221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 22, 2016, 10:40:06 PM
So shapeshift seems to be having problems. Earlier my order didn't go through and they are in the process of returning my funds. Now I tried to exchange with additional funds and Monero is not on their list to exchange to. Anyone know of another creditable site that will exchange and send to my wallet?

I don't know about before but Monero is listed now.

Hey Guys, just started using xmr and have an issue I hope someone can help me out with. Ok I opened a Web wallet at my monero and have made numerous buys using bitcoin and shapeshift with no problems. I also installed v.10 node and simple wallet on my laptop and have transferred from my monero to my wallet on the laptop also with no problem. Now I tried to go directly from BTC-->shapeshift-->simple wallet. Everything seemed to go throught, shapeshift says it's all done but nothing shows up in simple wallet, no pending, balance and locked balance haven't changed, refreshed many times also and no TXID. The only thing I did different with shapeshift is I didn't put a payment ID since the user guide stated I didn't need to do this if I own the address. I did this going from my monero and simple wallet and it workout fine. I'm really hoping it's not the payment ID since I heard it could be lost forever if that the case. Can anyone offer some advise other than contact shapeshift?  Thanks in advance.

Payment ID is not the issue.   Sometimes an exchange from Bitcoin to Monero just doesn't happen when it should and sometimes it just gets delayed for a while. One recent purchase of mine just did not happen and another got delayed for maybe 4 hours before it showed up. Their customer service is good but their hours are listed as 11 a.m. 8 p.m. Monday through Friday Eastern Time.

It took 2 days for me.
2 days of continuous thrashing of the HDD.
Obviously we need an SSD...

That was a problem for my old machine with cheap HDD and 4GB RAM.  Not enough memory makes the HDD work harder.  Maybe it fried mine?

New machine = still HDD but better and 8GB RAM.  Estimated snyc time was <12 hrs.
After the patch some months ago, memory is not a problem anymore. It only consumes a tiny amount.

Yes that is when I started running a node full time.  Syncing is the real problem here. After it was synced I did notice some lagging of some programs at those times when it was writing to disk. With the new computer even while  syncing from scratch no problem.

My 2+ year old <$300 comp's HDD  just died.  Of course nothing is backed up except on the computer itself.

God damn it Carl.  You had one job!   Cheesy

As proof that I am the luckiest man alive, this morning I downloaded electrum and went to recover my bitcoin wallets.   On one of the wallets I missed three seed words. It was the one that was empty Cool

Next stop after syncing is Monero wallets. Tongue

@OrangeP

You have no idead dude how uninteresting these markets are atm for companies like goldman sachs etc. We talk about 12 Billion Dollar. That is nothing for them compared to stock exchanges. You have to learn a lot about this business. Cause they earn money with capital investmens, share holding and stock rollouts like facebook. A companie like Apple could buy all currencies over night.

We are with crypto what internet was with 56k modem in the 90s buddys.

This is why I'm sure they are not in the game. The market cap. would be much bigger.
What I'm trying to say is that they will not join the game. They will try to kill it.

edit: I'm a long term "small"-bag-holder. I also trade with small amounts for over 3 years now (without any notable success yet).

...

To wit, the firm sees blockchain technology as nothing more than a “fundamentally new type of database technology.” And as far as Goldman’s interests are concerned such as high-volume commercial transactions and sharing data between partners, it expects private blockchains to reign supreme.

...

Maybe they mean internal blockchains, maybe they want a more confidential Bitcoin, maybe they want Monero, maybe they hedge a bit and keep an eye on all disruptive developments...

By private they mean internal, controlled by them or shared only with similar entities like themselves.  Just what Satoshi envisioned  Grin

On the lighter side I bought a new comp.  It's an interim comp good enough so it won't crap out anytime soon but bad enough that I will still keep dreaming.

Thanks to all that gave advice Smiley

Link it.

Why, are you trying to embarrass me?  Windows 10 Embarrassed  The link to the store I bought it from isn't working so here is Dell's
http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-3650-desktop/pd?oc=fddclot201b&model_id=inspiron-3650-desktop
i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD

I just needed something quick.  I think I will replace the HDD in the old machine with a SSD and turn it into a Monero only linux machine.  That will be a big deal for me but I have an idea on how to make it easy.  Something about bananas.

I have no idea how long to sync the 0.10 blockchain because even though I choose the setting that my comp does not go to sleep, it went to sleep while I was sleeping. Tongue  It is now continuing to sync.

Core continues to strangle BTC's transaction capacity for some (idiotic) reason. Money still flowing into alts.

A large price drop is practically guaranteed.

You have been on this blocksize limit kick for quite a while, and seeming to continue to ignore actual facts regarding ongoing and continuing developments, including the pending implementation of seg wit (including the timeline involved for its vetting and testing prior to implementation).

Is it April yet?

I haven't installed  Wolfram Warptangent yet but it looks like I will do so on a brand new computer.  My 2+ year old <$300 comp's HDD  just died.  Of course nothing is backed up except on the computer itself. I have seeds.

I'll need to get one off the shelf tomorrow probably at Micro Center.  Any advice for the resident company idiot?

Try to get one with a ssd hd, and make sure you don't get some really old/refurbished cheap one that has a cpu without aes-ni.

Now that I feel rich I can get a nice one. I'll just use that new credit card I got.  What's one more maxed out credit card?

Here's a 256GB SSD for $60 from MicroCenter
https://slickdeals.net/f/9119131-256gb-toshiba-q300-pro-solid-state-drive-66-or-less?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1

Thanks but I don't know if my computer supports an SSD and I would have to put an OS on it.  Only my son in law has the ability to help and he is not near by.  Wait I may be seeing them this weekend.  Hmmmm

You are joking right?

No.  Do I pay off CC or buy more Monero?  Obviously buy more Monero.  One of the best things I ever did.  Less than 2 years ago I was eying the last can of beans on the shelf. Now I have beans and Monero.

Uh-oh.  We're running out of Monero again....

Hey you broke ass chump moon child, can you answer this?  At this point in time why do I still have any btc?

In case of dumps, eh?  Some low-ball bids are always good in case someone decides they need a boat.

Yeah but I don't trade or sell which makes one a broke ass chump while waiting for dumps. (from 0.003 to 0.015+)

Excuses...something about baskets and eggs .........very limited time during any one day that I can buy .........by the time I have digested the changes and made a decision, it changes Tongue  I be slow, things are fast now.

Really I have nothing to complain about.  I guess it's normal to question.  Lest not forget the good decisions. Smiley

Once again, thank you moon child  Wink

Crosspost:

New Monero Version: 0.10.0 "Wolfram Warptangent"

https://github.com/monero-project/monero/releases

Awesome! And the below seems to be an important detail:

Quote
Updating: Blockchain Conversion

Due to the space savings and performance gains it is again highly recommended that you delete the contents of your Monero working directory and sync from scratch. This directory can be found in ~/.bitmonero on Linux and OS X, and on Windows in \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\bitmonero or \ProgramData\bitmonero.

Deleting the contents means deleting everything including the wallets. I understand to back up but are we to delete everything?

The preceding question was brought to you by the resident computer idiot.

The author of that article used the term 'illuminati' ergo I've no interest in his opinion.

The day will come when you have no choice but to use a blockchain

What is your choice the BTC blockchain or the banks blockchain

Let's take a look..............

USC is an asset-backed digital cash instrument implemented on distributed ledger technology for use within global institutional financial markets. USC is a series of cash assets, with a version for each of the major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, CHF, etc.) and USC is convertible at parity with a bank deposit in the corresponding currency. Just like btc!!!

And here after I finally decided to buy all the way down up we go;D  At least I got some @~150

The change is coins off the sell side and although the total buy side is similar many of those bids have moved up so now >600btc above 150 after a few hours ago almost nothing there.

Edit:  Oh wait, rangedriver Tongue  Ok got it Cool
