1141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin slowly loosing its popularity? on: July 29, 2014, 11:19:45 PM
thoughts?
If you define popularity as being how well known a person or thing is then I would have to say 'hell no'.  Bitcoin grows in popularity by the day.  Even negative news will getcha known by many.

If you wanna keep your BTC, DON'T INVEST
+100  At least not in either of the cryptx securities.  Hate to say it because I've been an investor for awhile but what you experienced on cex.io will essentially be the same but for different reasons.

Unless your some sort of numeric savant that dreams in Fibonacci sequences and know how to recognize trading patterns/trends your better off simply buying and holding your bitcoin.  And for sure, once you decide to put your 10BTC into ghash.io it won't be long (given current state of affairs with no reinvestment taking place now) before you'll likely regret it.

Why I wanna win?

Months ago I ventured deep into the mystical Silicon Forest only to stumble upon 3 different magical item's that I thought would help me not only make the world a better place but would ultimately allow me to triumph over evil (cough cough fiat).  They where guarded by an imposing demon called "esnes nommoc" who warned me why these things weren't nearly as pretty as they appeared...but these shiny glittery mirages proved far to much for me in the end.  I completely ignored the warnings of the demon and gladly gave up what was required of each item:
1.) a lock of hair (BitFunder, why for you no return my coins?)
2.) the promise of my first born (BFL, a long and sad story perhaps for another time)
3.) a pint of my own blood (alpha-technologies, apparently I gave my blood too early it must've subsequently coagulated into some unmanageable mess because they refuse to return it)
4.) and whatever paper-money i had available (hashfast, looks good that i might get back 2 or 3 cents on the dollar a year or two from now :/)

I willingly gave each of these precious things up in succession thinking the demon Esnes Nommoc was trying to deceive me...to keep me from the promised land and financial independence.  In retrospect I sure wish I would've listened to that ole demon!

Crap.  After re-reading the OP I just realized that I had just spend an additional 0.001 btc for a 5th ticket I would've received an additional ticket for free.  Lemme know if I can purchase 1 additional ticket for 2 once you've updated the OP please.

Little surprised it took them this long to warm  back up to bitcoin.  I'm thinking perhaps Dell jumping on the band-wagon recently might have light the proverbial fire under some arses at Apple!

Now that's freaking funny.

On a serious note escrow.dude what is the reason for your premium?  Honestly, I mean that's pretty high.

1154  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S3 - Profit is Impossible on: July 28, 2014, 10:43:02 PM
Just my two cents.

GPU mining early + Selling LTC at the right time + Buying S1s at the right time + purchasing A1s at $1.25/GH + Antminer S3s + Free Power = A perfect storm wherein I've been able to ROI and sustain purchases.

I don't think I'm the only one in this boat.
My purchases were made through retail channels without any special discounts.

There is also the chance that we will continue to see sub 20% diff. growth over the next few months. As others have stated, we've hit a bit of a wall in terms of asic dev. We're not in the same boat as we were this month last year.

I will agree though, I'm finding it harder and harder to make an argument to my friends and colleagues to begin mining. Unless you have a special set of circumstances (free power) and can invest in a substantial amount of hardware, the potential gains are not worth the risks over buying and holding.

Unless you always just want to mine as a hobby, and hope you ROI.
Plenty of folks do this.
They like the blikenlights.

The S1 has awesome blikenlights.

Well said you lucky <beep> you.  But yeah, them lights shure are purdy Smiley

SWIFT Institute Offers €15,000 for Bitcoin Research Project

they should embrace it.
In the long-term they will ultimately have to or be left behind.  Paper money will likely be a thing of the past in a generation or two I suspect.

Glad to see them putting forth some sort of effort nonetheless Wink
1157  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-28] What do bitcoin and gold investors have in common? on: July 28, 2014, 09:43:22 PM
The creators and author somehow don't see how the two statements are at odds with one another:
"Add mistrust of centralized authority" and "Independence Coin, the first gold-backed crypto-money".  If it is "gold-backed" there must be a "centralized authority" that is holding the backings for these coins.  This centralized authority is ripe for attack by criminals or governments around the world.

In short, if you "mistrust [a] centralized authority" why would you trust this unknown company when you don't need to with bitcoin?

Seems like either a pump-and-dump or that someone decided they wanted to get in on the bitcoin hype and so created this hybrid which takes the worst of gold and the worst of bitcoin and makes something that is the worst of two worlds.

I applaud innovation, but this doesn't seem to be it.

So I think the answer to the Jeopardy statement "It’s what you get when you combine bitcoin [with gold]" is: what is the worst of two worlds?
Totally agree, trying to blend centralised and decentralised authority and calling it a good thing just shows they really don't get what the blockchain is.
I toyed with this idea when I first heard of bitcoin, but dismissed it once i'd seen my first Antonopolous video.
Hard to not fall in love with Bitcoin once you've had an opportunity to hear him speak Wink
1158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Order Batch 1 Now! on: July 28, 2014, 09:26:48 PM
Starting to wonder whether a 'forced refund' scenario might be applicable here.  Refusing delivery and demanding re-payment in full.  Assuming they ever do ship that is.

Hot Damn NotALambChop, you are either the cleverest BS'er around or one helluva investigative virturoso with the online research and such.  You have actual proof of any of this?  Particularly the shell corp. packages you cited?  Proof they actually used these very 'kits'?
