@GingerAle
After downloading it I extracted it to a new folder. After trying to sync and then closing the 0.9 daemon, the new folder disappeared and a lmdb folder appeared in my bitmonero folder.

bummer. for the record, the link in my sig is not *my* win64 beta binaries, they were the ones released for testing. when you say "stuck".. what happened? Did you try restarting it? sorry for the OT.
Moved from spec thread.......... Again I decided to download the entire BC instead of trying to figure out the converter and it was zipping along and the a mere 270 blocks from the end it kept repeatedly saying it was 270 blocks behind. Again I was not at my comp for a while and I estimate that was going on for ~1 hr. When I typed exit it said a stop signal was sent and I'm unsure if anything else was noted on the daemon. after 20 min I just Xed it. I did not try restarting because the official 0.9 will be released not soon but imminently I think that it will resume from where it was stuck once you start it again. You see, since it is using the database the info is saved to disk as it is being downloaded. So even the dreaded "Saving blockchain to disk" is gone in this version... This is what I got.......2015-Oct-03 07:57:54.896332 [node] Stop signal sent 2015-Oct-03 08:06:50.960716 Got control signal 2. Exiting without saving... I had set up the Beta in a new folder and I just checked now and that folder is gone. In my bitmonero folder the first thing listed is lmdb and the info above is from the text document in bitmonero. In my bitmonero folder is monero.win.x64.latest which is 0.8.8.4 which has it's own text document. My wallets etc are there. The only thing I see from 0.9 is the lmdb folder and I see no way of starting 0.9 I will now go back to patiently waiting for the official 0.9 Yours truly, The Drooling Masses©

I'm pissed I didn't have any BTC avail when the dump hit. still waiting on fucking coinbase slow train to hell. I haven't used them but I hear Circle is very fast once it's set up. Given the current volume we could be going down soon as long as there isn't any concrete news. What exactly do you mean by what's bold above? What news are you talking about? Such as the release of 0.9 I know I know it's coming soon We can speculate whether it will make a difference in the short term but without it we ain't going anywhere. I dont think it will make any significant difference. I compiled yesterday from github for linux, and I only got irritated as it started downloading blockchain again. Since I was not in a mood of downloading 6 GBs (?) of blockchain again, chose to stick with 0.8.8 version for now. There are several methods to convert the existing blockchain. I finally downloaded GingerAle's windows ~0.9 binary yesterday. I don't know when he created it and therefore how up to date it is vs what's now available. I started to sync from scratch which was very fast with my minimal computer. I had to leave midway and it seemed it would only take an hour. When I came back it was stuck at 270 blocks behind. When I tried to exit it said it had stopped but nothing else happened. So I closed the daemon with nothing saved. Wait, is this the speculation thread So I continue to wait for the 0.9 release. I remember last October deciding not to upgrade my memory because there was discussion that the database would be ready around the end that year. At least now we actually have a database. Anyway I just lowered my bids.

"With that, Gemini bitcoin exchange is now an established entity but this only marks the first among many steps before the company can start offering its services.
The bitcoin exchange plans on operating exclusively in the US, working with US banks and guaranteeing that the funds never leave the country."So it ain't happening "soon. WTF does the second line mean

Still going sideways I see. 2015 is definitely reminding me of 2012.
Actually, that could signify fairly decent possibilities of two bubbles in the 2016 - 2017 time-frame, no? Maybe bubble 1 would go 10 to 12x from the mid $200s price arena (that's $2,500 to $3,000), and maybe bubble 2 (after BTC crashes down to $1,500-ish would go 9 to 11x from that mid $1,500s price arena (that's $13,500 to $16,500)? Call me a bear, or a pessimist, because the above projections do NOT quite make it to Adam's $32k prediction. What are the odds of something like the above happening? 5% or greater? It's certainly NOT in the realm of the impossible. i don't think we'll see an exact repeat of the past. What i see happening is bitcoin becoming increasingly useful and the price rising based on that fact rather than speculation, and then exploding to 32,000 after leaching some of gold's speculative/safe haven value. so this time next year we'll see a solid rise to ~2,000$ and sustain that value, will take millions bought or sold to move price up or down, we'll see counrty A making a deal with country B using BTC, OIL for BTC or something, then Billions of grams of gold will start buying bitcoin KABOOM 32,000$ maybe 320,000$ I think the next rise or "bubble" will be like nothing we've seen before because this time it will be different, this time it we wont be speculating bitcoin is the future of money, we'll be pricing that fact in. we may see a bit of a dip on the second run up as bitcoin mining / full nodes become more institutionalized people will be crying out "bitcoin is being centralized by big corporation! this is the end bla bla bla " but infact this is the natural evolution of the tech, early adopters will not like the idea that bitcoin has grown so big that individual nodes / miners are ran by countries and large institutions, and so they will leave to join dogecoin or some shit that will never grow past the "home users form consensus" model. this will all happen so fast, in 2-3years time, there will be much confusion, its important to remember that bigger is better! and bitcoin isn't "centralized" simply because it requires a large amount of capital ( 3000$ computer + high end internet connection ) to participate in its consensus layer. the big question is how will have more power, China or US. Have you seen gold? It is shiny and beautiful! Have you seen btc? ________________

it was me Yeah good job. At least Andreas sees the fungibiility issues Bitcoin has and is willing to acknowledge it. He acknowledged it ,but he didn't really offer any type of solution-just that's it's bad and "complain to your government". Andreas Antonopoulos starts his response with saying that blacklisting is evil. As far as your quote, actually he said "you have to ask what the hell is wrong with my government not what the hell is wrong with btc?" This is after hand waving about btc fungibility improvements and then extolling the public ledger and the ability to do "archaeological blockchain analysis". As always, thank you dnaleor

The price is now down to 8 deposit bottles/XMR.
One 1-liter bottle buys you more than 1 XMR... In the US it varies by state but where I am deposit bottles, and cans, are 5 cents regardless of size and has been for 50 years. We beat inflation!!!! I found 1.5 XMR today

thank you for giving more details dEBRUYNE. yes i also think mostly everyone will upgrade, and those who can not will be given some time to adapt. i run 0.9 for a long time now allready. but isn't the amount of transactions with mixing 0 important? maybe i missunderstood something there if there are a lot of transactions with mixing 0, this is bad for all of us no? or ist it such a problem becasue of the stealth adresses? Stealth addresses are 100% not affected at all and certainly give a measure of privacy even if mixing is totally broken. Of course the privacy is far less than if mixing worked perfectly (otherwise why even bother with mixing!), but it does't fall to zero. I tend to have more of a glass-half-full view on this which is to say that if you look at the recent stats (on moneroblocks.eu), the share of mix 0 transactions last year was 80%. Last month it was 67%. The number will surely continue to decline when 0.9 is released and people make the transition to having an enforced minimum in six months. As far as the % that use mixins it seems a large part of the problem are the exchanges that don't/can't use it now. ShapeShift started to use mixin and had to stop due to problems. Will the 0.9 release deal with whatever issues they were having? Yes I'm back now and I see the price has recovered to 170. hmmmmmmmmm The price is now down to 8 deposit bottles/XMR.

I hope you guys are having fun today! I have not been able to partake. I was out of the house within a half an hour this morning and have been on the road for work the last 9 hours with no end in sight. all I can do is follow the forum and I'm posting while driving.
I am NOT on polo so it's a little more difficult for me and as always my timing is impeccable :-(

My transaction was not included in the last 2 blocks which were 912.39 KB and 976.54 KB big. The larger one was only 12 minutes long. I used the recommended fee size. Yeah the 1MB blocksize is just fine

This is nothing at all like the emissions debate.
As far as technical reasons, will increasing the blocktime and thereby decreasing the # of blocks reduce the size of the blockchain to any meaningful degree?

Completely off-topic: Anyone else being forced/repeatedly prompted to agree to a bunch of legal crap in order to do a simple google-search?
is this a joke >.>? Nope, using Bing atm. I know Google is milking us dry for information, but them demanding me to actively accept it is a bit too much. Passive acceptance and living in denial is more my style. I don't know much about it but have you tried https://search.disconnect.me/Is it better than duckduckgo? It is not a search engine but a service that prevents you from being tracked when using a search engine. duckduckgo is one of the search engines it works on. I really don't know how well it works as I have neither used it nor researched it much. Did it work for you Fatman?

There's no need to wait for official 0.9 binaries if you're developing something, you can go to Github and compile the latest yourself, its quite stable for me.
+1 I've been running moneroblocks.eu with the database version since this was still in tewinget's branch. And the new Master is running in two other PCs without a problem. yeah, honestly I'd be interested if anyone in the active circle of Monero is running release binaries. ROLL CALL! I am running compiled source, built ~3 days ago. The idiot raises his hand but you knew that already How did I become "Legendary"

I have started running a node to help support Aeon. It's memory usage causes no problems on my windows 8.1 and 4GB memory.
I updated to version 0.9.4.0 on 9/9 and after syncing it said I was [5384 blocks (-14 days) ahead] Now it says [11915 blocks (-33 days) ahead]
So every day I am one more day and 1 more days worth of blocks ahead. on 9/9 I was on block 605066
My daemon says I'm on block 611496 and ChainRadar says 611495 so I guess that's ok
I'm sure this is nothing but I thought I'd let you know.
