2101  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: In 2015, faucets are bad for bitcoin on: March 11, 2015, 06:50:47 PM
When BTC started, nobody had any and it was worthless, so it was right to give away thousands of BTC to make it popular. All that has changed. Now that BTC's worth something, now that companies are building on BTC, now that serious business transactions are made with bitcoin, it's about time for faucets to adapt.

BTC is real. It's money, and you've got to work to earn some. I hope all faucets will disappear in 2015. Faucets are hurting bitcoin by making some people believing you can get it while doing nothing sitting in your home. No, BTC isn't like that, and it shouldn't be any easier to get than any fiat currency. Even for small amounts.

you are wrong.  faucets encourage adoption, which is good.  amounts to get in faucets are fractions of fractions of a penny
2102  Economy / Speculation / Re: Should I sell my EUROs? on: March 07, 2015, 03:30:45 AM
Euro price going down. Sell or hodl?

Too late to sell Euro for USD now if you hadn't already, maybe at the next dead cat bounce. I do expect euro to reach dollar parity pretty soon but not before another bounce. Buying BTC however is a better bet imo, BTC is still undervalued and has recently started an uptrend (daily EMA's 20/50 cross and SMA's 20/50 both trending up now). Nobody knows how long this will last but since it's pretty fresh I think moving some euros into BTC is a pretty good bet right now. Personally I'm hardly holding any euros for a while now, just enough to pay my bills and living expenses. Smiley

Art Cashin (cnbc) said euro could go to parity if US raised rates while rest of the world is easing.  IMO rates will never rise again substantially, if they do markets will crap pretty bad.  Even now multinationals based in america are losing sales everywhere due to high dollar, etc.  So its a tough trade but it all depends on the FED.

anybody who does "cloud mining" is 1. an idiot or 2. uninformed and was just scammed, but he does not know it
2104  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: After ASIC what comes next? on: February 26, 2015, 08:39:51 PM
A little random, but Im supprised that everyone seems so sarcastic about quantum computing: certain labs have been able to send data using quantum computing and were even able to run the most basic algorithm that would be predicted to work. It may not sound like much, but quantum computing will be something will have access to relatively soon.

Quantum computing has a few issues.

1) We are a very very long way from making a working quantum computer.  All that we can do at the moment is create a quantum bit (qbit) and manipulate it in simple ways.

2) Quantum computing is not deterministic with exact answers as in traditional computing.   Instead a quantum computer would give results with a probability of being correct.   A program run on a quantum computer may give a slightly different result each time it is run.

Quantum computing has some similarities to analog computing.

3) Quantum computers cannot solve anything beyond that possible with traditional computers.  They are just theoretically faster for specific problems.

In more detail a qbit is the quantum equivalence of the traditional computing 0 and 1 except it has a probability of being any value between 0 and 1.  For example a qbit could be loaded with a 25% probability of being 1, thus an 75% probability of being a 0.  Various operations are then available to manipulate and combine qbit probabilities.  It is only when the final result is read out that everything reverts to the traditional 0 and 1 world based on the final probabilities.

See for example http://gizmodo.com/whats-wrong-with-quantum-computing-1444793497
and
http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~robins/The_Limits_of_Quantum_Computers.pdf

Yes but understand this:  If quantum mining is 10000000000000x better than asic, then the financial incentive to discover it first is, well, very, very, very large.  at first of course.  good for developement
2105  Economy / Service Discussion / SOMETHING TO SUPPORT: bitgamer.tv ! fully crypto enabled streaming site on: February 26, 2015, 08:34:10 PM

2106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The ICO/Pre-sale/crowd funding "Marketing Scam" on: February 25, 2015, 01:53:32 AM
99% of all ico/ipo etc are already scam.
I think Smart people don't invest those shit.

yup.  I'll repeat it so everyone understands.  IN A LAND BEFORE TIME, THERE WAS PRE-MINE.  THEN GOD CAME OUT AND SAID - NO MORE PREMINE - ITS A SCAM.  Greedy devs then Instamined their coins with scammy block rewards !  So GOD came down with thunder and said NO MORE !  but the greedy devs who felt their worthless work needed to be highly paid simply premined and offered it to the public - the ICO was born.  it is a plague which has infected many.  many have died.  many more will die.
2107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: lost 1000$ in dogecoin investment on: February 25, 2015, 01:50:15 AM
doge is a joke coin. a meme made into a coin. a troll coin to legitimite alt coins

it has the life cycle of any normal meme. first hype, then people get bored with it and jump to the next.

e.g. earthcoin has a EAC/us-dollar-only  exchange planned, a android wallet and has a huge dev team behind it.

doge has what? a meme? that is of no use.  dev team? you mean one guy who thinks the doge meme is funny. tomorrow he'll think something else is funny.

doge is as good as dead. and so are the inevitable cat/nyancat/[enter any meme people might have heard of]coins

this business is about serious alternatives to litecoin and bitcoin. not about having a laugh

You are wrong.

Doge has a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEE community.  bigger than any altcoin.  might even be bigger than bitcoin.

-sent bobsleigh team (jamaica) to olympics ? check
-water to people who need water? check
THE DOGECAR Huh? Y U NO WATCH NASCAR Huh ITS GLORIOUS

-and various other charity events/fundraisers for people in need.

doge has been here over a year now.  doge meme is still funny.  stop pumping EAC...was just bought up while dirt cheap (relative) and now huge holders need to unload on people.  only reason.  don't diss doge, its pretty much one of the only altcoins that actually DOES something.
2108  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 22, 2015, 08:12:01 PM
How loud is this compared to S3?
Much louder compared to the S3.

If the S3 could be classified as a "comfortable" volume, then the S5 would be classified as "very loud" by comparison (off the top of my head, I think the S3's are ~55dBA, and the S5's are ~70dBA)

I think you meant S5's are 70000000000000000000000000000000000000 dba
2109  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 20, 2015, 03:16:28 AM
My S5 lost half its hashrate today. Its been about 8 hrs of reduced cycle.  This is my first bitcoin miner.  How should I approach troubleshooting?

Switch the power supply off. Count to 20. Switch it on.

If this doesn't help you might want to try another PSU, try powering one blade at a time, swap controller cables, swap controller ports.

It`s not a PSU issue, i have 2 s5 on 2 different PSU A 750w and a 1000W, and yes they drop to half speed alot ramdomly, ( NOT OC`ed ), sometime after 10-20 mins they will go back up to full speed, sometime not, and sometime totally freeze up and need a PSU reset.

i would have to assume it`s a firmware bug

It's odd. I went from Nicehash and rebooting every few hours to ghash and once a day reboots to f2pool and 9 days uptime straight. Could be pool related.

s5 has issues apparently when mining low difficulty coins, so on nicehash it can cause problems
2110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The future of cryptocurrencies on: February 16, 2015, 04:35:01 PM
well considering bitcoin is utter shit in respect to transaction/confirmation times....

i've personnally waited over what...half a day.. for the system to find a block.  this has no relation to fees or anything, just for bitcoin to FIND a block.  it happens sometimes.  in the best of times we are looking at 10 minutes on average.

it is not practical for daily/everyday/point of sale use.  which is why altcoins imo came to light.

-hey wanna buy my ps3 game? sure!  ok transfer me bitcoins on your phone to mine
-stand around for 45 minutes Huh

fuck that

-send me DOGECOINS
-5 seconds later
-confirmed

-see ya!

As long as the community refuses to address this problem, bitcoin will remain a shit coin in respect to point of sale and transactions IRL.
2111  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S6 speculation on: February 14, 2015, 01:13:50 AM
Oh.  Thanks for the answer guys.

Yeah scrypt/litecoin has gone to the shitters...but i find a lot of fun coins to mine/discover aren't SHA-256 and if a scrypt/other algo asic was DECENTLY priced i would buy it just for fun.  I used to mine obscure coins and hope for the best.  most didnt work out (im looking at you magic internet money...that was fun though), but some did, and that was very profitable.
2112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Earthcoin a scam? on: February 14, 2015, 01:10:19 AM
Well, apparently Earthcoin is still alive and kicking so it's possibly not a scam http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/earthcoin/ $ 30 000 in volume.

Just because a coin is pumped doesn't mean it isn't a scam. I recall calling the gold merchant they said accepted Earthcoin way back at launch, they had no idea what an earthcoin was. Technically it is a good sign is stuff like this is being pumped though, maybe the ICO instascam stuff is running out of steam, and that is far worse.

earthcoin has been around for ages also...price is rock bottom, unless it goes in into ltc/eac territory...

ICO shit is pure shitstorm of shit.  Like shit tsunami mixed with shit volcano spewing lava-shit.  it was "invented" (its IPO also....just replaced public by coin) because greedy shit devs were getting heat with premine, then instamine, etc.  so they decided to have ICO's to pre-sell premine...sigh.
2113  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S6 speculation on: February 12, 2015, 08:36:06 PM
Remember Bitmain had 100mh/s miners for scrypt?

Did they deliver (it was pre-order?), and how/why did that turn out/no more scrypt miners?

I'd buy a scrypt miner if it was decently priced, there aren't really any options now.
2114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Šogecoin on: February 12, 2015, 08:32:32 PM
A huge doge pump to the moon would be such wow

it literally would be the best pump anybody can do, the doge-wagon will go along.  then of course an epic dump but imagine the pump.  doge to 1$ I say

2116  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Bitmain Antminer S5 on: February 08, 2015, 11:57:02 PM
Hm...How loud is this monsta???I'm worry about that..

It's definitely loud.  You can replace the fans to make it quieter if you need to.

Its so loud, that if i open my garage up i can hear it from the other side of the street.  its really, really, really, really, you will not be able to live with this near you loud.  I'm biased though - i have an s3+ right beside it lol.
2117  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 05, 2015, 10:39:19 PM
if you know how to manage your miners, you can ROI, i bought some s3 and they ROI'ed in 2.5 months including electricity, but if you just point them at a bitcoin pool and forget about them ya, you might never ROI

Could you point me to a thread with tips on what can be done to manage miners to achieve a better ROI?  Or would you please start one?

rent them out on westhash.com or nicehash.com for example.  For example during the whole paycoin scam..eh I mean hype the rates were up to like 0.05 btc per th and even higher....so in 3 days i got like 0.15btc for 1 s3+.  considering i paid 0.525 or something, (+stupid ups fees/taxes)
2118  Economy / Speculation / Re: ❢❢❢ How many coins is a lot? (Finally, answer inside!) on: February 05, 2015, 10:35:04 PM
too bad bitcoin is worse than the worst country on earth for wealth distribution in my opinion....
