1202  Economy / Economics / Re: 1.34 trillion asset manager Deutsche Bank to offer Bitcoin service on: September 18, 2023, 10:26:02 AM
You are right, but you cannot change some people's minds. Some people are so stubborn that you cannot convince them against anything they think is right. Actually, the whole point is bringing more people onboard. Let people decide how they want to manage their funds, but at first let them use bitcoin. Some of them might move themselves towards self-custodial methods in the future.
~snip~

I don't see anything positive in the fact that a bank that has been in big trouble for years will offer a service that, at least when it comes to Bitcoin, not only makes no sense, but is also potentially risky for anyone who uses such a service. Those who are not able to install a digital wallet or buy HW should not even engage in such investments - not to mention that storing Bitcoin in this way loses its true meaning.

By mentioning their management size, we can imagine a clear picture of their experience and influence. If someone thinks that they are going to put all of their assets into bitcoin, they lack common sense. If these asset managers manage 1% of their total assets, that will be impactful as well. Just think how many asset managers applied for ETFs, and what if they all put 1% of their total assets toward buying bitcoin?

Their assets under management are about 10 times smaller than BlackRock's, or 4-5 times smaller than Fidelity's - and besides, we are talking about the EU, where Bitcoin is nowhere near as popular as in the US. I do not believe that this will be the case even if a large bank offers this kind of service.

Besides, who in their right mind would allow their cryptocurrencies to be kept by a bank that constantly appears in the media in a negative context?

~snip~
So do you also agree that bitcoin  can be said not be banned despite ban on local banks not getting involved with it?
Please let's discuss as I would really want to hear the opinions of others about  this.

Bitcoin can be banned as a currency, which is, for example, the case in Turkey or Thailand, but at the same time it can be allowed to trade with it, which could be called a partial ban. However, some countries may introduce a complete ban on paying, trading, and even owning Bitcoin, but this cannot prevent an individual from carrying out all these actions in a way that does it all in the background, away from the eyes of their authorities.

In other words, you cannot on an individual level prohibit someone from doing anything with Bitcoin, but you can only try to make it difficult or discourage them from doing it. After all, did Satoshi ask permission from anyone to start Bitcoin?

p.s: Is there any TOR guide for how to use it for Bitcointalk? Would really appreciate it.

There is no special guide on how to use TOR on this forum or anywhere else, it is a browser like any other, with the difference that by using such a browser you get a certain amount of privacy. Some will say that it is much easier for them to use a VPN, but that is only because they have never even tried TOR - which is not a problem if they have an attitude like yours.

Most people generally have no need to protect their privacy, and if you do something very bad, even with the use of TOR, there is a high probability that you will be located by those who have the resources for such things.

1205  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Loss of assets in hardware wallets?! on: September 17, 2023, 02:22:52 PM
~snip~

1. People lose their cryptocurrencies regardless of how they store them, whether it's hacking a CEX, downloading a fake wallet, clipboard malware, or exposing their backup or maybe losing it after a while. When it comes to HW, there is always the possibility that at some point someone malicious did something wrong, which means that it could be someone in the factory or the one who delivers the package.

As far as I know, none of the companies that have gained a reputation have ever been accused of such things, but when it comes to HW, people mostly lose their cryptocurrencies because they enter seeds into fake wallets or are victims of clipboard malware that changes the coin address without them knowing.

2. You can't know that, the only thing you can do is trust that the company you bought the device from has no bad intentions. However, if the device is open source, then I think there is a possibility to verify the method by which the seed is created, i.e. that this method is safe and random.

3. For me, Ledger lost its reputation a long time ago, which you can read about in many threads in this board, and as for the second choice, I can't say anything because I'm not familiar with how good or bad it is. The prevailing opinion right now is that best HW for Bitcoin is Passport, which of course has a price that you should be ready to pay.

Also, using and securing manmonic phrases or privet keys seems inconvenient for many of us, so using NFT's or some other possible ways to make your bitcoin wallets back up grandma-friendly will be a major development for wide adaptation of the bitcoin network.

I don't know if it's just a typo or if you use the wrong names for some things, but before you publish a post, I would recommend you to use the "preview" button and check the content of the post Wink

As for the whole idea of wallets becoming friendly even for grandmothers, I think we have to be realistic with the fact that Bitcoin will be used mostly by people who have a solid level of education and are interested in new technologies. All these stories about mass adaptation are for me just one big fantasy that has little to do with reality, although some persistently push it as something that must happen at any cost.

In addition, the whole idea of the already famous Ledger recovery project was allegedly born from the fact that some geniuses within the company thought that this would bring "crypto" closer to their mothers and grandmothers.

All these needs to be user friendly that non tech dude can set up this rules only by clicking few steps.

If by some chance we manage to simplify Bitcoin to the point where it's as easy as using a bank card at an ATM, I'll just ask question - would that mean the average Joe would start using Bitcoin because of it? I am of the opinion that the reason why so few people use Bitcoin is not that it is too complicated, but that the general attitude promoted by the media is still negative, and people still believe in what they fill their brains with all the time.
1208  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Faruk Fatih Özer, founder of Thodex found guilty sentenced to 11,196 years on: September 17, 2023, 10:43:22 AM
@Lucius - probably it's just a way by the court that he will die in the jail already as there are no death sentence in Turkey if I'm not mistaken. And it's likely that Turkey could have one of the toughest law for defrauding investors and laundering assets.

However, such a number of years is a sentence that makes no sense to me personally, because as I have already written, it would be enough if they sentenced him to 100 years in prison without the possibility of a pardon, or even without the possibility of a pardon until 2/3 of the sentence has expired, which would be approximately in 66 years.

In any case, this would mean that the convict will remain in prison for life, of course if he does not escape from prison or the law is not changed in the meantime and, for example, he receives a pardon from the president or prime minister, as is usually the case in some countries.
1209  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What motivated you to join the forum? on: September 17, 2023, 10:35:30 AM
Why ban the bounty board? The problem is not that this board exists, the problem is that beginners do not allocate their steps correctly. The correct step is to first learn the basics of cryptocurrencies, then try to make money. I'm sure most bounty participants have little to no specialized knowledge and all their skills are mostly centered on smarts, registration and copypasting. Nowadays you don't even need to copypaste, you just need to register with some AI bot and it will generate all sorts of content for the bounty itself, starting from articles and ending with various pictures.

The very fact that such a board exists allows some people to become members of this forum because someone put the bug in their ear that this is a place where you can make money. Furthermore, it is no secret that most of these bounty campaigns promote very questionable (not to mention scam projects) and that all those who you claim have no experience and knowledge are actually naive victims who are left at the mercy of those who exploit them without stopping .

If we are already talking about bans being bad, then those who run such campaigns should have been at least forced not to accept beginners and Jr. members, so every member would learn something until he becomes Member rank.

For me, that system is generally bad, but it obviously suits the forum and those who make a profit out of it, and that means that everything will remain as it was. In that case, it is not fair to put all the blame on the backs of those beginners, they are only doing what they are allowed to do.
1210  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will reach all-time-high before halving. - BitQuant on: September 16, 2023, 02:07:05 PM
Who the hell is this QuantRant that such a tweet should be considered worthy of discussion? @Tytanowy Janusz wrote an excellent post and there is hardly anything to add, except that those speculating about a new ATH before the halving have only one thing in mind, and that is the possible approval of the spot BTC ETF in the US.

Given that the deadline for the SEC to make its decision is sometime in early 2024, it is logical that all these "experts" compete in their speculations, which in the end are nothing more than that. I really don't want to speculate too much about the prices, it is realistic to say that it will be somewhere between $70k and maybe $150k at the peak, although there is a possibility that it will be much more.

1212  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: safepal or ellipal titan mini on: September 16, 2023, 01:19:43 PM
For bitcoin-only hardware wallet, you can go for Passport hardware wallet.

It seems to me that the OP has no problem only with that he claims that Passport HW is not available in his country, but that the price of the same is about x4 higher than SafePal if we take into account the total price with shipping and customs costs. Regardless of the fact that Passport is perhaps the best choice when it comes to HW at the moment, only those who are exclusively interested in BTC and have significant value in it will buy it.
1213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be the biggest means of fulfilling dreams in the future. on: September 16, 2023, 01:03:16 PM
~snip~
So if you want to fulfill your dreams in life then invest in Bitcoin then you will be able to fulfill your dreams very soon.

What can go wrong if you go all in Bitcoin?

- In the future, the most powerful countries in the world will make a decision that trading with BTC is illegal, they will close all CEXs and the price will drop drastically.

- In x years from your investment, thieves will break into your house and steal your backup, or force you to send them all your BTC in a transaction.

- In x years from your investment, you will try to sell your BTC and only then realize that something is wrong with the backup, and you will no longer have access to the original wallet.

- In x years from your investment, some natural disaster will happen and your backup will disappear.

It is true that it is easiest to buy Bitcoin, but all the risks arising from such an investment should be taken into account. I wonder if people like you will ever understand what Bitcoin is all about...

And looks like the pandemic and war in Ukraine didn't stop rich people from getting richer... in the past years their profits are hitting the roofs, but we "slaves need to work harder". And we need to drive less, apparently, my car produces more pollution than Jeff Bezos's 500 million-dollar yacht.

The rich become even richer precisely during economic crises and wars, because then they can manipulate the market even more and convince people to work more for less and that they do everything in their power to make us better off. When you already mentioned Comrade Bezos and his empire, I remember how during the pandemic he even asked for help/donations to pay his workers, the same ones who tell stories every day about what it's like to work for him.

These are the most ordinary hypocrites who will publicly call out people that they need to allocate their money better and reduce their carbon footprint, while at the same time their planes, yachts and super cars together with their companies are destroying the environment at an incredible speed - all for profit, of course.
1215  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What motivated you to join the forum? on: September 16, 2023, 10:14:34 AM
All the people who come here solely to make money, most often either leave unnoticed or are glorified by various abuses, by creating many alternative accounts and abusing campaigns. What benefit do such people bring to the community and to the forum? There is no benefit, only parasitization. A lot of newcomers coming to the forum, should realize at once one simple truth that the forum is not a place to earn money, no one promises here any monetary rewards for writing posts. Properly motivated newcomers always ask a lot first, and then try to share their knowledge by creating posts and threads.

However, you have to take into account that they are doing something that is allowed to them, because otherwise they would not become members of the forum at all. The administration could solve this at any time by simply banning bounty campaigns, but how much traffic would the forum lose in that case?

In addition, all these members are mostly within one board and the administration obviously does not perceive them as a problem, but as those who (although in the wrong way) bring new members to the forum. Of course, the question arises as to what is the use of such members, but some of them will sooner or later leave the bounty campaigns and become useful members of the forum.
1216  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Faruk Fatih Özer, founder of Thodex found guilty sentenced to 11,196 years on: September 15, 2023, 02:46:20 PM
It is not disputed that a man should be punished if he is proven guilty, but I have never understood the point of such long-term sentences, considering that people live on average less than 100 years in ideal conditions. Maybe when he dies, they will bury him inside the prison walls and keep him that way for the next 11 000+ years?

Justice is that the man responsible for the crime is in prison, but the sentence in itself has no meaning and it wouldn't make any difference if they sentenced him to 100 years in prison without the possibility of parole. If Bankman and Kwon had found themselves in that country, they would probably have received 100 000 years in prison each individually.
1217  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Australia will ban Gambling through credit cards on: September 15, 2023, 02:05:17 PM
I'm not someone who advocates bans and I'm more in favor of everyone using their money the way they want, but it seems that there comes a time when people need to be protected from themselves. Gambling should be fun and with a sense of responsibility, but when things get out of control and someone spends more than they earn, it becomes a problem.

The positive thing here is that Australia is actually giving up part of the income it gets from taxes considering the total amount its residents spend every year on gambling, to protect them from themselves. However, those who want to gamble will always find a way to do so, despite the bans.
1218  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 15, 2023, 01:26:51 PM
How can BNB still be worth so much after all that carry on this year?

Surely it should be way down the top 100 shitecoins list.

Market cap of $32 billion. How is this possible?

Shitcoins are truly shit.

 Roll Eyes

I think that something that is practically worthless can have such great value only if the man behind it all manages to convince millions that it is actually worth something. Considering that a lot of people have a very positive opinion of CZ, and consider him to be some kind of messiah who fights against the system, it's not surprising that he managed to sell his shitcoin to them as something that really has value.

In addition, marketcap is something that is the result of circulating supply times the price, and when you have almost 154 million of these tokens at a price of $200+, you get a very nice amount that then deceives people even more. I see a bigger problem in the people who buy it than in the fact that such a thing exists at all.
1219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some Countries living behind their century, taking a back sit on BTC evolution. on: September 15, 2023, 01:08:04 PM
Bangladesh, Domican Republic,  Bolivia, Nepal, Ghana,  Algeria and a host of other nations seems not to understand the times and seasons as regards world changing currency BTC, despite being accepted in most part of the world.

I don't understand what exactly these countries should understand and how Bitcoin should help them? If by some miracle tomorrow all these countries declare that Bitcoin is completely legal and also a legal tender, what would change in these countries in your opinion?

In addition, one of our members was recently in one of the countries you listed and bought BTC using an ATM, so everything is not as bad as it seems to you.

I personally think more awareness about  the benefits of trading with cryptocurrencies needs to be created particularly in nations where there are restrictions and banned on cryptocurrencies and also it should  be made more simple for easy use no matter the level of one  literacy. More work is needed. What are your thoughts?

You can tell people about Bitcoin as much as you want, but if they don't have a job and a roof over their heads and can't put enough food on their table every day, and they don't even have the internet or only have it occasionally - what will they do with Bitcoin even if someone give it as a gift - maybe transfer it with the help of a carrier pigeon that would carry private keys instead of letters Roll Eyes
