2221  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [Help]Small mining farm airflow problem on: August 05, 2021, 09:29:54 PM
One important piece of information which you need to consider would be the difference in pressure between the two rooms, the split room design is good but it's hard to work with when it comes to air pressure, I don't know the exact setup of your farm but if I understood you correctly I believe you might have to increase the exhaust and reduce the intake.

One way to confirm this would be making a small hole in the outside wall of the hot room, and then place a piece of paper on it (from the inside), if the hole sucks the paper then you are good, if the paper is pushed to the inside (which is what I believe to be the case) then you need to balance the pressure.
2222  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Is my S17+ PSU toast? on: August 05, 2021, 09:08:43 PM
no voltage between the two big buss bars. Shouldn't I be getting 14-21V at those bars?

Not really, if there is no load-demand the PSU will only be outputting 12V to supply the control board which powers the fans, but that doesn't mean your PSU is good, it's likely dead if all 3 hash boards stopped showing, maybe post some screenshots and the kernel log as they usually give enough information to diagnose the miner's issues.
2223  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: My t17 I just bought only hashs on 2 boards. on: August 05, 2021, 01:48:58 AM
Hey guys I just bought a t17 from china and they shipped it over and first thing when I get it and plug it in it only hashs on 2 boards. It can detect the other board I think based off the kernel log, but asic chain 2 0. Ill post the log. Any body found a solution to this or has a idea of what to do next.

The majority of topics in the mining support board are related to dead hashbaords on the 17 series gears, you just got yourself a shit gear that has a very high failure rate, you are lucky to have found 2 working hash boards, which won't be running well for too long as far the statistics go, you should have done a bit of research before buying it, but well, at least you didn't sell the house for that.

As for this error

Code:
2021-08-04 04:20:42 driver-btm-api.c:1042:check_asic_number_with_power_on: Chain[2]: find 0 asic, times 0

It usually means what it says, the control board can see the hash board but sees no Asics on it, this in most cases is the result of one bad chip, either the chip is toasted or the solder paste is bad, while this seems like a small problem, fixing it, is far from simple, you can read the tens of topics regarding this issue if you are interested in fixing it, although, I believe your best guess would be to ask the seller for some sort of a refund, unplug that bad hash board and mine with the remaining two.

Also, some of us had some luck running custom firmware like Vnish, I personally managed to revive some dead hash boards, but that success rate isn't that high so please, no high hopes.
2224  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New mining farm (100 miners to start) on: August 05, 2021, 01:09:21 AM
Basically 3 switches straight to the router ... that gives me 3x16 miners (48)
On the 4th port another switch and connect (up to 16) switches there? Onto those switches the rest of the miners?

You can connect one switch to another using a LAN cable, you lose a few ports when doing so and the network gets a little messy so try to stick to using large switches, if you can't or/and if they are too expensive, that trick works just fine, also you don't need any sort of VPN and you shouldn't be doing that if you don't have to, get yourself a cheap laptop/pc and use remote desktop/ TeamViewer/ Anydesk to access your miners.
2225  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [Help]Small mining farm airflow problem on: August 05, 2021, 12:46:29 AM
I tried too many things, tried increasing my exhaust fans to a total of 13,000 cfm but no help. The other fans keeps slowing down their rpm. Tried putting the same fans to suck more air from the evaporative cooler but still some of the fans loose their speed because some of the suction is coming from the inside of the room.

The miners are sucking out more air than you supply in ( for the cold side ), when that happens the cold room will need to replace that gap in "air supply", and thus it pulls air from the hot side of the room if you were to completely block the wholes in the MDF sheets the air will be forced through the miner's fans even if they were running at 100% speed, if it can't, the whole room will collapse.

You HAVE to add more air to the intake side, if you can't do that on the walls, simply use the roof, if you can't, then you have to reduce the number of miners, there is really no workaround to by-pass physics.
2226  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: if mining stops , can we sell or use the asic in anything else on: August 04, 2021, 11:57:44 AM
The T9's MSRP was around $1300 so that means the scrap value is at the worst case more than 85 times less than the miner. Unless you're referring to just the chassis, and there is some other practical use for the onboard parts, I don't think people will bother selling it for scrap.

MSRP does not mean anything as far as this subject is concerned, once the miner is no longer proifible/fixable it is only good as scrap, i have seen thousends of miners scrapped, I had a whole topic+video showing that.
2227  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Antminer S19 Vertical or Horizontal? on: August 02, 2021, 11:26:03 PM

Well, based on this image the miner is placed vertically,  not horizontally, which is how most people set up, however, this does not take away from the fact that it could be placed horizontally, i honestly think what that person told you makes no sense.
2228  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Antminer S19 Vertical or Horizontal? on: August 01, 2021, 11:49:24 PM
By and large, the most important thing is do not put it sideways otherwise it may resulted into internal strains.  The case deformation by even a fraction of a millimeter can lead to the localized temperature increase and cause some chips on board to fail.  And yeah, Antminer S19 is designed to be run horizontally rather the vertically,  horizontally but not on the sides.

Where does it say it has too be placed horizontally ? And how does "horizontally but not on the sides" mean? also the point regarding temps is not clear, the amount of heat generated by the miner as well as the amount of air the fans can move is the same regardless how you position the miner, now whether one side runs hotter than the rest because of being at the top doesn't change a thing because there will always be chips near the top because the hash boards barely fit.
2229  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: mining vs selling to the grid on: July 30, 2021, 11:08:27 PM
they knows about Bitcoin

Alas, I was supposed to be in a similar deal with a guy who owns 2*1 MW transformers and a huge hangar, with a failed previous business, but he doesn't know about bitcoin and does not seem to think it's a serious thing, so he wanted a "fiat guarantee" of some kind which was a risk that both my partner and I couldn't take, so we ended up getting a 300kw farm( 85% less capacity) so we all lost a great opportunity because he was an old man who only believes in Cash, so this point about phill's partner knowing about BTC is pretty major.
2230  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: World Hashrate map / Miners / Bitcoin on: July 30, 2021, 10:32:57 PM
There is really no way to know. Mining pools do not publish where people are mining from so all you can see are the pools.

Even if the pools did say where the work was coming from it would be a guess at best. They only know the IP that the work came from between VPNs & proxies it would be a general guess at best.

I think we can safely assume that the vast majority of miners don't mine behind VPNs, and the map provided in the OP goes in line with the study from Cambridge, and I believe they use the same data since the numbers look pretty similar, you can read more about the "data aggregation and analysis" they used here, but long story short, they get these data from (BTC.com, Poolin, ViaBTC, and Foundry) and separate it by IP addresses, the last update was April 2021 when those pools made about 35% of the total network hasharate, while you can't take this info to the bank, I believe it's accurate to a fine degree.

Of course, with the recent shutdown in China, these figures must have changed a lot, but at least at the time of posting them, they were fairly accurate.

2231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HELP ME, THEY STEAL MY L3 antminer! on: July 30, 2021, 10:18:47 PM
L3 is an altcoin miner, there is a separate section for that, anyway, you need to use an Sdcard and flash the miner, go to this link > https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20image and look for L3 recovery files, put them on Sdcard, and recover the miner, if you don't know how just search google the process is rather simple.

You should also fix the underlying issue, how did the virus get into your miner? if you bought miner used then it came infected, if this is a recent event then your network could be compromised, you need to isolate the miner, change the root password, disable SSH if it's enabled, change your router's password, PC's password, only you can tell what things need to be done to stop this from happening again.
2232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to earn bitcoin using blogger on: July 29, 2021, 06:12:22 PM

Do you enjoy being mean to newbies around here? like why can't you just help them and be nice?

You can't mine on that site but you can earn Bitcoin with your site.

Exactly my thoughts, if he has enough traffic he can advertise bitcoin related content, he can probably also post CEX referral links like most other bloggers and YouTubers do (not sure if that's ethical/legal) I think even hardware wallets have some referral links, in other words, traffic = money = BTC, you just need to figure out how to get to the endpoint.

2233  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best BTC MINING POOL - which one is preferred ? on: July 28, 2021, 11:37:48 PM
I have tested all pools mentioned above for a fair bit of time with hashrate ranging between 1ph to 4ph, my favorite is Viabtc, it has the highest fees but it's the most reliable, and has Smart-Mining function which allows you to make some extra profit when some other Sha256 shitcoins are pumping and then automatically convert to BTC, the mobile app is smooth, and most importantly I seem to have a lot less latency to their nearest server than I do with the other pools, but that will be different from one person to another.

2234  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help Found login details from Apr 11, 2013, BTC Guild germany pool on: July 28, 2021, 10:27:38 PM
Looks like this pool shut down in 2015
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BTC_Guild

Guess im out of luck?  Sad

You probably are, they gave enough time for people to withdraw their coins, I believe the owner of that pool has an active account on Reddit > https://www.reddit.com/user/TerreCiel/ , he has not mentioned anything about Guild for years, and he seems to be interested in some altcoins now, but try to reach out to him, I would keep my hopes low enough to avoid disappointments.

mikeywith has done a lot of work with grace you can pm him to help find out if this Bella is good.

Yes bella works with grace, while I have not spoken with bella before and have only made deals with grace, I did ask her and she confirmed that that bella is legit, bella's telegram is @bellachan1996.
2236  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Antminer S19 Vertical or Horizontal? on: July 28, 2021, 09:38:17 PM
Thanks, mikeywith... In my mind, that sounds like 1 vote for horizontal.  I have 5 failed chips... it's just making me think.

I honestly doubt the effect of the miner's orientation on chips. (I of course know that gravity exists) and that at least in theory with chips facing up it's less likely for them to fall, but that is based on the assumption that the weight of the chip+heatsink is what causes them to fall, and I tend to believe that isn't the case and that it's all due to the low-quality solder bitmain uses on those models.

In other words, if the solder is bad and you get like solder balls underneath the chip or the solder between the heatsink and chip goes bad, the miner will stop mining, it does not matter if the chip falls down or not, and most large mining farms I saw go with the vertical orientation as it's a lot easier to manage.

2237  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Antminer S19 Vertical or Horizontal? on: July 28, 2021, 02:47:13 AM
It makes no difference for the previous models, which means, it's probably the same for the 19 series, with that in mind, some folks mentioned they had less failure rate when they placed their miners horizontally with the chips facing up, but the S19 doesn't seem to have a lousy thermal/solder paste and thus you should look for the origination that works best with your setup.

2238  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Whats the best mining equipment on the market today? on: July 27, 2021, 03:28:18 PM
Used S17+ is the best investment for me, good pricing, high hashrate and good cost efficiency..

Out of tens of models that the mining industry has ever known, the S17+ is in the top 3 worst mining gears ever, it has one of the highest failure rates among its generation model which is the 17 series, and the 17 series are by far the WORST performing mining gears, there is a good reason as to why they sell them a lot cheaper than other models which are even less effienct.
2239  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Question for those with technical knowledge of Bitcoin software on: July 27, 2021, 10:25:40 AM
So what is the bottle neck with Bitcoin transaction verification that make it difficult to scale up to the a good proportion of the global population?

There are two main bottlenecks, one being the block size and two is the average block time, if the block size was unlimited it could handle all the transactions in the world, but large blocks have some serious disadvantages too (it's a long-debated subject which you can read about if you want), the second issue is the 10 mins block time, so even if the transaction fee was close to zero because of the block size, it still wouldn't make sense to pay with bitcoin for your morning coffee, so BTC as is and without any second layer solutions simply can't do.

Think of bitcoin as a final settlement system, when you pay with Paypal or credit card, the balance of the receiver will change instantly and so is yours, but what happens between your bank and his bank or what happens between the central bank of your country and the central back of another country takes days if not weeks to finally settle, bitcoin provides that in a few minutes (if enough fees are paid)

Thank you again!

You are most welcome, thank you for following up, gave you 2 merit for that since most folks don't report back, now since your issue has been solved you might want to lock the topic.
