1541  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Central Bank of Russia to Accept Legalization of Cryptocurrency Mining !!! on: July 04, 2022, 10:30:50 PM

* This is not a comment against the Russian power grid, but grids in general most of the world is using components from all over the world to make their grid work. Be it transformers / generators / controllers / etc. No one country manufacturers it all.

I don't think that would be an issue, maintaining and even expanding electricity in its basic form is pretty simple, if we were talking about cutting edge where you want efficiency to be 99.9% instead of say 95% then ya, you would need other countries' know-how and technology, but burning coal, gas or diesel to generate power can be done easily, I live in a 3rd world country and we managed to do that for years during sanctions and even civil war, so I highly doubt a country like Russia will have a problem in that field.

However, there is a bigger problem, Russia is a corrupt country ruled by a single man, the constitution and laws are hardly enforced, and the government can just claim that you sold your BTC to Ukrainians and treat you as a traitor and hang you in one of the public parks, or they can nationalize your company/mining farm without any compensations, so even those Russian investors who can afford to build huge farms will likely not take the risk, I imagine only someone who is has a high army rank or close to Putin's circle would mine there safely.

1542  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Asic miners advice on: July 04, 2022, 09:35:57 PM
LTC is a dead fork, it failed to make a new ATH in the last bull run, and chances are, it will continue to perform very poor for the rest of it's remaining lifespan, besides, difficulty of those small-cap coins can double in 1 week where in BTC you can be almost certain that difficulty won't double in a year, I would say mine only BTC.

But paying the money now and having to wait till next year is stupid IMO, just get yourself some S19 pro which are not very different from the XP version and you can get them at spot.
1543  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Current Cost of s9 and best place to buy on: July 04, 2022, 08:55:44 AM
Phill i remember you got lucky with your S9k, but really a sample size of one or even ten miners can be far from accurate, the s9ks are terrible which is why they sell them for a lot cheaper.

They were made in the same period of the 17 series, most of those batches had soldering issues except for some batches which were mainly made in Malaysia, since its hard to know what batch you are expecting most people that bought s9ks are not buying them again so the sellers had to drop the price.
1544  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Current Cost of s9 and best place to buy on: July 03, 2022, 10:36:24 PM

I can't vouch nor claim AKMINER is a scam, but asicminervalue.com isn't reliable when it comes to finding trusted vendors, with that said, S9k is NOT S9, not S9j, and not S9i, S9k unlike the other three models mentioned is a piece of junk and it's always cheaper to buy, $85 for an S9k sounds about right, you can easily find them at that price, but should anyone buy them? my answer is NO.

Anyway, if someone is looking for a large quantity (100 or more) I can help source them in China, I am not interested in doing so with smaller quantities tho.

Also keep in mind that there is a HUGE difference between buying farm stock as is and buying tested and cleaned miners, given how cheap S9s is, the difference in price between both can be up to 20-30%, and buying farm stock comes with increased risk, but it's cheaper because nobody has to do any work, miners are ready inside the box sitting on the floor or a pallet, they call the shipping company to come to pick it up and that's all about it.

Buying tested and cleaned miners means the sellers will need to acquire more miners than you need to replace dead hashboards, control boards, fans, and whatnot, they will also have to clean them (used miners in China are dirty as hell), test every individual miner for some time, take a video of SN and hashrate on the status page, all that comes at added cost, while you might think testing and cleaning is pretty easy costs nothing, it costs ALOT, especially that the seller would expect high failure rate from the farm stock, so if you order 100 miners, they might need to buy 120 in order to send you a 100 working miners, and we as buyers will have to pay the price for that, plus, the manpower and transportation involved.

I took a few risks of buying untested miners for cheap, overall it was a loss, I would do that if I were in China, but paying for shipping and wasting weeks waiting for miners to arrive, can't be undone, some sellers will offer a replacement, but then sending the gear back to China will cost you more than what you paid in many cases, so personally, I rather pay more to get cleaned and tested miners.

In fact, one of the sellers I know offered me replacements without me having to send the miners back, he took my words for it, I would just tell him 10 gears were broken and he would send 10 for free, but I had to pay for shipping, and wait for weeks to get the replacement, and then even the 10 he sends will still have some failure rate, i tried that a few times and reached to a conclusion that buying farm stock directly when you are not located pretty close to that farm is risky, not worth the money you save.

1545  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: want overclocking software for avalon 1246 ( 88 th) on: July 03, 2022, 12:46:02 AM
Hello

kindly need members help to get overclocking software for avalon 1246 ( 88 th)

appreciated

As far as I know, there is NONE, anyone who approaches you with such software is probably trying to scam you or they will inject your miner with some sort of a virus and steal your hashrate, be very careful.

Besides, the Avalon 1246 hardly runs stable at its stock hashrate, even if there was a solid firmware that overclocks it, you shouldn't be risking it.

48c with what humidity? 70%?
that is a brutal climate.

Where I live (pretty close to the sea) it's somewhat slightly humid, but where I mine it's pretty dry in the summer, average humidity is below 15%, so I don't have to worry much about humidity, my only real problem is when there is a counter hot wind coming from the south, it pushes against the exhaust fans and slows down the movement of hot air, the good thing is that these kinds of winds don't come too often and don't last for too long when they come.

Btw 35°-36° for three days

How cute  Cheesy, I only see these temps late at night, the past week has been 35-48c, good that you got a stronger fan, it's all about moving enough air, S9s and whatsminer are pretty fine even with temps as high as 48c, Avalons are shit, I got 40 Avalons that can't mine anywhere near stable when temps go above 30c, I am glad I didn't buy more.

As people have mentioned earlier, farms that had future orders in before the price crash are probably still installing that hardware when it shows up.

That's true, if not for all the other miners shutting down, we would still see +2-3% every epoch, but it seems like we might stay flat, some leave, some join so they compensate and leave us at a flat rate, also, many miners are probably mining at almost no profit or even at a loss just because they are stuck in a power contract and they must burn that power regardless, those contracts take time to finish only then they will need to re-consider their status, this is a game of patience, those who have what it takes to stay around will benefit from others leaving.
1550  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The risk of NOT actually owning your mining hardware. on: July 01, 2022, 10:57:42 PM
Something interesting in that scan, one of their facilities has failed to make any payments after February 1st. That's
- before the invasion of Ukraine and sanctions hitting
- the price was averaging 40k with 26T difficulty, so at least twice the revenue

If they've started losing money and were unable to pay in those conditions, what were they thinking in the first place?

I saw a tweet (which was deleted later on ) by the company that compass owns the power bills to, long story short, Compass had a floating power rate with the supplier but they gave fixed rates to miners, they did not see the huge price increase of energy coming, I think their contract with the clients was in the 5 cents range, and recently the supplier charged them more like 10 cents per kWh, so they were paying more than they could afford, they have also spent a huge chunk of money which they received from clients on building a new facility rather than paying the power bills.

I don't think they planned to exit scam from the get-go, they just got greedy and took a very risky gamble which backfired on them, in their first failure they blamed the sanctions on Russia, now, all this mess is happening on the other side of the planet and war is a few thousand miles apart, just goes out to show how mining is bloody risky, and then you see someone brag about how a 2 year ROI on some gear is perfect and it's like no other business on planet earth, just spend 15k on a gear ran by a reckless host like Compass-mining and you will become rich in no time.

1553  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Overview BTC Solo pools on: June 29, 2022, 05:17:12 PM
No. miners submit their every share submission don't include the pool's bitcoin address, and these submit are just communication between miners and the pool.

I think that is incorrect, if that was the case, i could just mine to a pool, submit shares, get paid, but once i find a block i just put my own address as the coinbase address, which of course can not be done.

The nonce you are hashing is done against many things, one of them is the coinbase transaction which must be in the block header, that transaction ensures the payout goes to the pool address, if you change anything in that transaction the hash you sumbit will be invalid to both the pool and the network as a whole.

.
5. If a nonce is found, job_id, ntime, vmask, nonce2, nonce, and user_id are sent back to the pool. Then, the pool re-create block header data, and test it.
6. Then, the pool submit validated block header data with the pool's a bitcoin address to bitcoin core network.

I believe the pool's bitcoin address must be hashed into every share the miner submits, the pool won't add it later, the pool will simply relay the block as is. Correct me if I am wrong.
1556  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: June 25, 2022, 11:11:48 PM
I moved the running board on to the 2nd machine and ran the stock firmware and surprisingly its been running pretty well for the past 4 days and 17hrs.

Like I explained in the first post, you could get lucky, I don't know how many combinations are there "I remember 3 of them for S9k", they could be the same", so every board you mix has a 1/3 chance, so more often than not, it doesn't work, but seems like you are pretty lucky, maybe mine to a solo pool and hit a whole block with that gear? Cheesy

I would also be interested in the new kernel log for the bad machine.

1558  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: June 22, 2022, 12:00:54 AM
This is part of the reason why ruble is rising

Another reason is the conversion of EUR to RUB for the gas sales, gas, and oil prices as you all know went through the roof, but why is this being discussed in the first place? this whole thing seems to be setting up for a long-term semi-cold war, Russia can't attack NATO and NATO can't attack Russia (the blessing or otherwise curse of nukes), the west imposed all sanctions they could afford, and Russia played their gas/oil card, it seems like both are running out of cards.

Eventually, all that will matter would be food and energy, it doesn't matter if your currency is worth 100x the other currency when you can't eat, it seems like the Russians are well prepared for this long-term war, Russia is food and energy independent so even if their economic collapses - they can still eat and have a warm winter, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on where you stand) the other side of the war isn't as independent.

I tend to believe that the west's plan is to provoke Russia and get it out of this current situation which seems to be favoring them, Kaliningrad is the first card they played, and more to come, eventually, they will have to sit down and talk, but as it stands, it doesn't seem like they have anything to offer to the Russians, so the plan is to find something to negotiate for.

In the end, Ukraine will need to sacrifice the Donbass region, Russia won't recover from the sanctions, and will be in deep shit when EU stops buying their gas in a few years, Biden won't run for president, Putin will be great hero to the brainwashed Russians, EU countries will start chasing Ukrainian refugees and sending them back to what's left from Ukraine, the world will move on and forget about Donbass like how they forgot about Crimea, they will forget about all the innocent souls that were killed in Ukraine, just like the hunderds of thousands the Russian killed in Chechnya or the Americans killed in Iraq.

1560  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Red light on s9j on: June 21, 2022, 10:08:09 PM
Ok I’m saying it’s a bad board or a firmware issue, I’m thinking of selling it or sending it to someone to be diagnosed and possibly fixed. Is there anyone that could diagnose these for a reasonable cost?

S9j worth anywhere between 120-140$ nowadays, it's won't make sense to send it for diagnoses as that will cost you anywhere from 50$ to 100$ in most places, with no guarantee that it will work again without having to buy a new control board at least.

But let me tell you something, it's extremely difficult to brick a control board just by using an sdcard, I flashed hundreds of S9s and never managed to brick one, it either works, works halfway or doesn't work at all, if the power didn't cut in the flashing process the control board is probably still ok.

Try a smaller Sdcard and flash the original bitmain firmware, make sure you get the jumpers correct, you might also try a hard reset, power off, keep holding the IP report button, power on while keeping your finger on the IP report button for 10 seconds.

You need to be patient when using Sdcards to flash any miner, I tried a few till I found one that works great, I don't know why but those miners are very picky about what Sdcard they like, also make sure you are copying the files in the main directory of the Sdcard, follow the steps by Bitmain very closely it should work.
