100% is something utopic, you may feel that you don't like being filmed in public spaces but you just have to put up with it, no other way around it. With money it's different, business must be regulated and we as civilians living under government still need to play under certain rules. I'm all for financial sensible information not leaking out if you don't want to, but if every transaction can't be traced then you are giving criminals a great tool. Decentralized and P2P currency is great, completely anonymous not so sure...

Please post .png images of your last three months of bank statements.

Don't worry, I'll wait.

No. Do you have access to that? What's your point? Privacy is not black and white, we live in a society. So there are many privacy issues that are not addressed but we tolerate them. Like airports, taxes, id, contracts, etc, to a certain extent of course. How much money you have in your bank and in your bank account is private but it could be investigated if needed and that for me is perfectly fine. Actually having a public blockchain like Bitcoin used for government expenses where you can see how much tax payers money they have on each account is a great idea for example so privacy is a tool that can be used to our benefit. I don't see any benefit with total and complete financial privacy where you don't know where money comes and goes.
1838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers demand $3m bitcoin ransom from hospital to unlock vital files on: February 16, 2016, 10:41:32 PM
Hmm definitely not good for the bitcoin image. Who knows is this was intentionally done or not though, just to smear the bitcoin name.

Sadly Bitcoin is just that to the general population, something used to extortion, drugs, money laundering, scams, etc. And to be honest it's all truth, the media just loves to zoom in on these incidents of course but we can't deny they keep happening. Just take a look at this forum and you'll see 30 scams threads daily on average. Bitcoiners must start to open up and claim for regulation, this anonymous and no refund stuff have to go if we truly want a better future for Bitcoin. Decentralized and P2P currency is great but lurking in the shadows obtaining the benefits of anonymous and non refundable methods has to be attacked.
1839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bernie Sanders will use bitcoin for economic growth? on: February 16, 2016, 10:29:37 PM
No disrespect for the elderly, but Bernie Sanders is simply too old to get it, he will never understand the idea of a decentralized, non-government issued currency like Bitcoin. If investors like Warren Buffer are too old to get it, I doubt a politician will.

Actually no politician ever will, you said it all. How can a government let Bitcoin take over, it will be chaos. The only way is to integrate and regulate it little by little. It can be regulated and still be decentralized, many bitcoiners think one thing nulls the other.
1840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need ideas for a possible presentation... on: February 16, 2016, 10:17:10 PM
currency is not a nice to have, it is essential for every market to prosper.
Not every work, not every product is of the same quality, some have better experience, maybe more talent.
Currency is to only way to reflect this. The future won't be without,
unless ALL work is done and products are produced by automation.

Exactly, plus as individual persons, some need more resources than others, or demand more. This debate reminds me of communism. You can't supress the will to improve in the human being. But also, not every individual person is the same, to put it bluntly, a beatiful person have many more chances to succeed in life, whatever that means than a ugly or disable person, it's human nature and it sucks but it's the truth. So as long as there are perceived differences in the world, there will be wars and disagreements...and you guess it...currencies.
