Isn't that horse dead yet?Tongue

They specifically stated that there were security issues with the old software going forward.  And no we don't have to speculate on what that means.

theres a new beta version: https://downloads.getmonero.org/monero.win.x64.v0-9-beta.zip so the courageous folks who use crypto on windows can get on the latest build.

Is that different than the 0.9 windows beta that has been out for a while?

Earlier today I saw it at 340 and said I hope it goes down a bit by the time I get home, I might buy some with the last of my fiat.  Now that I'm home  Shocked Shocked Tongue
1044  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 01, 2015, 10:58:24 PM
I was too impatient and bought at too high a price this morning Tongue

Seems we are above that now Smiley

You still buying?

I am hesitant to buy above 400 CAD...

I am wait, hope Tami is right, this is not the end for accumulation period.

I hope...

I bought 3 times above 300.  303, 311 and today @ 319 for small amounts.  Because each time I felt the price was going up short term and so far it has.  Long term I think we all know where it's going.  If tarmi is correct I will happily buy more.

@ r0ach,  For most of the past year I couldn't buy much as I have had a rough few years and had to dig myself out of unexpected debts.  I'm sure I have nowhere near what many here have or what I would like to have.  Hence why I bought today while I had a bit of fiat.

On a side note:

I think I'm gonna go sell out, what's a sig campaign thats not a scam?

Noooo.... don't turn to the dark side.  But if you must, can we at least see if Fluffy wants to start a MoneroDice campaign so new sig spam will be at least (somewhat) productive?

yes a MoneroDice signature campaign would be fine  Cool
1047  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 01, 2015, 02:25:44 PM
BMB where did you go Huh

Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?
1048  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 01, 2015, 02:07:58 PM
Ooh wow. It's starting to get entertaining around here. Cool On a side note, looks like our baby is lovin' $320 and don't want to go down.

Disclaimer:  I do not have a paid signature.
Disclaimer:  My decisions are in good part distilled from the posts ITT from many people.  I am clueless but have overall been lucky.

I also don't feel we will go down much from here and therefore bought a small amount at 320 which is the highest price I have ever bought btc for.  I can only buy when I have fiat and I need moar btc.

Is it true?

1051  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis never ends on: October 31, 2015, 01:21:41 PM
master, do you trade things other than bitcoin?  does your system of analysis (primarily elliott wave?) work for other assets?  how did you educate yourself on trading?

I am dedicated to bitcoin. Bitcoin changed my life. No other assets.
1052  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 30, 2015, 10:57:00 PM
I have used it.  They charge a 2% fee but you skip the fee for first buying btc.  You also get to use fiat directly which you can find in your couch or under your mattress.  There is usually not that much liquidity near market price and the price is usually ~1% high although I haven't checked them for over a month due to reasons.  Think of the liquidity more like Bittrex than Polo.

1053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 30, 2015, 10:37:52 PM
Is there a way to top up without going via BTC ?

CNY on BTER

OTC for some sort of fiat (or non-BTC crypto) payment

EDIT: Poloniex XMR pairs, including vs. USDT. (Thanks macsga, I forgot those.)

AltQuick

...

I believe you meant September 15, 2015 for the code freeze for version 0.9

Yes that is correct.

Little remark, it was either September 15, 2015 or October 15, 2015 if I recall correctly. However, since we passed both already your argument is still valid and furthermore I agree with it.

It's quite simple, mr manipulator and the bears will be able to determine the price (+control the market) until we have a new release.

fluffypony today commented on the Monero forum that the delay in the code freeze will not push back the hardfork date because most people will want to upgrade to the new release.

Yeah!! the 0.9 release is less than 6 months away Grin  Roll EyesGrin

Before was stated that the new release (0.9) would be released before one of that dates, hence ArticMine's argument.

I have no argument with his argument.  Just passing along some new info Smiley

Should a good person mine with a bad computer?  Bad = 35 H/s

If yes then, solo mine or pool?

If you're mining to help the network (and that's really the only reason with a bad computer) and you can, solo mine.

You may want to look into underclocking/undervolting to make the efficiency slightly less bad, unless you 100% don't care about electricity/heat.

To support the network we have recently started mining on our Monero payment processing droplet at digital ocean.

Code:
[2015-10-30 02:57:21] Stratum detected new block
[2015-10-30 02:57:21] thread 2: 177 hashes, 8.38 H/s
[2015-10-30 02:57:21] thread 0: 170 hashes, 8.03 H/s
[2015-10-30 02:57:21] thread 1: 174 hashes, 8.24 H/s
[2015-10-30 02:57:21] thread 3: 175 hashes, 8.25 H/s
[2015-10-30 02:57:39] thread 0: 121 hashes, 6.81 H/s
[2015-10-30 02:57:39] accepted: 178/178 (100.00%), 31.68 H/s at diff 16000 (yay!
!!)

mining with 4 threads?  I assume 4 is all of them and you would need 8MB L3 cache to use them all efficiently.  I bet you will get a better HR with less cores/threads.

In regards to solo mining with my bad comp, I just tried mining with simplewallet for the first time since upgrading to the windows 0.9 beta.  Getting  33.5 H/s with both cores or ~22 H/s with one.

It doesn't matter how hard the reality is now

It does.

Should I sell my XMR to prove to you that I don't like the concentration that is happening?

(I also don't like that nobody even recognizes this is the problem. As with price, today it is 0.3734 EUR/XMR, twelve days ago it was 0.3735. That one is holding steady.)

The problem is that there has not been an official tagged release for the XMR software in well over 10 months now and the last official binaries from December of last year are for most people close to unusable with their 8 GB + of RAM requirements. This creates the false impression that there has not been any development of XMR. It also encourages concentration since those of us willing to clone github and compile from source (as I had to do two days ago when I upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu 14.10) actually see the benefits of what has been very extensive development over the last 10 months, while the typical Windows / iOS user will not. The reality is that someone who is not both already involved with Monero and also to be blunt "a nerd running GNU/Linux" is unlikely to compile from source and consequently will either sell or not buy. The recent bear market starting in mid September coincides with the failed target date of September 15, 2014 for the code freeze for version 0.9, and further supports my theory.

I believe you meant September 15, 2015 for the code freeze for version 0.9
1058  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Mining on: October 30, 2015, 11:32:14 AM
I'm not denying that its probably difficult to manage a botnet. I would just argue that the "resources" used to mine skew some of the assumptions made that underlie the purpose of POW.

Probably not skewing the assumptions too much considering that satoshi wrote about botnets and said they make the network more secure.

He may have been more interested in security functions than price action though.

Even though Satosh did not think botnet is bad for bitcoin, I think botnet is bad for Monero. One reason for the low and dropping price of Monero is that the existence of botnet on Monero network. Botnet is too large proportion of Monero hashing power. If they want to evil things to Monero, then Monero is in trouble.

Botnet or botnets?  It seems to me that the motivation of botnets is the same as virtually any miner which is greed.  I say virtually because some miners mine in order to obtain coins without going through an exchange and some mine to support the network.  Greed is ofc the prime motivating factor for any coin including Satoshi's.

Is monero used anywhere to transact for real world goods, has it made it onto the dark web yet?

There is not much you can now buy directly.  You can buy anything that you can buy with btc using XMR.TO although there are limits to the size of the transaction.  It does however give you the anonymity that is provided by using Monero.

It is not on the dark web yet.

From my understanding one reason that it is not used much is that the client is difficult to use or without needed features for such.  Sorry I can't give you details but there is a major release due out very soon that will address many of these issues.  Remember Monero is not a bitcoin clone but is an entirely different code base.  Much work is being done on it.

I'm not sure how much you already know and although lacking in much detail hope my answer helps.

Does anyone else feel that we all just went back to 2013 and the feeling that the possibilities are endless with this price increase?  It's going to be insane to watch what happens at the $1,200 resistance point.

Yes!  I'm supposed to be up in 4 hrs, just like 2013 Grin

The only difference is that I'm not completely clueless, just somewhat Tongue
