2261  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Colorado & Wyoming Front Range(Boulder, Fort Collins, Greeley, Denver, Cheyenne) on: February 08, 2013, 02:01:38 PM
Anyone out there using bitcoin?  Or wanting to learn about it?  I'm in Fort Collins and want to build a local, closed-loop bitcoin economy.  It'd be fun to meet up with any other users around here.

I know I've seen others, just no way to look them up.

2262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Rescanning with Mac/Terminal on: February 08, 2013, 01:03:11 PM
Does anyone know the syntax for the command to rescan the block chain using OSX?  I know its something along the lines of:

open -a bitcoin-qt -rescan

but everytime I try to execute it like above I get this long menu of options.

I'm not a Mac user, but it appears you would, from the command window, go to the data directory:
 - http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory#Mac

Code:
$ cd ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/
$ ./bitcoin-qt -rescan

2263  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: Mobile Recharges in India with bitcoins on: February 08, 2013, 12:53:55 PM
This website has logo of airtel as a telecom partner.Its says working in 112 countries.  Cool

http://bitcoinwireless.com/

And I've no idea how they are coming up with their BTC/USD exchange rate but the rate quoted at this very moment ($22.6244) is higher than the current rate at Mt. Gox, ($22.42), so that reflects a nearly 1% discount when paying with bitcoin, presumably.

I suppose what will matter is what USD/INR rate they use.  If it is along the same lines as the USD/INR forex cross rate, then bitcoins can be the cheapest way to "recharge" a mobile.

What will be great to see is people start offering to buy bitcoins sent as remittances alongside a mobile recharge business.  So the trader buys bitcoins from the remittance recipient, at a discount of perhaps five or ten percent and then spends those for customers through BitcoinWireless.com based on the current market rate.  As long as there is an easy way to immediately convert the bitcoins to INRs (which is what this BitcoinWireless is enabling), then such exchangers can operate without having to take on the risk of holding BTCs.
2264  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [Beta Testing] BitcoinWireless.com-Buy wireless time from over 300 carriers on: February 08, 2013, 12:05:39 PM
When is it launching?

It has been "soft launched" (meaning they don't have all the countries they plan to work in onboard yet, and there still are a few kinks being ironed out, but it is live and the general public is invited to give it a spin.):

2265  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: MtGox Mobile Android Client Error "Method is disabled" on: February 08, 2013, 11:24:28 AM
I have bothered them some more and they do plan to release a new version but don't know yet when it will be ready.

Another method is to use EasyWallet.org from a mobile.  I think it knows if you are accessing from a mobile and get different results when from a desktop browser versus a mobile browser.  The URL for one-step scan (which they call "instapay") is:

 - https://easywallet.org/instapay/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX   <--- where that XXXXX would be your EasyWallet identifier.
e.g., https://easywallet.org/instapay/DYxmTzfY1GSnCdbpVZZ5Qa   <--- Don't redeem to this EasyWallet as it now has been exposed to the public

I'm from Denmark and have a Danish mastercard so wich payment method should i use?

If you have a bank account:

Domestic DKK bank transfers (premium paid over Mt. Gox market price, but you wouldn't be paying any wire fees -- so if buying just a small amount, this might work well for you).
 - https://bitcoinnordic.com/bank-transfer/

With a bank account and a larger purchase, SEPA transfers through BitSTAMP might be your best method.

With a credit card you can purchase Second Life Lindens (SLLs) through VirWoX.  Then you can trade those SLLs for BTCs on their SLL/BTC exchange:
 - http://www.VirWoX.com

With a credit card you can add funds (through LiqPay) at Bitcoin-24.

There might be other methods that work for you :

2267  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: import private keys of wallet.aes.json to bitcoin-qt on: February 06, 2013, 02:02:30 PM
I don't have the list of private keys, just the wallet.aes.json (and obviously the password to access it).

Oh, sorry, I thought you had already decrypted the list.

I've not used this but I believe this is what you need:

Anything as user friendly as the GLBSE out there? or on its way?

Depending on what you are looking to trade on MPEx, CoinBr might provide it:

2269  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: import private keys of wallet.aes.json to bitcoin-qt on: February 06, 2013, 10:48:38 AM
I only find instructions about importing the JSON wallet to Multibit, I can't find nothing about importing it to the standard Bitcoin client.

Anyone knows how to do it?

If you have a list of private keys, you can import them using the debug window with the command importprivkey.

2270  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buy 3 BTC on: February 06, 2013, 10:26:34 AM
So I want to buy 3 BTC via PayPal....

About the only method to use PayPal for purchasing bitcoins is through VirWoX.  There you use PayPal to purchase Second Life Lindens (SLLs).  Then from there you can trade them for Bitcoins on their SLL/BTC exchange.

2271  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Icbit.se, the bucket shop. on: February 06, 2013, 10:04:14 AM
does anyone know why my trades shown on the picture below have negative profit? I bought 2 contracts at 20.00$ and 20.05$, then sold at 20.5301 and logs show that I lost...

2013-02-02 Buy $20.00
2013-02-02 Buy $20.05

Then later that day after you bought, clearing was $20.7095, so on the two positions you were paid variation margin due to the clearing price of $20.7095.  Then on 2013-02-03 the clearing was $21.0750 and you earned even more.

Then each day the clearing price was lower so your variation margin was negative.  Then you sold at $20.5301 which was lesss than the most recent  previous clearing price -- $20.8101.    The very last transaction in the log is the 0.5% trading fee.

So your trade resulted in half a percent trading fee when you bought (the two 0.005 BTC trading fee) plus the half a percent trading fee when you sold (the combined 0.01 BTC trading fee entry) and the sum of the margin variances.  Now remember, the variation margin is calculated as:
 VM = -(1/PriceClose - 1/PriceOpen) * S;
which is
  (-(1/PriceClose - 1/PriceOpen) * 10) * N contracts

For instance, the last variation margin had a clearing price of $20.8101 and you sold at $20.5301.  So the variation margin was:
  VM = (-(1/$20.5301 - 1/$20.8101) * 10) * 2 contracts
  VM = (-(0.0487089687 - 0.0480535893) * 10) * 2 contracts
  VM = (-(0.0006553794) * 10) * 2 contracts
  VM = (-0.0065537940) * 2 contracts
  VM = -0.01310758 BTC

(somewhere the calculation must be getting precision issues, as my rounding at 8 decimals is off by a really small amount from the 0.01310526 reported in your pic.)

my account identifyer at Blockchain.info is not being recognized and I took my time to write it

Does your browser history not show the URL?

When you do regain access to the wallet make sure to go into the account details and enter your e-mail address and/or set an alias for the account so that you aren't entirely dependent on knowing the account identifier.
2273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Taking forever to get confirmations on: February 06, 2013, 02:50:32 AM
Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a remedy for this somehow?

Bitcoin wasn't designed to be good at doing transactions the way it is being used for SatoshiDICE wagering (small amounts and/or spending of coins that were only recently received.)

You might want to find an alternative wagering service that doesn't require a new transaction for each wager.  bitZino, who also offers "provably fair" wagering, has a roulette game which accepts 0.01 wagers (or even smaller amounts) and might be a good alternative to a blockchain-based wagering service.
2274  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: February 05, 2013, 11:16:09 PM
I notice in the JSON data for n-transactions there are two missing values:
- http://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions?format=json

Missing are: Aug 25, 2012 and Dec 12, 2012.

Please try version 3.31 (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=piuk.blockchain.android) released today and let me know if the issues are not fixed.

I couldn't install the app on my Nexus7, then I read the description:
Quote
*** Please uninstall the old Blockchain app ***
- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=piuk.blockchain.android

And since the old app no longer appeared in the list of My Apps, I had to use the Apps management from Settings:
 - http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2521768

So just thought I'ld share that.

How about making this for bitcoin?

Related (from another thread):

Looking forward to the LocalBitcoins mobile app.

A few months ago was a StartupBus competition, and one of the contestants was Open Wallet app:

Here's their proof of concept video:

 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoRlyPZ3zJ0

I have no idea what they were going to use to settle payment to the party acting as "ATM".  I wouldn't doubt they had no good solution ... and left it as "and magic happens here", after figuring out that PayPal wouldn't work for this.

If that was the hurdle these entrepreneurs couldn't solve, then had they considered using bitcoin as the settlement currency they might have been able to get funding, develop it and launch.

Well, ... will LocalBitcoins take it further?
2277  Economy / Speculation / Re: A more in-depth BTC/USD analysis... on: February 05, 2013, 12:48:55 AM
Personally, I'm planning to buy a large amount of BTC right away. But I'm actually going to transfer it all to my new MtGox and exchange accounts to sell and hold in the form of fiat,

I'm a little confused why you'ld do that.  Doesn't that cause you to incur exchange fees three times?  Buying, selling and then eventual re-buy?  Why not transfer fiat and just pay exchange fees once?
2278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: .14 BTC transaction fee? on: February 04, 2013, 07:41:09 PM
Is this ammount of a fee normal for this ammount?
l
The trx fee computation considers the age of the coins (if you recently received them, like in the past day) and the size of the transaction ( where many small inputs are worth less to spend than the amount of fees they require when trying to spend.)

One approach might be to send just a lower amount and let the rest "age" for a day or so if that is the cause it will diminish on its own.  The other approach us to import keys to a client that allows yoy to send trxs without paying any fee.  Blockchain.info/wallet being one of those.

Regardless, make sure you back up your wallet.dat.

What's the algorithm the hash uses and how was this determined?

A bitcoin address is a derivative of a hash of a private key.

Quote
A Bitcoin address is a 160-bit hash of the public portion of a public/private ECDSA keypair.
- http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Technical_background_of_Bitcoin_addresses

 - http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Private_key
 - http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Address

A transaction requires cryptographic signature(s) made using the private key(s) of the input addresses:

 - http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction#Principle_example_of_a_Bitcoin_transaction_with_1_input_and_1_output_only

A block includes a reference to a prior block and includes zero or more transactions that have occurred since that prior block:
