Gotta say this lifetime membership for founding members and additional voting rights suggestion is not a good sign.  If founding members feel they should have more voting rights than "normal members" one can't help but question their long-term motives.

1965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm having some doubts about whether it's ethical to make money off of Bitcoin on: June 11, 2014, 11:17:27 PM
You mean like a ponzi or pyramid scheme?  Supply and demand drives the price.  If all buy and sell stopped at one point in time the price will remain frozen.  But if all started selling at one time, the price plummets.  The rawest form of supply/demand economics there is.  Are there winners and losers?  Of course, depending on how you define "winning" and "losing".

i think his main concern for bitcoin is that it is neither a physical object and isn't backed by anything tangible or real.

can't we say the same about buying stock though?

And gold.  What would be the realistic price of gold if it was valued only by it's "tangible worth" ( jewelry and electronics) ?
If gold ever did get valued at it's actual usefulness or "tangible worth" I strongly suspect it would be worth far less than silver.

1970  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Are bitcoin gambling sites illegal in USA? on: June 11, 2014, 10:49:40 PM
If your going to try and run any kind of halfway successful gambling site and host it within the US and expect to not get noticed, or slip in under some more state-specific slightly more lenient terms...think again!  Your site generates enough revenue and it doesn't matter if your in the remotest out of the way place you can think of...they will find and tax the hell out of you.

This is awesome!  Is it just me or does it seem as though precious metals dealers accepting bitcoin is starting to become more of the norm.  Not too surprising this is one of the first industries to so quickly embrace BTC.

1974  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why is BITMAIN selling used products ? on: June 11, 2014, 08:25:19 PM
Welcome to the sad but true state of affairs in bitcoin mining.  Everybody is mining with their own equipment prior to shipping and if you think for one moment they are only burn-in testing these puppies for only a day or two your kidding yourself.

Now we wait for the herd mentality. That combined with the fact that a lot of wealthy people now have a vested interest in bit coin succeeding is huge. It is starting to happen.

Yes... a lot of UHNW individuals have made investment in Bitcoin recently. I don't know how many of them are speculators and how many of them are real investors. I just hope that most of them are genuine investors.

I think over time you will see a higher proportion of investors to speculators. As the price stabilizes there is less to be made from playing the margins.
Personally I think we are sometime away (2-3 years at least) away from the price "stabilizing"...in the meantime I suspect there will be a mad rush to purchase bitcoin here relatively soon.

1980  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-06-10] Moe Levin compares Bitcoin to the Internet of early 90's on: June 11, 2014, 07:12:59 PM

Consumers adopting bitcoin will probably take a while and it is great for receivers of payment.

Since nowadays things move at a much faster pace than they did back then, BTC mainstream adoption shouldn't take as long as it did for the Internet to catch on back in the 90s. Everything seems to happen 10x quicker today, thanks to the Internet of course  Grin

yay, ave Internet!
I am not an expert, but I suppose that in 5 years everyone will know what Bitcoin is, where to use it and how.
Of this I have little doubt.
