Does anyone know what it would take for a newbie to get into the Avalon group buy?  It seems like after one post I can PM the guy in charge.

Relatively new to this whole bitcoin world, but enjoy playing with new technology.
PS: I'm the escrow in charge for that. We're in the last legs of the group buy, so do it fast if you want a part of it.  Wink
Someone is buying up the rest once he gets the coins today.

Hey John, thanks for posting here (I've been trying to post in your thread.)

I would like to get 13 of the chips, which should come out to right around 1.1 (I have just a hair more than that from mining)

Do I just send the BTC to you and I get added to the list, or do I need to do anything else?

13 chips would cost 1.07435 according to the calculator, but please remember that there's still a shipping fee from the operator to you unpaid. (as this will depend on how huge the chips are, your location and shipping preference) If that's okay with you, send the amount to the escrow address listed and PM me the txID so I can add you in the list.
2204  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as Escrow! Send coins to confirm! on: April 26, 2013, 05:23:44 PM
Ragin....  Can you tell us if there will be any issue in terms of taxes / customs on your end to receive the chips?

I can tell you that I have been selling on eBay and shipping computer and electronic parts worldwide without a problem. I don't think an item this small will cause any issue.

I guess he's asking about you receiving the entire 10k chips - which I think would be in a quite huge box.

How big are the individual chips? if they're on tape, you'd be amazed how not "huge" of a box 10,000 ICs will fit in. Cheesy
I've never received such a box yet.  Tongue
I guess each would be around 1-2 cm each side judging from the pics, but I could be wrong.
2205  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as Escrow! Send coins to confirm! on: April 26, 2013, 05:22:55 PM
sorry for so many transactions, but I had to send 0.08314528  more in order to get an even number of chips.
Added, but you still didn't get an even number of chips yet. Use the calc to be sure - remember that you only pay the 0.035 once.
So I overpayed?  If that's the case, put me down for 592 and keep the rest.
Yep, you did. Thanks!

Oh, and the spreadsheet for this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiYcEqkgyjc_dGU0VzhHRGpOOUxudWkxdWpDN3RmbFE#gid=0
We're at 61 persons with 1 guy (the number 2) not paying yet. Any funds that come in before his will cause his part to diminish though.

i agree with you.  John it looks like I'm at 26.44 chips,  please take the overage as a tip to make it 26.00.

Cripes that is stripper tips right there... what did you shake to get that John "THE DONG"?

Part of me feels 13 BTC is a fair enough price just to get him to shut up for a while. But then, we really should not negotiate with terrorists, so to speak, so he should send it back, keep a few mBTC, consider himself lucky and go get a job.  Grin
Tough luck on that. Anyway, I don't think that account will come back online anymore - he's probably one of the trolls we constantly ban here. We'll see much more trolls like him going around to ask people prove their amount of bitcoins now.

Theymos,

I have carefully considered your request for offers and must respectfully decline to participate.

While I understand the need of the forum and community at large for a collection of individuals to act as a holding  company for the forum, I am not prepared to accept that level of risk to my personal finances.

I realize I probably was not on your short list of candidates in any case.

I would like to suggest you consider having some portion of the forum holdings set up as a BTC lending group.  How exactly this would be done is worth discussion but I have confidence the forum "elders" can figure it out.  Public disclosure of all loans (amount, forum ID,  duration,  terms) would deter default.  Collateral could be simply holding proof of identify of the borrower. In case of full default publishing all identification details and debt owed should be enough to remove the individual from the community.

In the longer term, the public listing of loans with satisfactory repayments fills a community need for establishing a reputation in an ever growing community.
Uh, this is over since February/March AFAIK. Also, the highlighted part above will not work in any case.
