1861  Other / Meta / Re: 2023 Ban appeal status on: June 07, 2023, 02:33:42 PM
@SeriouslyGiveaway, at least one date is wrong, because as far as @GreatOrchid is concerned, the date of appeal is actually 29 March 2019. The new thread shouldn't even have been opened, but the whole story doesn't make much sense anyway.
1862  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I have a Trezor of the first version. on: June 07, 2023, 02:10:20 PM
Wasn't aware of how the passphrase thing works on  Trezor devices : basically is like adding another word to the seed and therefore creating a new wallet?

That's right, and that means that the seed in itself is worthless without a passphrase, and even though it may cause confusion for some, when it comes to Trezor, I would recommend everyone to familiarize themselves with that option and use it.

Anyway considering recent ledger mess up, even if it's a bit offtopic, would you be so kind to share what you consider being better solutions?

The only storage that can be considered safe if done correctly is airgapped cold storage, and anyone with an old laptop/PC can do it. As for ready-made solutions, most agree that there is currently only one hardware wallet that makes sense to buy -> Foundation Devices 'Passport Batch 2' hardware wallet review
1863  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I have a Trezor of the first version. on: June 07, 2023, 01:39:55 PM
Regarding the security of the Model One compared to the Model T, I don't think there is any significant difference - and both models have a vulnerability that allows the device to be hacked if someone comes into its physical possession. Of course there is a way for users to protect themselves by setting up passphrase, which should again be composed of random characters, and if I remember correctly, someone mentioned even 30+ characters for absolute security.

I think you can be pretty safe if you buy BTC and store them in that HW, although there are always some better solutions.
1864  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Deciding to save money in Bitcoins for the future of the child on: June 07, 2023, 01:23:07 PM
OP if you live in a country where banks fail, and at the same time there is no deposit insurance, then the logical conclusion would be that you do not keep money (or too much money) in the bank. The question is what will you choose as an alternative, and Bitcoin is only one of the options in case you realize that the only correct way to store it is to be your own bank.

If you decide to go in that direction, then you have to accept the responsibility and risk that comes with it. Will you lose your backup, will someone hack you, or will the price of BTC in xx years be lower than today are just some of the questions you should ask yourself. Maybe it's wise to listen to people who say that it's not good to keep all your eggs in one basket, and that means that you should invest in something else in addition to Bitcoin.
1865  Economy / Economics / Re: Twitter ad sales down 59%, company valuation down 66% on: June 07, 2023, 01:04:54 PM
Honest question, what are the alternatives? I only know about Mastodon, which is too clunky for most people, so it will never achieve the full network effect, and I know of Trump's Twitter clone, which is what Elon Musk is trying to recreate.

Honestly, since I stopped using Twitter, I haven't even tried to try anything else, although I have also heard of Mastodon, which is mostly mentioned as the first alternative. Of course, there are other platforms of a similar type, and some of them are presented on this link Ditching Twitter? Here are the 20 Best Twitter Alternatives

My prediction is that Reddit and Telegram will absorb a lot of Twitter users, since these two social networks are not as cancer as products of Meta.

Maybe when it comes to the younger population that is looking for a replacement, but there are a lot of people who are fed up with this way of communicating and are not actually looking for a replacement. Fortunately, there are alternatives, and the world will not stop even if Twitter somehow ceases to exist.
1866  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Atomic Wallet hacker sends crypto to mixer used by Lazarus Group: Elliptic on: June 07, 2023, 12:49:33 PM
Oh wow. Do you consider Cointelegraph as a third-rate news portal?
~snip~

I think I was clear about that, and many others agreed with that as we fought against those who shill their links on this forum and were paid for it. Not only do they try to make a sensation out of every senseless news, but they built their reputation in a very dirty way. I put them on my blacklist a long time ago, although I don't expect others to do the same.
1867  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Nations League final four ⚽ on: June 07, 2023, 12:35:40 PM
Livaja is to blame for the fact that some fans criticize him, because if you want to celebrate your victories in a way that insults others, then be prepared that others will return it in the same or similar way. Given that this is not his first time and that he has already been punished for the same things, I think that his club should perhaps take some steps in terms of counseling regarding self-control.

Croatia definitely has problems with attackers, but Livaja is not irreplaceable, so this should not be seen as something that should affect the players and their game. What I would personally do if I were a coach is to close all training sessions to the public, and apparently none of the staff thought about that before the incident.
1868  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Nations League final four ⚽ on: June 06, 2023, 03:19:35 PM
Yeah, the fans will surely give some performance boost to Croatia. But I don't know if that will be enough to win a medal.

A small country like Croatia cannot expect a medal at every competition, but we definitely have the potential to go towards that goal.

I remember when Germany hosted the World Cup in 2006. There was a lot of Croatian fans on the stadium, but Croatia didn't even qualify for the next round. They ended up with one loss from Brazil and two draws from Australia and Japan.
I admit that this time the Croatian national team is much better and I'm sure that failing to qualify for the next round after the group stage will be a huge disappointment.

It's not only about the players, but also the coach who has vision and continuity, which was definitely not the case in 2006 when the coach was Kranjcar, who succeeded Baric, and frankly both were bad, especially the latter who, like many others before him literally destroyed our national team. We only need to remember what Dalic did in just two games when he took over the team from the incompetent Cacic.
1869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin(BTC) vs wrappedBitcoin(wBTC) on: June 06, 2023, 02:42:59 PM

So wanting to find how many bitcoin he held, was just for fun and motivation, that's all.

I have to admit that it's a bit of a strange way of motivation, because personally it would never occur to me to ask someone how much BTC or $ they have, and even less that it would motivate me to want to have more.

If you read the later part of that same line, I clearly stated that the recommended wallet is not particularly the best, but yeah, I agree with you, but also understand that a good mobile wallet is just as secure as the device it's installed on, I've being using mycelium wallet since 2018 or so, can't vividly remember, but it's been a very long time, I've never had any issues with it..

Everyone takes their own risks, and if you think you can safely store your BTC in a mobile wallet, then that is your personal matter.

And besides, the person I recommended the wallet to is not a newbie in crypto, he knows he way around crypto very well, and would go for a better more secure wallet like hardware wallets, if he feels the wallet I recommended is not secure enough..

That doesn't make sense to me, because it seemed to me that he was a complete beginner who doesn't know the difference between some wBTC and BTC, let alone know the difference between mobile and hardware wallets. The fact that you explain to him what Bitcoin actually is and advise which wallet to use definitely does not support what you claim.
1870  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Atomic Wallet hacker sends crypto to mixer used by Lazarus Group: Elliptic on: June 06, 2023, 02:20:01 PM
OP, no offense, but you should stop reading third-rate news portals that produce clickbait headlines, and their whole story boils down to mere speculation involving some kind of blockchain-spying company. Does it even matter through which mixer those funds went through (if they did at all), and who says they didn't use some other mixer as well?

First, I believe that the appropriate board for this topic is not Reputation, but Service Discussion.
~snip~

The OP (as well as some others) obviously think that topics like this are appropriate for the Reputation board, although it would be more appropriate to post them elsewhere. Insinuations that some mixer laundered funds from this or that hack are completely meaningless, especially if we know that no mixer has a blacklist and does not limit coins that may come from suspicious sources or are connected to illegal activities.
1871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin(BTC) vs wrappedBitcoin(wBTC) on: June 06, 2023, 01:40:16 PM
As we were discussing crypto, I asked him if he's holding bitcoin at the moment, he said yes, I was curious to know how much Bitcoin, he refused to say though, but went further to tell me how he has his entire bitcoin staked for interest...

Your question was definitely not appropriate, because why would you need to know how many Bitcoins someone has, or how much money they have in their bank account or gold in their safe?

It was a lengthy discussion, but in the end, he asked what to do, I advised him to unstake his wrapped bitcoin and sell it immediately, then use the money to buy the real Bitcoin and hold on a good and trusted non custodial wallet like the one I'm currently using(mycelium), though not particular the best, but very trust worthy.

It surprises me that someone who should have a much better understanding of the risks of storing sensitive information uses and recommends to others as the main storage a wallet used on mobile devices. After online wallets, it is almost certainly the riskiest way of storage (long term) and we only use such wallets as hot wallets and some smaller amounts.

At the end, I was happy I was able to really educate him on the danger of holding wrapped bitcoin in the place of the real bitcoin, and this made me to imagine how many bitcoin investors out there, that are holding wrapped Bitcoin, and really consider themselves to be holding bitcoin..
Wrapped bitcoin is no different from any other altcoin out there, it is highly deceptive to think you hold bitcoin if what you are holding is wrapped bitcoin.

If you invest in something that you are not sure what it is about, then you definitely have a problem - and considering that there are various projects that use Bitcoin in their name, then it is quite normal that some are convinced that they have something that they actually do not have.
1872  Economy / Economics / Re: Twitter ad sales down 59%, company valuation down 66% on: June 06, 2023, 01:09:30 PM
At this rate Twitter will either file for bankruptcy or will be sold for 5-10 billion to new owners. Or maybe Musk will double down and will start using his Tesla/SpaceX money to support Twitter, although if that happens, the shareholders of those companies will be very unhappy. Another way how Twitter can survive a bit longer is if it will secure funding from foreign governments. One of the buyers of Twitter together with Musk was a Saudi prince. Maybe Musk will start offering censorship/propaganda/data harvesting service to governments for a large fee to offset his ad revenue losses. Because blue checkmark sales are clearly not enough.

Honestly, it doesn't matter to me at all if that company will fail quickly and completely, or if something else will happen, considering who became the owner. There are quite adequate alternatives, and with time people will find them and join the millions who have already left that platform for one reason or another.

In addition, there is no good news from the EU either, because Mr. Mars (so far) refuses to harmonize his business with the new regulations when it comes to digital laws in the EU. Obviously, these new laws do not match his vision of "freedom of expression".

Despite Twitter’s withdrawal, the EU’s anti-disinformation code remains “strong,” said Vera Jourova.
Vera Jourova, the European Commission’s Vice-President for Values and Transparency, bashed Twitter’s latest decision to leave the EU’s anti-disinformation code as “irresponsible” at a time when Russia’s disinformation is extremely dangerous.
“Bye, bye birdie,” Jourova tweeted on Saturday. “Twitter has chosen a hard way to comply with our digital laws,” she added.
“Russia’s disinformation is dangerous and it is irresponsible to leave [the] EU's anti-disinformation Code”.
1873  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: June 06, 2023, 10:30:57 AM
@RickDeckard, It just seemed to me that such a small number of units could be a problem in the future with regard to firmware updates, because the user base is very small and it is easy to abandon the product without making too much noise. However, the link you posted states that even the first version will continue to receive updates on a regular basis.

Quote
Additionally, though Passport Batch 2 will introduce numerous improvements, Passport Founder’s Edition will continue to receive regular firmware updates! We’re excited to keep improving your Passport experience as time goes by.

However, as for the new device, it seems that it will be even better than the previous two, so the question arises, is it worth waiting for it to become available or buying the current version? Is there somewhere an official counter of how many units have been sold so far, or how many are still available in total?
1874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: i found 150 BTC on: June 05, 2023, 03:49:14 PM
What does it matter whose wallet it is? After all, I have the dat file. all we have to do is crack the password? if this is possible i will give half of the coins inside the wallet.

Why stop at only 150 BTC when you can have thousands that are supposedly locked in lost wallets? In case you are bored and if you have extra money, you can fool yourself for the rest of your life that you are rich -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5421106.0

You should hurry up if your intention is serious as "Batch 2 is limited to 2400 units."

Is there a special reason why they decided to produce only 2400 units? This does not seem logical to me from a business perspective, especially if the demand is increased, as is the case now. Although it seems to me that I read that some new device is being prepared, so that might be the reason.

Besides having to let this account in means anybody who has waited a long time can get a second opinion as this will set precedent for everyone banned to get second opinion and get unbanned.

I think that here we should focus on what is the real problem, and that is the very justified suspicion that the BTT account in question is just one of a series of alt accounts that the OP owns or has owned, some of which have been permanently banned. Therefore, this is not about plagiarism exclusively, but the "problem" is much more layered, and if for 4 years no one felt that there was even the slightest doubt that the OP should get a second chance, then it will not happen in the next 4 years either.

Each case is a story in itself, and 99% of those who received a perma ban have long since forgotten about it and will not look for another chance.
1877  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Nations League final four ⚽ on: June 05, 2023, 02:49:44 PM
I'm surprised that bookies give that high odds on Croatia. I guess they see Netherlands playing in front of their fans like a really big advantage. It could be. But then again, if I would be betting, I would probably go with x2 because of the way Croatia tends to play these knockout games.

I'm not surprised, even if the game was played in Croatia, I think the bookies will set the odds slightly in favor of the Netherlands, or in the best case, the odds of winning would be equal. Consequently, most bookmakers give Croatia the least chance to win the League of Nations.

Everyone in Croatia knows how Modric feels about playing for the national team. I think that he will retire after the Nations league, but only he knows what is going on in his head. Knowing how Croatia played in the UEFA Euro in the past, I don't think that they can win the title so winning the Nations league would be a real crown of his career in the national team.

Past tournaments have nothing to do with the next one in Germany, which will be special because there will be tens of thousands of our fans in the stadiums and even more on the streets. Our coach emphasized several times that he can't wait to feel that atmosphere, and that will only be an additional incentive for the players to make a good result. Apart from that, playing in the semi-finals would be a great success, I don't see why only the first place should be considered a success.

Lmao, who else is waiting for OP to make miracles happen. 229376$ in 15 days? Hmmmm.

Some obviously think that there is at least a grain of truth in what the OP claims (or his alt accounts), although most don't pay attention to the content, but to how to just write another post in a series. I wrote my opinion in the previous post, but apparently no one cares...

@Wapfika, be careful with your purchases and avoid US based Prime Video if you are not from the US - the reason is that you will get very limited content because you will be treated as a US user who is outside the US.
