Stop discouraging people from Bitcoin...

You just have to ask yourself if it is a bad option to "discourage" someone from making some reckless move, or if we should act like some kind of promoters of Bitcoin, regardless of the fact that in this way we can create not only financial but also various other problems for someone?

People who can't define what Bitcoin is, who can't safely create safe storage or a digital wallet by themselves and people who think that they will get rich overnight with $100 invested should definitely be "discouraged" not to invest in Bitcoin.

An acquaintance of mine asked me a few years ago if it makes sense to invest in Bitcoin, and I answered that it does make sense, but only for people who have an eye for details and the world around them.

Namely, the man (as far as I know) suffered the robbery of his car twice and both times he paid the fine because it was found that he left the car unlocked - otherwise he behaves very irresponsibly in life and I can only imagine how his investment in BTC would end up. The fact that I "discouraged" him is not a bad thing, I did him a great favor.

It's the same here on the forum where there are a lot of confused people, and they shouldn't be encouraged to invest in something so risky and volatile until they learn some things and become responsible people.
1102  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bunny Loader: Another Clipboard malware on: October 04, 2023, 10:48:11 AM
Installing the latest antivirus software is a poor advice and may be provided by some technical articles, but antiviruses update their database periodically, which means that there may be viruses that are not present in the database, which gives high probability false positive reports.

I would not say that this is bad advice, especially if it is a premium AV that updates its database of antivirus definitions several times a day and has good heuristic analysis that can detect viruses/malware even if it is not in the definition database. However, as far as I remember from some previous discussions, clipboard malwares usually cannot be detected using AV, although I don't know if anything has changed in that regard.

Using hardware wallets or open source wallets will not change anything here, but rather:

 - Do not install applications that you do not trust.
 - Check the title completely, or at least the first and last 8 characters.
 - Make sure everything is correct before broadcasting the transaction.

Today it is hard to believe that an app is reliable (trusted) unless it is an app that has millions of downloads and it is possible to verify it before installing it. Even if it is in one of the legitimate app stores, it does not mean that we should consider it 100% safe - and what can we say about those cracked apps that are downloaded via torrents or various suspicious websites.

In much simpler terms, if you know how to behave online, have a solid AV/firewall and don't use cracked software, the chances of picking up something like clipboard malware are very low or none.
1103  Economy / Economics / Re: Honda Now Accepts Bitcoin and Ethereum As Payment Methods on: October 04, 2023, 10:15:31 AM
I agree that Honda isn't really a luxury brand, but I'd say it is good news. Maybe not so big, but we need some of that positivity.
Even if this was some small Chinese brand that I'll never buy, I'd be happy because this goes in the news and people read about it. IMO it's a matter of time before Tesla accepts it again.

I'm not saying that the news isn't good, but far from anyone needing to get too excited about it, because we see from past similar events that people are simply not interested in using Bitcoin as a means of payment. Such news has had almost no impact on the market before, and I doubt that it will have any impact now, either in the short term or even less in the long term.

In a year or maybe less, the news will appear that Honda has decided to remove that option, either because someone will suggest that Bitcoin is "harmful to the environment" or simply because no one will use that payment method. It sounds pessimistic, but unfortunately it is the reality.
1104  Economy / Economics / Re: Honda Now Accepts Bitcoin and Ethereum As Payment Methods on: October 03, 2023, 01:50:05 PM
As the Heading implies. Honda the giant of Japanese automobile now accept bitcoin and ethereum for payment through a third party partnership deal with a blockchain payment system called FCF Pay.

Luxury cars for Bitcoin? That was possible in Japan 6 years ago and I can't say how that story ended, but somehow it doesn't seem to me that many people paid for their cars with BTC.

https://fullycrypto.com/luxury-japanese-car-dealer-loperaio-accepts-bitcoinc
https://www.financemagnates.com/cryptocurrency/news/japans-largest-car-dealership-now-accepts-bitcoin/

*Is this news big enough to trigger market uptrend in the coming weeks, months?

It's no big news, no matter how excited you are. The fact that someone adds BTC as a payment option does not mean that people will use it. There are thousands of online and physical branches around the world where you can spend BTC, but for most Bitcoin is just an investment they want to profit from.
1105  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Cloudbet scammed me for 1BTC on: October 03, 2023, 01:28:17 PM
I don't think I understand the complete situation here correctly. Allow me to rephrase, you've never play on any online casino ever before cloudbet send you the promotional emails that lead us to this situation right now? At all? So where do they get your email address?

The e-mail address could have been leaked from anywhere, the question is how long has the OP been using it and where did he register with it? However, for me it is not so controversial with the e-mail address, but with the fact that the OP claims that he has never used an online casino before, and then he sent 1 BTC to one of them only because he received a promotional e-mail...

Personally, that's a lot of money, and I would never think of gambling with that amount, especially if it's something completely new to me.
1106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two guys that have lost their Bitcoins forever on: October 03, 2023, 01:12:24 PM
~snip~
Never heard about Ironkey it's a good storage for important data but not a good storage for a Crypto wallet.

It's strange, it's not a story from yesterday, it's been going around the forum for years, and every now and then someone recycles it and makes a new topic about it. In addition, this is not about a device that you say is "not good storage for crypto wallet", but a person who protected his data and lost his password. The device is more than good and makes it impossible for someone who comes into unauthorized possession to be able to guess passwords indefinitely.

Furthermore, it seems that Stephan has a profile on this forum, judging by what @DdmrDdmr wrote in this post -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5309176.msg56104358#msg56104358
1107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two guys that have lost their Bitcoins forever on: October 03, 2023, 10:45:20 AM
While the other guy is named James Howell.
The story of this guy is different beacuse he threw away his HDD that contains 8,000 Bitcoins on 2013. He's got some proposal to use AI to clean the landfill but the management can't just agree to it.

He didn't throw away the HDD, but his wife, and all that nonsense about how AI and some kind of robots will help him find what was lost a long time ago are nothing but a bunch of ordinary nonsense with which he wants to draw attention to himself. He used to ask for 250 pounds for an interview, maybe today he asks twice as much, or he hopes that someone will make a movie about him.

In addition, a hard drive that has been buried for so long in a pile of who knows what kind of junk is probably completely unusable, in other words, the chances that the data can be saved are almost nil.

These are just the few of the many that have lost their Bitcoins forever while there's just little to no chance for both of them to recover it, so we can conclude that they're totally lost forever. Should they give up or accepted that they're lost forever, these lost Bitcoins are like a donation to the community as its value retained on the market capitalization of Bitcoin.

Here we are talking about some 15 000 BTC, and that is completely insignificant considering the max supply and the fact that some, based on very strange methodologies, say that millions of BTC have been lost. The fact is that these two people in question here did not appreciate BTC at the time when the wrong move happened to them in life, and now they are crying for spilled milk.

What about the man who hid his backup in fishing poles and the owner of the apartment where he lived threw them in the trash?
1108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's first tweet since 2018? on: October 03, 2023, 10:28:07 AM
As I was about to sleep, I came across this one. Can't believe he made his first tweet since 2018.
---
But his account has blue verified check mark at least.
----
I don't know what to say but he does have some plans in store for Bitcoin. What's your take on
this guys?

You should have definitely gone to sleep and missed this "news" to a some newbie, because it's hard for me to imagine that someone who has been on this forum since 2014 can believe in such fairy tales. However, on the other hand, it is much clearer to me why various Faketoshis still manage to have an army of loyal followers when you can sell them such a cheap story.

If you have some extra BTC, you can buy that account and become Satoshi, blue mark is for free Roll Eyes
1109  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: French member of cyber group pleads guilty to $6 million in data theft damages on: October 03, 2023, 09:54:07 AM
Obviously this group of hackers are sophisticated and highly intelligent individual, it's that they chooses to use on on the dark side of computers and be a criminals.
~snip~

If they are already so smart and intelligent, maybe they will avoid punishment and reach a settlement that would include some kind of house arrest while working for some three-letter agency. It is no secret that such things happen, and it is a real shame to let such people rot in prisons or to be employed by someone else when they are released. Besides, $6 million doesn't seem like a lot, at least not when we look at it globally.
1110  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Tor was not working on: October 02, 2023, 01:50:45 PM
I would echo that you shouldn't use Windows, and again, you are not going to get much in the way of privacy regardless if you use Tor if you are running Windows.
~snip~

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? I understand that Windows is a privacy nightmare, but if someone uses Tor in accordance with all the recommendations, does that mean that some private things are still leaking and can be used to try to identify someone?

Tor isn't just useful for hiding your IP address, but also your browser fingerprint. Your browser fingerprint includes everything unique about your browser, from what version it is, to what fonts it has installed, to what resolution you are running it in (which is why Tor opens in a window and you should not maximize it)...
~snip~

This means that everyone should use Tor in the size of the window that opens at startup, but that doesn't make sense to me, because why would the normal window size that everyone probably uses somehow identify someone? What I know is that it is not recommended to use zoom in/out because the settings at 100% make all users unique.
1111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What should be my next move? on: October 02, 2023, 01:28:32 PM
Trezor Wallet is quite amazing, when you want to store the key offline, it can help a lot. We have always worked in wallets online, like I TrustWallet, Metamask wallet, and many more.
Although I didn't use the Trezor wallet I had read about it in some articles. And that is quite nice to use it offline. Also nowadays too many hackers are there, so there are a lot of possibilities to be hacked, but the Trezor wallet has a beneficial aspect in that the private key will not be shared with anyone, not on the internet.
And more precisely, it doesn't require any customer fee at all, it is free to use. So, I think it would be a great choice to use it. I will also try to use its features.

Don't mix apples and oranges, because Trezor or Ledger are not offline or cold wallets, because at some point you still have to connect them to the internet, whether it's about doing a firmware update or a coin app update. And what fee are you talking about? Each device has its own price, and each transaction you make on such a device also has its own fee.

If you ever get the chance to use a hardware wallet, I advise you to try to understand some basic things before using it, because regardless of how good a device is, the human is usually the weakest link.
1112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My regret for not adopting bitcoin earlier. on: October 02, 2023, 01:06:35 PM
~snip~
My friend who first told me about bitcoin is now a millionaire in dollars. This happened before my very eyes and I have been a regret for not listening to him when he was talking to me about bitcoin. I haven’t made any significant progress in my financial life since then, but I was presented with the opportunity to change my narrative ten years ago but I couldn’t. Today marks it exactly ten years since my friend talked to me about bitcoin. I decided to take the bold step to adopt bitcoin and spread the knowledge to others. After reading many articles about bitcoin I have come to realize that bitcoin is the future of money. I have also learned the bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme.

You express regret that you did not invest in Bitcoin 10 years ago because your friend is a millionaire today, and at the same time you say that Bitcoin is the "future of money" and that it is not a "quick rich scheme!".

Ask yourself if you would have really become a millionaire if you had bought Bitcoin then, because if you had done it at the beginning of 2013, you would have paid only about $13 for 1 BTC, but by the end of that year the price had reached even $950. Could you refrain from selling considering that it is a very big profit? What I want to say is that you could have made a lot of bad (wrong) moves in that period, and nothing would have changed in your life to this day.

So help me God!!

Leave God out of that story, he has nothing to do with it, regardless of how some try to portray people around Bitcoin as a religious sect, which is real nonsense.
1113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Plz help trust wallet haked on: October 02, 2023, 10:39:37 AM
Sorry friend dosent think to scamed someone if you familear with bsc scan plz check what was happened i lost all my life savings becouse of this haker so plz think twice before blame someone ive worked more than 8 hard working years witgout a sleep to colect those tokens its a lot to me actually just asked for help im not a begger or scamer i worked countless hours and dates to colect that tokens i brought those tokens at higher price and worth of all tokens more than 10000 usdt when i brought i got hosputaluzed thats why i asked help from my brother plz take more serious others concern specially in lost of life time savings thank you

And haker keeping some funds in binance peg is thery any way i can contact binance about this hack

If you say that you have been collecting these tokens for 8 years, that would mean that you started collecting/buying them sometime in 2015 - and that cannot possibly be true considering that one token has existed since 2018 and the other only since 2019. Therefore, your story gets even more illogical and some details definitely don't add up, and everyone has the right to be suspicious and not believe every story they read online.
1114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Satoshi got rid of his private keys? on: October 02, 2023, 10:20:27 AM
Well, that's kinda pointless discussion since we're not gonna find it out and that's all just pure guessing. And I think that Satoshi is dead by now. I hope he's not, but that sounds logical.

Your logic sounds quite illogical, because if you or anyone else stops being active on this forum, that would mean you are no longer alive? I know several members of the forum who are no longer active on the forum, but it has been confirmed that they are alive and that for some personal reasons they no longer have the time or will to be active here.

I think that Satoshi has left quite enough unequivocal statements from which it can be seen that he did not leave suddenly and in a hurry, and the last e-mail that Satoshi sent to Mike Hearn is more than clear.

I've moved on to other things.  It's in good hands with Gavin and everyone.

I do hope your BitcoinJ continues to be developed into an alternative client.  It gives Java devs something to work on, and it's easier with a simpler foundation that doesn't have to do everything.  It'll get critical mass when impatient new users can get started using it while the other one is still downloading the block chain.
1115  Other / Meta / Re: Are posts-reports in the "Report plagiarism..." thread stupid posts? on: October 02, 2023, 09:59:13 AM
Without getting into personal dramas, I will just say that moderators do not act on the basis of public posts (at least as far as I know), but only in case someone reports plagiarism using the "report to moderator" button. Therefore, I would not call such a way of attracting the moderator's attention stupid, but perhaps in some way unnecessary considering the way in which every plagiarized post is dealt with.

On the other hand, we could see that the number of report posts is decreasing from month to month, and one of the reasons is that an atmosphere has been created on the forum that this way of contributing to the forum is a waste of time. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but on the other hand, everyone can use their time the way they want.
1116  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 02, 2023, 09:45:03 AM
What is happening? Sunday pump? Why?  Shocked

Short liquidations on crypto-tracked futures may have contributed to the rise in bitcoin and ether. Data shows some $94 million in bets against rising prices were impacted on Sunday, creating a “short squeeze” – which occurs when there is a lack of supply and an excess of demand for the stock due to short sellers having to buy stocks to cover their short.

Some 30,000 bearish bets were liquidated, the data shows, with most liquidations taking place on the crypto exchange OKX.

This is one of the possible explanations, but again some will say that it is only October - the leaves are falling from the trees, the price of BTC is rising Smiley

In mid-2010, Satoshi transferred bitcoin.org to Gavin Andresen. Andresen explained, “I started to submit code to Satoshi to improve the core system. Over time he trusted my judgment on the code I wrote. And eventually, he pulled a fast one on me because he asked me if it’d be OK if he put my email address on the bitcoin homepage, and I said yes, not realizing that when he put my email address there, he’d take his away. I was the person everyone would email when they wanted to know about bitcoin. Satoshi started stepping back as leader of [the] project and pushing me forward”.

Those people who are no longer active today (at least not on the forum) know very well why Satoshi decided to leave Bitcoin to them, because it was they who asked for it, which is quite evident from their communication. I already wrote that Satoshi must have felt all that negative energy, in addition to the fact that his main collaborator started to turn to the dark side (I'm referring to Gavin and his visits to places he shouldn't have gone), which he later described as a possible reason why Satoshi got scared, along with of course Wiki which started accepting BTC as donations and the famous comment "we touched the hornet's nest".

However, I wonder if it would have been different if Satoshi had left in 2012 or 2014 and not in 2010 - I think it's better if he left earlier, not only for "peace in the house", but also for his own safety.

What is the fact that in the early days Satoshi was nowhere near as popular as it is today - back then some were very openly calling for his "removal of authority", while today Satoshi is a true legend, and some like Gavin are not only no longer around Bitcoin, but they became hated figures because they were so "intelligent" that they started calling cheaters by his name.
1118  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] The Anon virtual VISA card, No personal information needed. on: October 01, 2023, 01:37:10 PM
It will never be clear to me how someone can even create a business based on this kind of business model, which, from the perspective of the legal framework, cannot possibly succeed. VISA is not some nonsense company through which money can be "transferred" in this way without the users being identified.

~snip~
We would love to waive the card creation fees for a couple of trusted members, let me know if you can suggest any members (our maybe yourself).

This means absolutely nothing (unfortunately), because it does not prevent you from performing an exit scam at any time. However, everyone is the master of their own money and reputation, but I personally would never vouch for something like this.
1119  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Cloudbet scammed me for 1BTC on: October 01, 2023, 01:08:48 PM
Based on your response, I can tell that you didn’t actually read the entire post and didn’t click on the links provided. This is far more than losing money and that I “think” I was lured in.

First of all, don't post multiple posts in a row, it's against the rules of the forum - you can reply to the posts of several users in one post.

Regardless of everything, you can still ask the casino to return what you lost, especially if there is already a similar case that you can refer to, but it is obvious that they (the casino) will try to avoid it in all possible ways without breaking the law.

All you have to do is be persistent and use all available platforms in order to achieve what you want. Honestly, this is the first time I've come across a case like this, because first they allowed you to gamble even though by law you shouldn't have been able to, and now that you've lost you can legally ask them to return your deposit.

No matter how this case ends, everything that happened leaves the impression of unprofessionalism on the part of the casino, and I wonder if the Australian authorities will take any action, given that the casino operated completely illegally in Australia.
1120  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning]: New Xenomorph Android malware targets more crypto wallets/banks on: October 01, 2023, 11:01:03 AM
TOR again is gonna be dead slow, so no one is going like that, to be honest so is preferable when it is something sensitive apart from that Firefox or Brave is good but Chrome will be there and track all the user activity even if we never opened it for months which we have to disable it in the settings.
~snip~

This is not always the case, but in general, when you use Tor or VPN, you can often expect that the loading speed of websites will be somewhat slower compared to when you do not use them. However, for those who value privacy, "slowness" will not be an obstacle, especially if in this way they can additionally protect themselves from such malware.

I am kind of picturing how this actually begins.
It is something like a popup while we browsing on sites and asking us to update Chrome or whatever apps.
~snip~

According to the information in the first thread posted by @lovesmayfamilis, this malware spreads in the following way :

Quote
"Xenomorph v3 is currently being distributed via the Zombinder platform on the Google Play Store, posing as a currency converter and switching to using the Play Protect icon after installing a malicious payload."

This means that, as always, great caution is required when downloading apps from any location, including from the Google Play Store, which is not efficient when it comes to absolute filtering of malicious apps. In other words, limit the number of apps you have on your smartphone and download only those that have been around for a long time and have a very large number of downloads and good reviews.
