1661  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie restriction should be revisited on: May 10, 2013, 02:32:31 PM
It's a good filter for people who want to instantly get on the forums and start posting.  Have you spent any time looking in the newbie section?  If they were allowed to post anywhere right off the start there would be so much clutter.

The big part of the restriction is the 4 hours online time, that's what helps the most IMO.

So please just retain the 4 hours requirement, not the post requirement. You may not read Chinese but I can tell you the sub-forum is really awful, full of trolling and begging newbies. They just stop once 10 posts are made.
Yeah, I concur this.  Undecided I'm deleting and sometimes banning those posts though, especially if they're reported to me.
1662  Other / Meta / Re: [NOT CONFIRMED] Bitcointalk users info leaked? on: May 10, 2013, 02:31:35 PM
Nah, the only active admin here is theymos, and I don't think he will leak the info here.
1663  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Accusation- FocusMedia on: May 10, 2013, 02:29:22 PM
Related question:  Are scammer tags still being used?  When was the last one issued?
Thanks.
They are, since a few days ago. Only the admin can issue scammer tags here (otherwise I would've gave him one instead of banning), and he's currently MIA.  Undecided
1664  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Accusation- FocusMedia on: May 10, 2013, 02:15:10 PM
I banned him.  Undecided

THEYMOS!!!!
Not sure i understand -- is FocusMedia banned?  He seems to be logged in as i type Huh

He can log in, but cannot post/PM or anything. The scammer's probably checking to see if that account is active or not, and moving to his next account again.  Undecided
1665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Be safe: READ THIS BEFORE TRADING/BUYING/USING YOUR MONEY on: May 10, 2013, 02:02:40 PM
I disagree with a few of the points.

0. Newbies, NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH OTHER NEWBIES, EVER. There are plenty of veteran members to do business with and ALWAYS use escrow. If you're a newbie and you're doing business with another newbie, there's a 100% chance that you will get scammed (or you're a scammer yourself). I can not stress this enough.. just work with people who have been here at least a year.

100%? NEVER? I trade with newbies all the time. This is a ridiculous stereotype of members here. This is just retarded.

1. New account (usually created within the last 3 months, plus or minus)

No, this correlated with my response to 0.

3. Use of a seemingly realistic first/last name as their forum account name

Look at my name. My username is my First name. Have I ever scammed anyone? No. I use a combination of my First and Last name on some forums. Ridiculous.

4. Signs posts with full name

--Simran Singh

8. Any user blatantly claiming to be female

Oh, yeah, cause females don't exist on the internet. Sexist? Probably not, but this is not true.

Please read carefully what he said.

Seriously, this is the truth. I'm sick and tired of seeing yet another 'zomg Imma got hacked my pants off' thread/PM. Angry
1666  Economy / Services / Re: John (John K.)'s escrow service (previously known as johnthedong) on: May 10, 2013, 01:59:27 PM
Damn, I'm running out of cold wallet addresses.  Shocked
Gonna hop to the safe tomorrow again, so if I delay sending out the escrow contracts don't worry.

The escrow address for flyonwall's Condo project is:

14LLaL23H7mkXBdkwvGghj51VmpdgNKwSd

Please state and agree to the conditions (if item is received damaged, item lost with tracking, customs fee etc) beforehand.

If possible, GPG sign your agreement to prevent any discrepancies later on and please ship with tracking to prevent problems during delivery. GPG signing is not a requirement, and any verbal exchange in the form of private messages or posts on bitcointalk.org, or email is effective as a statement of condition.

The fine print:
This Contract is solely generated for the purpose of facilitating the transaction between the seller and the buyer, which refers to the pseudonyms used on bitcointalk.org.
The escrow holder, John, assumes and gives no liability or guarantees on the satisfaction of all parties involved, although he agrees to mediate and facilitate the deal to the fullest extent he is capable of.  On the event that any problems arises, he will release the escrow to whichever party that presents him with the most convincing proof and/or after an open discussion with others or theymos.
The verbal acceptance by both parties (or the failure to reject) and the sending of Bitcoins to the escrow address above constitutes the acceptance of the terms and conditions stated, and the activation of this Contract.

Please understand that I am assuming the risk of holding the escrowed Bitcoins, and I am using my own time to facilitate this transaction.
I am imposing a fixed fee of 1.5% for this transaction, pre-paid or otherwise to 1NB1KFnFqnP3WSDZQrWV3pfmph5fWRyadz .

Thank you.

For anyone watching this, the scammer sent the fake contract to OP directly like in other scams. Thank god OP was intelligent enough to drop me a PM...
1670  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Be safe: READ THIS BEFORE TRADING/BUYING/USING YOUR MONEY on: May 10, 2013, 03:31:33 AM
Point 0 is absolutely correct almost 50% of the time.  You'll agree so if you were getting the mountainous scam report PM's like I get daily...
1671  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammed by Joshster on: May 10, 2013, 03:23:40 AM
I confirm this is a real escrow and his coins are safe. God, it's been such a busy week for me.(and the scammers)
1672  Economy / Services / Re: John (John K.)'s escrow service (previously known as johnthedong) on: May 10, 2013, 02:53:54 AM
There is a massive influx of scammers using my escrow contract to fake me sending the escrow out.  Angry
ALWAYS STAY ON ALERT AND VERIFY THE ESCROW COMES FROM ME DIRECTLY.

1676  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 09, 2013, 03:56:13 PM
The ASIC chips used in Avalon and AM is different - actually I remember correctly AM is using the older 110nm chips while Avalon uses the slightly newer chip at 70+-nm.

And yes, I can read Chinese for god's sake.  Tongue

90 iirc

I fail, sorry.  Tongue

You both fail Smiley

Avalon = 110nm
AM = 130nm

Well, wtf, I said 110, 130 on IRC, and every time I do everyone says Im wrong its 90 and 110. INTERNET, MAKE UP YOUR MIND.
Did some research and concluded that mrb's numbers are correct there. I only knew that AM was using older tech here.  Smiley
1677  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: As a store owner who accepts bitcoins, anyone who wants can track my income on: May 09, 2013, 03:45:37 PM
You're never supposed to use a single address for all transactions.  Undecided
1678  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 09, 2013, 03:26:40 PM
Thanks for the detailed write up on how to sign a message - I was getting the question so many times via PM. I've added the quote to the OP.

I am just waiting to figure out how to sign a message.  It would be easier for me to just put my spreadsheet order number at the end of my transaction.  e.g. BTC 2.101300XX

I was also hoping John would show up and confirm the transactions are coming in like he wants.

Yep, I've been monitoring the thread regularly and can confirm that we're at currently.  Wink I'll add that ticker to the OP too.

Nah, no thanks. I suspect I've seen you here lately a lot.  Undecided

[Moderator note: There is an influx of scams lately on the 'mining shares' front. ALWAYS STAY ON ALERT - Example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=199071.0]

Seriously, I will be ignoring your PM's if anything goes wrong on this tx.
