Yes I see that now.  The time isn't set right for me here on BCT Shocked Smiley
1082  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 25, 2015, 12:04:09 PM
It would be nice if we could bottom ~0.0013, that's exactly on the following support line. In addition, we also have some support at 0.00131.

^^Posted about 45 min before another 10k dump down to 134.  There I got enough to complete the extension on my Monero house.  However I still need furnishings.

Just going to throw out that if Monero makes it to 2020 it's going to be trading at much higher prices. Probably 200-1000 usd per coin.

If I make it to 2020 I'll be pleasantly surprised Cheesy

You don't think you will be alive in 5 years?

I have no expectations one way or the other.   Thank you for your concern.

My interest here in the speculation thread has more to do with Monero's long term prospects.

I am more impressed as time goes on by both Monero's devs and community after first being here for the basic idea of Monero.

Go time

Yes 280!
1086  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 24, 2015, 12:20:38 AM
Since we hit 275 now, you say we go revisit ~250 and then go to 290 and then down (down to where) ?

It already exceeded my upside by a small amount, but my timing model says it is likely to turn down starting today.  Thus today would be the correct time to rotate from BTC to XMR.  If it continues to rise past the expected turning point, 292, 300 are resistance levels, and a conservative estimation of the next top, if it drops as timing models indicate.  The support levels are 266, 250, 244, 220.  My current expectation is that the top is in, for the next few weeks, and I do not expect a pullback below 240.  Cycle times have been running about 3 to 4 months, top to top, and that is my best estimate of the next cycle time.  My alternative scenario is for 3 weeks of continued climb, starting late next week from a slightly lower level, probably touching 300 before a downtrend begins.  My own strategy is to rotate 60% of btc into XMR today, and hold out 40% to rotate near XBTUSD 300, in case the second scenario is more accurate.  In either case, when timing models indicate a BTC bottom is in, I will then rotate the position (a small trading fraction of my overall holding position) from BTC into XMR.

I don't understand. You sell BTC to buy XMR when BTC is topping, and sell BTC to buy XMR when BTC is bottoming, what's the logic behind that?

I believe it is based on the pattern that when btc goes down Monero is priced higher in btc and when btc goes up Monero is priced lower in btc.

Is this pattern correct?  Several people say they have observed it.  If it exists, will it continue?  Don't try this at home Grin  It seems most people hold a large % of their coins and trade a small %.

Just going to throw out that if Monero makes it to 2020 it's going to be trading at much higher prices. Probably 200-1000 usd per coin.

If I make it to 2020 I'll be pleasantly surprised Cheesy

If block time is modified to 2 minutes then it should last longer. Also, you can always add an external storage.

Block time has been discussed many time previously. As Monero is not being used, just in distribution stage, even 10 min block time is acceptable. However, the community decides 1 min block time is fine.

Block time will most likely be changed to 2 minutes *soon*.
After the 0.9 release which will be released **very soon**.

I was too early with selling the news a few days ago.
Now the EU VAT news is out, I'm happy to know we're going down again.

What's the opposite of a dead cat bounce called? How do you know this isn't a small retrace before the price continues to rise higher? I didn't notice any posts here discussing rumors about the VAT decision. I couldn't find any threads about it until the news got out, and I didn't know anything about it until then. I doubt many others were buying the rumor if there were no rumors flying around here.

We're you living under a rock since July 16th?

No, no rumours at all... I suggest you load up on expensive coins.
I'll wait and buy some $240 coins in the next two months...

I still can't find any old threads about it here, and I don't remember any discussions about it before the news was announced. Generally to buy the rumor means a community has to be talking about something and I don't remember any mention of the tax until today. This thread is great for finding out about the latest rumor, but I've not heard VAT mentioned for a long time.

Ah come on. As if all bitcoin buyers/investors come here to spread and buy the rumor.
This website is usually a pile of shit. Most bitcoin investors I know do not even come here or even know it's existence.

$240 in the next couple of months?  Great, that will coincide with more fiat.  Oh wait, does that mean I should sell now Huh

Pile of shit?  I guess I need to get out more often Tongue

Maybe we should bet on when 0.9 will be released Grin Grin

Just yesterday on reddit this question was asked:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/3pladk/is_there_any_expected_time_when_09_is_released/

Details of the process were given but ofc no time was so I think we can bet.

The only thing that seemed definitive is that gagging a fluffy pony = animal abuse.

As far as speculation, btc is rising seemingly due to http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-is-exempt-from-vat-says-european-court-of-justice/

Monero is holding it's recent lows of the last 3 days in the 140s where I bought another brick for my Monero house.  The extension is virtually complete.
1090  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 22, 2015, 10:20:58 AM
How is MoneroDice doing? I have not played there but am interested in hearing the usage stats if they can be shared

http://monerodice.pd.to/charts.php

Oh wow... -20,000+ XMR at one point.  That would be enough to have me sweating as an administrator for the site.  Though as long as it gets people using XMR and not holding it as an investment tool on polo then it's all good.

So far the players appear to be more lucky than the investors.

Traffic has been light because as I understand it they are not promoting MoneroDice until 0.9 is released which will make Monero usable for the majority of people.

The maximum bet is 10% of the site bankroll so variance to a large degree depends on the luck of the big bettors.  Hopefully they are not all as lucky as othe Smiley

Investment seems to be a somewhat long term commitment now.  The more traffic there is the less variance there will be for the site.  I don't think there are any small casinos left in Las Vegas but when there were the casino could have a losing day!

Maybe we should bet on when 0.9 will be released Grin Grin

just saw 800 coins bought on bitfinex in 4 orders that werent shown in the orderbook. buys were for solid amounts, 100, 200, 200, 290... all filled at one exact price, no slippage at all...

very strange...

Yeah, I saw that too. Business transactions aren't being allowed to move the price at all. Small transactions from private individuals aren't enough to go "to the moon" as they say. When Karpeles moved the price he did it by manipulating 10's of thousands of btc at once. When are individuals ever going to do that?

For better or worse, they need to allow the currently off book transactions to move the price.

YOu are full of conspiracies today, including repeating, nearly at nauseum your Gox Bot myth.

Gox bot myth?  BTW you spelled bot as Bot.

Every time I open bitwisdom I am reminded what the price was 18 months ago when it was the first thing I favorited on my new comp.  $445.75

I came from............

Internet poker players - No wallet and no Bitcoins.  Poker experience.

2 1/2 years ago.  The reason was the difficulty cashing out from the US.

Thank you SWC

we will have to revisit 245-255 before further rise. it's not bubble time yet.

where do you get 245 from ?
it may drop to 255-265 then rises to ath... everything is possible

I'm glad that is cleared up!

From the "FreeBazaar - OpenBazaar with Monero" thread.

So with the alledged OpenBazaar release coming up, it would be a good time to provide us with your curren thought regarding the project. If you are not going forward with it, I suggest you just donate the remaining funds to the dev fund or ask your donators what they would want you to do with it.

Yes, they will be ready soon, and during current work OB-devs changed a lot. What breaks my code permanently.
Therefore I'll release a new fork with actually synchronized status in some days after official release.

DEVS: I made a User Guide (html and images) modeled from the source code of a getmonero.org page. To whom should I send the tar.gz? All I have is Ubuntu so it's just for Linux. Hopefully some Windows and OSX folks will jump in for those OSs. You can PM me with the info or reply here.

Nice! So I've asked my friend at work who is majoring in computer science to help me out with setting up Linux and how to use it, since I just seem to be too computer illiterate to set it up on my own.  But once I do figure it out, I think it would help everyone out that's like me to write a guide on how to set up Linux and what it can be applied to for xmr purposes. So like a benefits vs. cons kinda thing, while also making it written by a "newb" for a "newb.  I think I'll write it all up on google docs and then when finished, anyone can come in to write in pieces where there might be parts I might be missing out on.

What you guys think?

Sounds great! Here is some starting material for your guides

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVppdkOThCs

You get to choose the installation size for ubuntu and he recommends 15GB.  Will this be large enough for the Monero blockchain as well as other blockchains you may have stored as well?  Can you change the size of the installation later?
