1621  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 266 blocks solved! on: May 18, 2022, 11:31:52 PM

Wed May 18 23:51:16 2022 local0.notice cgminer[31241]: Accepted 6b8ad8e5 Diff 156K/23660 SM 1 pool 0

These are the logs from miner! It says new block detected!!!

This line means a new block was found by the network, so it could be anyone mining to any pool that found this "new" block and your pool is letting you know that a new work for a new block is being generated and that you are up to date.

About this one, not sure if this is what you're looking for or if its still valid, but here you can see diff stratums, there is one for europe users

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Solo.ckpool

Not valid anymore, Cksolo runs on one location now which is the U.S

The Ckpool server is very far from Spain?
He tells me that having the Pool server far away can increase the Ping, is mining from Spain recommended in Ckpool

EU to US is just a short ride, i am sure your ping is below 100ms (you can try it yourself), but I remember CK mentioned in the past that anything below 200ms is somehow fine.
1622  Economy / Speculation / Fiat vs Bitcoin. "bad money drives out good.” on: May 18, 2022, 05:10:42 AM
Have you ever heard the quote "bad money drives out good.”? while this was first mentioned somewhere between 1519 and 1579, Bitcoin is just a living example of how that law is perfectly valid.

So the short explanation of Gresham's law according to Wikipedia is this:

Quote
Under Gresham's Law, "good money" is money that shows little difference between its nominal value (the face value of the coin) and its commodity value (the value of the metal of which it is made, often precious metals, nickel, or copper).

Simply put, people tend to spend the "bad money" first, imagine you have $30,000 in the bank, and 1 bitcoin in your wallet, you go to buy a new car, and the dealer accepts both fiat and bitcoin, you (or at least the majority of people) will rather spend the fiat first, this has led to a very low "fresh" supply of bitcoin which keep shirking with every cycle.

Fun facts, as of today;

Code:
13%    of the supply has not moved for 10+ years
6.6%   of the supply has not moved for 7 to 10 years
3.8%   of the supply has not moved for 5 to 7 years
14.7% of the supply has not moved for3 to 5 years
6.6%   of the supply has not moved for2 to 3 years
20.0    of the supply has not moved for 1 to 2 years

In plain English, 65% of the total supply has not changed hands for at least 1 year, we have never seen this much HODLing throughout bitcoin's history, despite the massive drop in its evaluation against the dollar, HODLers are HODLing stronger than ever.
1623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has no future as a payments network, says FTX chief on: May 18, 2022, 04:12:56 AM
Which parts do you disagree with? what he says is true, it's simple history;

Quote
bad money drives out good
Gresham's law

People think that the transaction fee and the block time are the only reason why isn't bitcoin being used for daily payments like Visa or Cash, but that is not exactly true, even if you had an instant and free transaction, would you rather pay for dinner using bitcoin or using your ever-inflating currency? unless you think Bitcoin will magically cancel every other payment method - then BTC can't be the largest payments network for centuries to come.

It really doesn't matter what Satoshi called it in the white paper, the consensus surrounding BTC is that it's a store of value more than electronic cash, it turns out that people needed a decentralized, autonomous, pseudonymous store of value asset more than a payment system to use for their daily purchase.
1624  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New t17e - not hash on: May 17, 2022, 11:01:33 PM
Hey can u elaborate what I need and what should i do? seems i have simialr problem, i mixed hashbaords together and now they shows 0asics all 3 chains.

tornado_blade's point is valid, but not expressed perfectly, the error in the kernel log could be the result of a mix and match of hash boards, but it's not always the case, especially given that OP mentioned the miner is brand new, so to be an EEPROM issue is just unlikely.

For your case however and since you know your boards are good and this started after mixing them, then you have two options.

1- Get a tool that allows you to change the EEPROM code, like this one > https://www.zeusbtc.com/MinerDetails.asp?ID=236
2- Use custom firmware like Vnish which ignores the EEPROM altogether.

The reason why you can't mix and match these boards is because they come pre-loaded with voltage settings (and maybe a few more things), the official firmware will check to see if they all match, if not, you get into an issue, so using the tool above or anything else that does the same thing, you can just copy the settings from one hash board and paste it on all other hash boards, that way the official firmware will think they are the same and will work just fine.

The "cheaper" method (but you have to pay firmware fees) is to use custom firmware like Vnish which ignores all that and lets you mix and match hash boards, which option is better? I don't know,  it's 2-3% of your revenue is $200 paid once.

1625  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Immersed T17 has high chip temperature on: May 17, 2022, 10:08:25 PM
I'll try out different firmware and see what happens.

Try Awseomeminer firmware it's vnish firmware with added features, using their version you get to use their monitoring software for free, which I think is very useful for your set up.

What I would do is set a high profile, something 20% below the PSU's limit, and then use the monitoring software to play with the mining profile based on the temps, here an example.

If max chip temp is < 85 ( keep 52th profile)
if max chip is > 85 , ( change to 50th profile)
if current profile is 50th and chip temp is >85 - (change to 48th profile)
if mining uptime is > 2 hours and temp is below 75c and profile is 48th (change to 50th)

These are some of the many things you can do with Awseomeminer firmware, you get also get it to send you emails or telegram notifications for when something happens, the initial tuning for each profile can take a while, but when it's done once, it's done for good and switching from one profile to another will take only a few seconds, this way you can run your miner at lower hashrate during noon when it's hot, and higher when it temps cool off a bit at night.

1626  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Apminer tool on: May 17, 2022, 02:32:06 AM
It's just an alternative to BTC tool, it's a very basic tool that does the job for those who can't afford something like Awesomeminer, you are probably using Bitmain's firmware so why worry about getting hacked using their tool? I had no problem using those tools back in the day before buying proper monitoring software.

Keep in mind that most antivirus programs will flag tools like this, most of the time those are false positives that you can ignore.
1627  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Immersed T17 has high chip temperature on: May 17, 2022, 01:50:43 AM
I don't understand how a 1.4kw S9 is 65C and a 500W increase in a T17 shoots chip temperature to almost 90C!

It's not just the extra 500w, the number of chips on both gears are different, the chips themselves are different, and the way they attach the heatsinks on each of these models is totally different, you can only make this comparison between two S9s running at different hashrate.

But to be honest with you, I think there is something wrong with your setup, I mean even the 68C on S9 seems too high for immersion cooling, maybe it's the 30c temp outside that is causing this, you are going to need a bigger radiator and a larger pump.

Also, keep in mind that the T17 runs a bit hot by default, also the heatsinks are "loosely" attached and depending on what type of liquid you are using, the heatsinks might just come off at any second, with that in mind, 90C isn't the end of the world, your board temps show 51c, the max is  75c, this gear will die soon anyway, so I wouldn't even bother, just mine on.
1628  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 266 blocks solved! on: May 17, 2022, 12:58:55 AM
Hi all, tell me please if there is a difference how to mine on this pool. Whether to split the power into several workers or just one worker with all the power?

It has NO effect on your chances of finding a block, if you use a good monitoring software with tons of automation features, then monitoring your hashrate on the pool isn't needed, if not -- then it makes sense to use a different worker for every miner, in that case, you can check the pool status to see if worker #2 for an example isn't hashing at full speed or not hashing at all.
1629  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: May 17, 2022, 12:30:39 AM
any real suicide evidence?

Not sure if anyone can come up with any solid evidence, but taking a somehow an educated guess, I believe there must be serval of them, and here is my reasoning; the Anchor Protocol was paying "20% APY", more than 70% of the UST supply was in Anchor, the 20% APY was so tempting that people were almost selling their organs to put money into, I personally know a few folks who went all-in into that shit, I am pretty sure there were people who borrowed money against their houses to get that massive stable APY from Anchor, only to realize later on that if "it's too good to be true", you all know the rest.

While this is an altcoin kind of stuff, but it does affect BTC regardless of how anyone thinks, BTC as it stands right now is a high-risk speculative asset, the average joe and his grandmother don't really know the technical differences between a solid ecosystem like BTC and a shitcoin like Luna, and thus "confidence" is gone, and it will take time to recover what has been broken.

Meanwhile, and back on topic, the pace seems to be picking up, looks like we can still have a positive change despite the price.

1630  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: May 16, 2022, 12:25:13 AM
back to 31.2k from 25.3k
maybe it goes to 41k by fri the 20th

back to 30k as I type, but I agree, I think a correction of some type is about to happen, maybe sub 40k is possible before one last leg down and then a few months of side ways between 20k to 30k seems very reasonable at least based on previous cycles, no new ATH for at least a year from now.

Too complicated for me to understand, U.S style of capitalism shit is just so complicated, so much money is created out of thin air, inflates everything around it, and a few people get to convert that shit into real-world assets, creating massive inflation, then sell the top to the med class and poor people, reck the market, buy cheap, rinse and repeat.

Eventually, those large crops might get to the point where they have to declare bankruptcy, while they might still function as per your explanation, good luck finding anyone to invest their money with large mining crops.
1631  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: May 14, 2022, 11:29:44 PM
So as miner prices go down, they will buy even more and build more warehouses, which will put a damper on the price declines. I won't be surprised if new S19 95T units cost $5000 each if BTC is worth $15k. I think this time will be different from the past, where miner prices did react to profitability.

Don't they have to default at some point? I mean the term "unlimited money" is just an exaggeration.

Someone on telegram was talking about this the other day and he said most of those folks take loans to buy new gears and the collateral is the previous gears they have, if that is correct, then the more prices drop the more money they have to add to the collateral which creates even more pressure.

Does anyone here know how those large corps actually get all that money?

1632  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: May 13, 2022, 01:36:56 PM
Meanwhile, resellers still ask for $8,500 used no warranty s19 (110th version).
And somewhere somebody probably buys!

I can get you a brand new one for less than that,  Cheesy gear prices started to "slowly" react to the profitability drop, I think S19 will sell for below 5k in the not-so-distant future.

I want more price drops, and I want more cheap miners, I also want all those large corps who paid 10k or more per gear to suffer and stop gambling with investors' money.
1633  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20S reliability on: May 13, 2022, 05:28:53 AM
Is this a good choice if I can buy them for $3400-3500 each? I've heard that Whatsminer is generally a reliable brand.

Way overpriced, ROI is over a year at this rate, I wouldn't buy it for that price, not a chance in heaven.

My whatsminers are pretty much dead.

2x 20s
1x 21s
1x 10

That's weird, based on my own experience it's just the opposite, you had luck with the 17 series of Bitmain when the majority of people I know didn't, strange, by the way, did you place those miners close to one another? here is one thing most people don't know about whatsminer, the miner case itself acts as a heatsink, if you touch any other brand from the outside, it will be cold, whatminer will be very hot to touch which is how it was designed, based on that, they need to be spaced well.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good supplier for the KZ14038B012U fans?

The part number is a bit confusing. All the 20 series share the same fan size, but they differ in the connector, what is yours? is it
4 or 6 pins? flat or square? the last piece of info is all that matters, if your PSU wasn't changed before, then you likely have a 6pin flat connector.

The good ones are pretty expensive and hard to find, let me know how many you need and the connector type, also a delivery address and I will get you a quote.
1634  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: solo block again? on: May 13, 2022, 04:27:05 AM
I think you are talking about Cksolo pool right? if so, then No, the last block that was found by cksolo was block # 733,739.

The block you mentioned was found by "unknown" and that isn't cksolo for sure, here is a list that gets instantly updated when ckpool hits a block https://btc.com/stats/pool/Solo%20CK

You can use the same website to track other pools/blocks.

1635  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: mining with CryptoTab vs USB miner vs old Antminer S1 on: May 13, 2022, 03:47:31 AM
I pay about 9 cent KW/hr, not sure about capacity... I have room left in my circuit breaker if thats what you mean. How do I find out about capacity?
I'm not looking for a big miner, as I understand they are usually very loud. My wife, doesn't want to deal with something that sounds like a shop vac constantly going off in the garage, especially as we have an 18 month old that takes naps during the day still.

9 cents/kWh is a bit on the high side for any large asic miner and given your wife, it makes things even worse, but as far as the little baby is concerned I believe they will sleep better with the noise of the asic miner, babies love white noise.  Cheesy

Quote
Do you have an idea how many I can expect to mine on a monthly basis with one?

if you get Apollo with 3th you would expect to make about $12 or  0.00038 BTC per month (before the power bill).

You can use this simple calculator to calculate different hashrate, but keep in mind that these numbers do change depending on the difficulty and price of bitcoin.
1636  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Price drops and the machine prices on: May 11, 2022, 03:58:40 AM
Probably political safety.

Not if you are not a U.S citizen, because well, the U.S might just decide to impose some sanctions on a whole country for whatever reason, they could seize your miner or do anything they want, this, of course, applies to every other country, so long story short, do not mine outside of your home country, it does not matter how crypto-friendly that country is.

Not your country, not your farm. Not your farm, not your gears. Not your gears, not your BTC. Not your BTC, ok that's enough Cheesy.
1637  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: mining with CryptoTab vs USB miner vs old Antminer S1 on: May 11, 2022, 03:05:11 AM
I am looking to upgrade to something a little more powerful (not quite ready to dive into a $6,000 miner yet). And found a GekkoScience Compac F that says it mines at 200GH, and an old Antminer S1 that says it can mine at 180GH.

Without a doubt, USB sticks will beat the antminer S1, those are way too large, and consume a lot more power, there are a few light USB sticks options available, check the hardware section of this board.

Quote
I am using a mining calculator: cryptocompare.com and it is telling me that these two miners, that have significantly higher hash rate than what CryptoTab offers, will mine only about the same amount, or less. How can that be?

Cryptotab and all the other online mining stuff is just B.S, if you don't a own a mining hardware, you will either waste your time for nothing or very, very little.

Quote
I'm not overly concerned about profitability at this point, as I believe any BTC I can mine right now, will be worth significantly more in the future. But, I do want to be able to mine a bit more than 5,000 sats a month...

If are 100% certain BTC will go up in value, then just buy the coin itself, makes more sense no? with that said when making a mining investment, the question you should ask yourself is this

Quote
After paying the power bill, and accounting for at least 10% difficulty increase from here on, as well as the lifespan of this gear I want to buy, will I make more BTC than I could buy for cash right here right now? if the answer is yes, get yourself a miner.

What's your power rate? and how much capacity of power do you have? you might jump straight into the terehash tier, that makes a lot more sats than gigahashes hardware.

3.1 difficulty, it's amazing how we managed to hit 50% increase in exactly one year, I wonder what were we speculating to happen back then, it's going to take some digging into the 2021 diff thread to see if anyone has predicated anything close to this.

the funny part is that if we use July instead of May, we are up more than 100%, who would have thought? and now looking at how things could play out a year from now, one should expect anything and everything.
1639  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What is your solution to measuring and reporting power usage? on: May 11, 2022, 12:00:50 AM
This looks like good software, why would you suggest this over minerstat or hiveos?
Do miners report power usage? I don't see anything reporting power in my miners dashboard.
Would the miners reported power usage differ from actual usage from the wall?

Awesome Miner is the best monitoring software out there in my opinion as well.

The power reading is pretty accurate, it's not 100% accurate compared to the reading on the wire itself, but it's pretty close when I checked it, unless you have perform precise measurements whereby a -+1 to 5% can send you to jail, you can really count on the software readings.

The meter wndsnb posted looks pretty decent, if you want to measure more amps you can always buy some external current transformers they are pretty cheap.
1640  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: long time GPU miner new time BTC ASIC miner - most popular pool on: May 10, 2022, 09:48:39 PM
Actually, I never heard of this website before.
The miningpoolstat is sorted with hashrate which is why this foundrydigital site takes the first position.

I suggest better don't mine on that pool try viabtc.com or slush pool. Or another pool listed on miningpoolstats. I won't take any risk mining on a not well-known pool and possible manipulated hashrate.

Really, you have not heard about "Foundry "before? they have been the largest mining pool for many months, there is no manipulated hashrate here, they found the most blocks and thus they are the largest pool, however, their pool unlike most others isn't public, it's only for large miners, I think the minimum they require is 50ph or so.

OP, you need to first decide whether you want PPS or PPLNS payments, after that, picking the right pool isn't difficult at all.
