1381  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: "Yelp" for Bitcoin miner hosting businesses on: October 10, 2022, 11:53:27 PM
Unless the OP is directly connected to all these websites, a scam motive would be strange because there are no affiliate links.

Not really, OP, or anyone for that matter can just list 5 fake host services that he "owns", and cover them with another 5 legit companies, this way, every person who decides to buy into one of the services has 50% chance of being scammed, and judging by all the weird names and Info listed, it seems worse than just 50/50, more like 90/10.

Also, given the fact that most people are lazy, even the contact form for those legit companies could very well be redirected to an email address owned by the same person which makes things even worse.

I don't have solid proof that OP is trying to scam anyone, nor have I accused him of being a scammer, but that doesn't change the fact that I am convinced that this website is a scam at best, also "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence".
1382  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: is this store safe? on: October 10, 2022, 10:55:04 PM
ok but my bad im sorry for that but i also requested some other trusted vendors thats why the post

If all you care about is $/th then you should not be looking at the official websites, those stuff listed there are always the latest generations, the best $/th are those 5 old years miners, like the S9s and the Avalon 841 and their brothers.

If you know which model you actually want, I can help you, also where do you want them to be shipped?
1383  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17 PRO- doesn`t start mining! on: October 10, 2022, 09:36:01 PM
I downloaded the stock firmware for sd card from bitmains website and copy it to the sd card, put the sd card in the miner and started it up. But it doesn`t change it back to stock firmware. Yes, the sd card I format to fat32.

Did you follow every step mentioned on Bitmain's website? I also recall Braiins has a tool that you run in CMD to remove their firmware without having to use a Sdcard.

But anyway, it seems like you are posting the wrong logs, while it does say Kernel log, it looks more like system logs, the terms kernel/system/miner logs are used in different ways on different firmware versions, I think the one you need to copy is called "Miner Logs".

Edit: I was about to post the above then saw that you just posted a new log, which is the correct one, so what do we have ?

Code:
Mon Oct 10 20:37:09 2022 daemon.err bosminer[1603]: Oct 10 20:37:09.813 ERROR bosminer_backend::hashchain: CHAIN/3: Init failed: SHORT CIRCUIT - measured voltage 0.98 V

Mon Oct 10 20:37:10 2022 daemon.err bosminer[1603]: Oct 10 20:37:10.012  INFO bosminer_am2_s17::hashchain: CHAIN/1: Discovered 0 chips (expected 44 chips)

Mon Oct 10 20:37:10 2022 daemon.err bosminer[1603]: Oct 10 20:37:10.414  INFO bosminer_am2_s17::hashchain: CHAIN/2: Discovered 0 chips (expected 44 chips)

At this point, I would stop attempting the firmware change as I don't think the results will be different, it seems like you have a bad PSU at this point, you also mentioned about a "new place" so I suspect some damage happened to the PSU or the connectors, I would double check every screw on the PSU's busbar as well as all connectors.
1384  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: October 10, 2022, 08:45:26 PM
jumps was 13.55%

That hurts!

This epoch doesn't seem to be slowing down either, 70 blocks in and things look pretty terrible

We should start to get a clear view of the situation in 2-3 days, another 10-13% jump would be so brutal, someone with S19 pro and 10 cents per KwH is hardly making 1$ a day now! can you imagine?

Maybe it's good you didn't buy more of that S19 pro, I have been wanting to stack gears but these jumps make me postpone, hopping for gear prices to drop even further, I know I won't get anywhere trying to time the exact bottom, but I am always tempted.
1385  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Purchase of ASICs in the Current Market on: October 10, 2022, 09:55:22 AM
I keep hearing that ASIC prices have dropped as a result of the current bear market. Is now the time to invest in a miner? I don't have cheap electricity or any provisions to accommodate miners, so I'll look into hosted mining solutions.

There is a risk of NOT actually owning your mining hardware, regardless of how well-established the host might seem, usually, things don't work out well, so if you don't have your own place with cheap enough power to compete against the majority of the large players which is probably below 5 cents per kWh as of now's standards -- mining is probably not for you.

I see a 100th pro for 1950 and no coupon.

They won't give you a coupon for buying it or they won't let use the previous coupons you got from the $1900 deal.?

The difficulty is still pretty much the same 113.65 last night vs 113.66 today.

The last time we had >10% increase was back on 2021-05-13, we had a  21.53% jump which was followed by 4 consecutive drops

-15.97 %
-5.30%
-27.94%
-4.81%

So maybe this time we see something similar? 21% gave us 4 drops, so 13% gives us 2 drops?
1387  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: mining calculation on: October 09, 2022, 08:06:40 PM
Almost all online calculators are somehow accurate, viabtc has a nice little tool https://www.viabtc.com/tools/calculator?symbol=BTC which I prefer to use, the good thing about it is the fact that you can change all variables such as fees, difficulty, and price (most online calculators don't let you do that).

It's important to be able to change those variables, as I type, the difficulty is adjusting in about 14 hours, with at least 13% to the upside, the current difficulty on all those online calculators is 31360548173144 but in 14 hours it will be 35645328467032 which is roughly 13% less profit.
1388  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Electric rates - Fixed versus unlimited on: October 08, 2022, 11:36:14 PM
The $ 119 unlimited plan is monthly and I inquired three times if it's $ 119 if I use 1000kw or 20000kw and they send there's no limit. I'm leaning towards the fixed rate plan for 3 years as I don't see how they can deliver unlimited electricity for that rate. If so, I'll leave the heat on with the windows open this winter....... I'll update what I find in the fine print once it arrives.

Unless they hacked their way into some aliens' pwer station. Cheesy

The question you need to ask would be, what is the wire/breaker they are going to feed into your place? a 10 amp set up? then ya maybe, you will be capped by the main breaker at 2.2kwh which is a max of 1,584kwh a month, which is $102.96 at 0.065$ per KwH, so ya a good deal for them, 20 amp? a good deal for you, of course,  all of that only holds true after having read the contract.

Also, this contract might be for home use only, hardly good for 2-3 miners, the numbers don't line up here, "the devil's in the detail".
1389  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: تهكير بينانس on: October 08, 2022, 10:46:22 PM

1390  Bitcoin / Mining / The effect of the new U.S sanctions against China on ASIC MINERS. on: October 08, 2022, 09:57:55 PM
Just saw a report on Aljazeera which reads:

Quote
The Biden administration on Friday published a sweeping set of export controls, including a measure to cut China off from certain semiconductor chips made anywhere in the world with US tools, vastly expanding its reach in its bid to slow Beijing’s technological and military advances.

https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2022/10/7/us-aims-to-hobble-chinas-chip-industry-with-sweeping-new-rules

I have not read the exact report coming from the U.S but my understanding is that the new sanctions are somehow pretty general and could affect every company in China, the same article also says

Quote
The Semiconductor Industry Association, which represents chipmakers, said it was studying the regulations and urged the US to “implement the rules in a targeted way – and in collaboration with international partners – to help level the playing field”.

We also know Taiwan will be the first country to take those sanctions seriously, but whether or not ASIC miners makers are going to be affected by these sanctions or not, It might be just a matter of time before a new set of sanctions hit them directly, do you think it's possible that we wake up one day 'soon' and see Bitmain, Canaan and MicroBT run out of chips and thus run out of miners?
1391  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: October 08, 2022, 08:47:38 PM
1900 with a 30% coupon and  wait for it:
sold out
the bitmain sold out in 3 days it actually was a good deal. it should ship in 7-17 days.

The $1900 S19 pro deal is back in stock if you or anyone else is interested.

Meanwhile, difficulty looks even worse than it did a few days back

You've never heard of HM Tech LLC?  Huh

I did, i even listed them as a trusted repair site in the pinned topic, not sure how I missed it, maybe it was not there when I checked! But still it does not take away from the fact that the website looks scammy to me.

when I disconnect the fans of the control board, it does allow me access to the miner.
But when I connect the fans, I can no longer enter and socket connect failed appears.

The error of socket connet fail is usually due to wrong entreis like pool URL, worker or password, what do you mean by "enter", do you mean the miner gets no IP? Or does it tell you the login rejected? Post some pictures.
1395  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: October 06, 2022, 12:09:47 AM
This 10% is one of them, I know we could blame it on people restarting gear (it's the beginning of October so a highly convenient date), Bitmain&co delivering, but still that much power back online just like that in a matter of days?

Collective efforts my friend, while 10% might seem big, it was due, doesn't really matter if 1 million gear come online in 10 days or 20 days, not much of a difference, we just know they are coming, of course, the 12% for this epoch will most likely reflect in the next epoch, i.e, we won't have another huge jump, so let's just get used to an average loss of 5-10% a month for at least a few months to come.

Meanwhile, Russia is supplying Kazakh miners with cheap power , so let's not be surprised by future jumps now that we have both the Americans and the Russians mining BTC like there is no tomorrow. Cheesy

Phill: those Avalons are pretty bad quality, the Chinese resellers sell them for nearly half the price listed on the website, I saw a post for used ones at 12$ per th for the A1266 model, it doesn't seem like there is enough people wanting to buy those, it's probably because of both efficiency and quality.
1396  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Intel ASIC / Bitmain 19s Pro on: October 05, 2022, 03:32:58 AM
I am of the opinion ( and dreams ) that Bitcoin will eventually rebound when the recession is over ( Couple of years ). I have lost all faith in our fiat system. Left unmolested by the central bankers and decrepit governments, Bitcoin makes sense with the limited supply and decentralization.
The general consensus here seems to be that Bitcoin will drop to next to nothing.

The general consensus where? in this form and almost all other bitcoin-related places, the consensus is the exact opposite, the general narrative, however, has always suggested that BTC was going to zero, at least for the past decade, if you count how many times each group was right vs the other, the answer is rather simple.

Now if you really believe BTC will increase in value, buying BTC directly beats mining (more often than not), but there are many factors involved, I'd just start and finish by saying if your power rate is anywhere above 6 cents -- mining is probably not for you.
1397  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: "Yelp" for Bitcoin miner hosting businesses on: October 05, 2022, 01:49:32 AM
Nice job.

You should add a feature to let the mining host rep respond to each review, so they have a chance to address any problems with the service.

I honestly think his website is scammy at best, NONE of the hosts he lists are known, and their names are pretty strange, furthermore, all of the reviews on various services are 5 starts lol, some of them claim to have 1mw worth of power which can hardly host anything, while others claim to have close to 100MW which isn't easy to hide and should appear on a dozen search results but they are nowhere to be found!

What's even worse is that some of the companies claim to be founded in 2011. Cheesy
1398  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Russia to Supply Electricity to Kazakhstan’s Cryptocurrency Miners on: October 05, 2022, 01:28:41 AM
Bad news on top of bad news, the difficulty is going to have an 11% jump even before this thing comes to reality, so now we have to deal with the U.S large players who have an "unlimited" supply of money and the Kazakh's miners who will have dirty cheap power, all of this in the middle of a brutal bear market.

The main down side is that it of course gives Russia a non-scantionable source of income

How is that a downside?
1399  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: October 04, 2022, 08:00:02 PM
As for them coming to a decision on doing reasonable things, yeah that will work as much as OPEC is working right now.

Honestly speaking, OPEC on its own wasn't doing great, but OPEC+ is doing just fine, see the thing is, you can't control something when you don't have all of it, or at least the majority of it, so ya, a few large miners alone won't be able to do it, but say 70% of them decide to stop adding hashrate, it will certainly work in their favor, call me crazy, but I suspect that pretty soon when all the med/small players are out of business, this whole mining industry will become something like Oil and Gas, maybe OBM (The Organization of Bitcoin Miners)

1400  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 03, 2022, 01:36:53 AM

LOL, every weekend's conversation with my wife, but it seems like I am not alone in this  Cheesy, this current difficulty epoch is having a pace of 111% so far, which means, roughly 20,000 of the newest gears were added just in the past 7 days.

Now as far as BTC price goes, the stock market had a terrible close below the low of June, so this week is likely going to be bloody red for all markets, possibly a drop to 17.5k support in 1-2 weeks, stay strong. Grin
