1841  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Greta Thunberg is the time's person of the year 2019 on: January 18, 2020, 03:31:18 PM

Her age doesn't really matter

Unfortunately it does. It is probable that her opinions are based on those of her teachers at school, The education and indoctrination of children has been used by the Supra-national elite to further their interests, and those don't coincide with the environment or the bulk of the population. She suffers from Aspergers, and it would be more useful to discover which pharmaceuticals damaged her for life.
1842  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ranking Before/After Merit System - Wrong Perception. on: January 18, 2020, 03:24:09 PM
Well paying signature campaigns should recruit members who make informative and useful posts  This will enhance the image of their product. In view of this, members who hope to achieve high earnings should focus on imtpving their knowledge and communication skills, so that they are accepted by the high reward campaigns. If they do this, then they will find that their posting will attract merits without them having to chase them.
1843  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Elizabeth "The Snake" Warren vs Bernie "Go back to the kitchen" Sanders on: January 18, 2020, 08:29:00 AM
The only "standard" most journalists seem to have these days is a big placard with a headline on it.
1844  Other / Off-topic / Re: I Will show u im honest with all of you. on: January 17, 2020, 07:50:39 PM
You don't use an account here. You join to learn about Bitcoin and the crypto currency economy.
1845  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Every Newbie must learn about BBcodes on: January 17, 2020, 07:17:56 PM
Every newbie must learn about Bitcoin.
1846  Other / Off-topic / Re: I Will show u im honest with all of you. on: January 17, 2020, 04:53:06 PM
Don't bother - many people believe that if you need to attempt to prove your honesty, then it is an indication of questionable honesty.
1847  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iran has made a huge mistake and the world will pay a price for it. on: January 17, 2020, 04:50:36 PM
I understand that Trump realises that he suffered a major strategic defeat by authorising the assasination, and that it was based on misinformation and manipulation by the warmongers in the White House. It seems he is not happy about this, and there have been some high level changes.

With regards to the response by Iran. It seems to have been orchestrated to provide an off ramp for both Iraq and the US, and Iran was involved in the negotiation. This explains why The US was given one hours notice of the response, and they were able to evacuate the areas. It also explains why the anti-missile defences were not activated.
1848  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to change the obsolete social media from account info on: January 17, 2020, 12:10:36 PM
Using the website box to spam an affiliate link is similar to using an ICQ box in my opinion. I think it is misleading to call it "website", and then use it for other purposes. Maybe we should dump the unused social media entries, and introduce a couple of affiliation entries. This would make it clear that it isn't the members website.
1849  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to change the obsolete social media from account info on: January 17, 2020, 11:19:01 AM
I think it would be useful to restrict the link in the Website entry to a site owned and run by the member including the link.
1850  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies, turn on the brain - it's not all true if it's in the forum! on: January 16, 2020, 04:07:08 PM
I hope it does drop to $3,000. I'm a long term holder, so it would give me the chance to pick up a load more. Smiley

1852  Other / Meta / Re: Who wants to start a newbie project on the beginners' board with me? on: January 16, 2020, 09:40:30 AM
I'm going to have one more go at starting some newbie discussion topics on the beginners' board. As there hasn't been any comment on the identifier for the project, I'm going to use [D-8]. I would be grateful if the mods could leave these threads on the beginners' board. If they don'r get enough replies, then they will just drop down in the index, there is no need to destroy the project by moving them. It would be good if a few senior members could join this initiative, especially if one of them is a mod.

I think the first one will be a discussion about the block generation interval, and I'll start that a bit later if it is thought to be a good idea.
1853  Other / Meta / Re: Are "giving merit to those who need a bump to rank up" topics allowed today? on: January 16, 2020, 08:59:22 AM
I haven't seen any restrictions, but I don't think they are a good idea. I don't look in those threads, as I think it is a mild form of merit begging. I question the reason that the member wants the merit in the first place. The idea behind rewarded and encouraged for their posting content, and for their support of merit worthy threads. If we need to have these threads, then it means that there aren't enough merit worthy threads, or that the merit awarders aren't visiting them. In either case, we should address the problem, rather than taking the easy way out by checking the self-promotion lists.

There must be many new and junior members who have questions about Bitcoin and the Bitcoin economy. We need to encourage them to bring these to the board for discussion. Of course if the question is very basic, and can be solved with a simple Google search, then that won't provide great value to the forum. Always assuming that the Google answer can't be questioned.
1854  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is planting trees actually good for the planet? on: January 15, 2020, 07:03:04 PM
The only downside  to trees is that people use leaf blowers to blow their leaves onto their neighbour's garden. Then the neighbour uses his leaf blower to blow them back. The lazy far gits should get some exercise, and pick up the leaves.

TMAN - You have led such a sheltered life. Smiley
1856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Should I run my node all the time I am online? on: January 15, 2020, 06:31:03 PM
I'm using public WiFi, so I can't enable incoming connections. I seem to have a maximum of 8 peers that can connect at any one time.

I might do a bit more research, and see if any of the WiFi providers will allow incoming connections.
1857  Other / Off-topic / Re: Stopping with smoking on: January 15, 2020, 06:19:38 PM
I believe that vaping is more damaging than smoking cigarettes, and it is also anti-social. I hate it when some weak willed person is blowing clouds over everybody nearby.

Chewing gum is a pretty vacuous habit, and if the chewing gum contains nicotine, then it can led to gum disease.
1858  Other / Off-topic / Re: Health is Wealth: You Take Supplements? on: January 15, 2020, 06:14:18 PM
I'm 77. and I don't take any supplements, drugs or other artificial concoctions. I research food and natural mineral content, and ensure that I have s well balanced diet. I don't smoke, and I don't add sugar to anything, and I try to get  enough exercise. Contrary to popular belief, I don't eat McDonalds burgers or other processed meats. I don't accept any vaccinations either, and I haven't for about 50 years, and I never get colds or 'flu, even when I am surrounded by the vaccinated 'flu sufferers.
1859  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What will happen when people realise that the world is cooling and not warming? on: January 15, 2020, 06:01:03 PM
What gets me is that if you question received wisdom about climate, then you are a climate change denier. We don't deny that climate is changing, we just don't agree about the direction and the causes.
1860  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org forum's signatures & avatars on: January 15, 2020, 05:57:25 PM
The idea of an avatar is to provide a unique image to make your account recognisable.

I don't understand the benefit to the forum or the member from having a link to BitcoinTalk in a signature. It just clutters up the thread, and provides no advantages in my opinion.
